Dense 3D representations of the environment have been a long-term goal in the robotics field. While previous Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF) representation have been prevalent for its implicit, coordinate-based model, the recent emergence of 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has demonstrated remarkable potential in its explicit radiance field representation. By leveraging 3D Gaussian primitives for explicit scene representation and enabling differentiable rendering, 3DGS has shown significant advantages over other radiance fields in real-time rendering and photo-realistic performance, which is beneficial for robotic applications. In this survey, we provide a comprehensive understanding of 3DGS in the field of robotics. We divide our discussion of the related works into two main categories: the application of 3DGS and the advancements in 3DGS techniques. In the application section, we explore how 3DGS has been utilized in various robotics tasks from scene understanding and interaction perspectives. The advance of 3DGS section focuses on the improvements of 3DGS own properties in its adaptability and efficiency, aiming to enhance its performance in robotics. We then summarize the most commonly used datasets and evaluation metrics in robotics. Finally, we identify the challenges and limitations of current 3DGS methods and discuss the future development of 3DGS in robotics. SMTC-CL: Continuous Learning via Selective Multi-Task Coordination for Adaptive Signal Classification

Continuously adaptive signal classification in complex electromagnetic environments is a desired property of realistic intelligent systems. However, the limitation of most existing signal processing tasks and methods lies in their assumption of fixed categories and invariant distributions. In contrast, humans naturally acquire knowledge continuously from data streams, enhancing their capabilities through cross-task knowledge integration and learning from the past. Inspired by this, we propose a continuous learning (CL) method based on selective multi-task coordination (SMTC) to deal with ever-changing task categories and distributions in practical electromagnetic environments (denoted as SMTC-CL). Firstly, we propose a signal task distribution comparison (TDC) method that leverages intra-domain density and inter-domain divergence. TDC selectively activates multiple old tasks to collaboration with the current incremental new task. Secondly, we propose the SMTC method. By revisiting potential collaborative tasks from the past using TDC and formulating different selection strategies based on the context, continuous learners can achieve mutual benefits between past and current tasks in SMTC learning. SMTC can partially alleviate catastrophic forgetting and enable continuous learners to adapt to the changing electromagnetic environment. Based on the signal automatic modulation classification (AMC) and real-world specific emitter identification (SEI) datasets, extensive experimental results validate the effectiveness of our proposed method on a variety of CL scenarios, including varying signal task categories, distributions, and their combinations. © 2015 IEEE.

Investment inrail transit systems is widely advocated in large,high-density cities on the basis of its purported role in reducing road congestion,but the impact of rail transit systems on congestion remains a *** paper provides a method for evaluating the impact of rail transit systems on road congestion in terms of transport accessibility,and applies the method to 43 Chinese cities that have opened rail transit *** show that the rail transit systems can reduce road congestion in most cities,but their performance largely depends on the congestion speed and the rail transit network ***,the structural properties analysis of rail transit networks in two typical cities(Dalian and Changchun)indicates that rail transit lines with longer length,smaller detour factor,and larger population coverage rate tend to perform better in congestion *** findings in this paper provide guidance for city authorities regarding current and future investment in rail transit systems.

State-of-Charge Dependent Battery Model Identification Using Gaussian Process Regression

This paper investigates the parameter identification of a state-of-charge dependent equivalent circuit model (ECM) for Lithium-ion batteries. Different from most existing ECM identification methods, we focus on identifying the functional relations between ECM parameters and state-of-charge (SOC). By transforming the ECM into an ARX model, a Gaussian process regression (GPR) approach is proposed, without using parametric functions to describe the SOC dependence of ARX coefficients. The proposed approach derives the posterior distributions of ECM parameters, thus is capable to quantify the estimation uncertainties. Another advantage lies in the flexibility of incorporating the knowledge of batteries into the prior distributions used in GPR, which enhances the estimation performance in the presence of noises. The effectiveness of the proposed GPR approach is illustrated by simulation examples under both low and high noise levels.

Hybrid Data-Free Knowledge Distillation

Data-free knowledge distillation aims to learn a compact student network from a pre-trained large teacher network without using the original training data of the teacher network. Existing collection-based and generation-based methods train student networks by collecting massive real examples and generating synthetic examples, respectively. However, they inevitably become weak in practical scenarios due to the difficulties in gathering or emulating sufficient real-world data. To solve this problem, we propose a novel method called Hybrid Data-Free Distillation (HiDFD), which leverages only a small amount of collected data as well as generates sufficient examples for training student networks. Our HiDFD comprises two primary modules, i.e., the teacher-guided generation and student distillation. The teacher-guided generation module guides a Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) by the teacher network to produce high-quality synthetic examples from very few real-world collected examples. Specifically, we design a feature integration mechanism to prevent the GAN from overfitting and facilitate the reliable representation learning from the teacher network. Meanwhile, we drive a category frequency smoothing technique via the teacher network to balance the generative training of each category. In the student distillation module, we explore a data inflation strategy to properly utilize a blend of real and synthetic data to train the student network via a classifier-sharing-based feature alignment technique. Intensive experiments across multiple benchmarks demonstrate that our HiDFD can achieve state-of-the-art performance using 120 times less collected data than existing methods. Training an accurate classifier for EEG-based brain-computer interface (BCI) requires EEG data from a large number of users, whereas protecting their data privacy is a critical consideration. Federated learning (FL) is a promising solution to this challenge. This paper proposes Federated classification with local Batch-specific batch normalization and Sharpness-aware minimization (FedBS) for privacy protection in EEG-based motor imagery (MI) classification. FedBS utilizes local batch-specific batch normalization to reduce data discrepancies among different clients, and sharpness-aware minimization optimizer in local training to improve model generalization. Experiments on three public MI datasets using three popular deep learning models demonstrated that FedBS outperformed six state-of-the-art FL approaches. Remarkably, it also outperformed centralized training, which does not consider privacy protection at all. In summary, FedBS protects user EEG data privacy, enabling multiple BCI users to participate in large-scale machine learning model training, which in turn improves the BCI decoding accuracy. © 2024, CC BY.

Unsupervised Learning of 3D Scene Flow from Monocular Camera

Scene flow represents the motion of points in the 3D space, which is the counterpart of the optical flow that represents the motion of pixels in the 2D image. However, it is difficult to obtain the ground truth of scene flow in the real scenes, and recent studies are based on synthetic data for training. Therefore, how to train a scene flow network with unsupervised methods based on real-world data shows crucial significance. A novel unsupervised learning method for scene flow is proposed in this paper, which utilizes the images of two consecutive frames taken by monocular camera without the ground truth of scene flow for training. Our method realizes the goal that training scene flow network with real-world data, which bridges the gap between training data and test data and broadens the scope of available data for training. Unsupervised learning of scene flow in this paper mainly consists of two parts: (i) depth estimation and camera pose estimation, and (ii) scene flow estimation based on four different loss functions. Depth estimation and camera pose estimation obtain the depth maps and camera pose between two consecutive frames, which provide further information for the next scene flow estimation. After that, we used depth consistency loss, dynamic-static consistency loss, Chamfer loss, and Laplacian regularization loss to carry out unsupervised training of the scene flow network. To our knowledge, this is the first paper that realizes the unsupervised learning of 3D scene flow from monocular camera. The experiment results on KITTI show that our method for unsupervised learning of scene flow meets great performance compared to traditional methods Iterative Closest Point (ICP) and Fast Global Registration (FGR). This paper examines the event-triggered consensus of the multi-agent system on matrix-weighted networks, where the interdependencies among higher-dimensional states of neighboring agents are characterized by matrix-weighted edges in the network. Specifically, a novel distributed dynamic event-triggered coordination strategy is proposed for this category of generalized networks, in which an auxiliary system is employed for each agent to dynamically adjust the triggering threshold, which plays an essential role in guaranteeing that the triggering time sequence does not exhibit Zeno behavior. Distributed event-triggered control protocols are proposed to guarantee leaderless consensus for multi-agent systems on matrix-weighted networks, respectively. Remarkably, the spectrum of matrix-valued weights is crucial in event-triggered mechanism design for matrix-weighted networks, generalizing those results only applicable for scalar-weighted networks. The proposed approach allows each agent to broadcast and receive information only at its triggering instants. Finally, simulation examples are provided to demonstrate the theoretical results.

Learning Probabilistic Coordinate Fields for Robust Correspondences

We introduce Probabilistic Coordinate Fields (PCFs), a novel geometric-invariant coordinate representation for image correspondence problems. In contrast to standard Cartesian coordinates, PCFs encode coordinates in correspondence-specific barycentric coordinate systems (BCS) with affine invariance. To know when and where to trust the encoded coordinates, we implement PCFs in a probabilistic network termed PCF-Net, which parameterizes the distribution of coordinate fields as Gaussian mixture models. By jointly optimizing coordinate fields and their confidence conditioned on dense flows, PCF-Net can work with various feature descriptors when quantifying the reliability of PCFs by confidence maps. An interesting observation of this work is that the learned confidence map converges to geometrically coherent and semantically consistent regions, which facilitates robust coordinate representation. By delivering the confident coordinates to keypoint/feature descriptors, we show that PCF-Net can be used as a plug-in to existing correspondence-dependent approaches. Extensive experiments on both indoor and outdoor datasets suggest that accurate geometric invariant coordinates help to achieve the state of the art in several correspondence problems, such as sparse feature matching, dense image registration, camera pose estimation, and consistency filtering. Further, the interpretable confidence map predicted by PCF-Net can also be leveraged to other novel applications from texture transfer to multi-homography classification. A2B: Anchor to Barycentric Coordinate for Robust Correspondence

There is a long-standing problem of repeated patterns in correspondence problems, where mismatches frequently occur because of inherent ambiguity. The unique position information associated with repeated patterns makes coordinate representations a useful supplement to appearance representations for improving feature correspondences. However, the issue of appropriate coordinate representation has remained unresolved. In this study, we demonstrate that geometric-invariant coordinate representations, such as barycentric coordinates, can significantly reduce mismatches between features. The first step is to establish a theoretical foundation for geometrically invariant coordinates. We present a seed matching and filtering network (SMFNet) that combines feature matching and consistency filtering with a coarse-to-fine matching strategy in order to acquire reliable sparse correspondences. We then introduce DEGREE, a novel anchor-to-barycentric (A2B) coordinate encoding approach, which generates multiple affine-invariant correspondence coordinates from paired images. DEGREE can be used as a plug-in with standard descriptors, feature matchers, and consistency filters to improve the matching quality. Extensive experiments in synthesized indoor and outdoor datasets demonstrate that DEGREE alleviates the problem of repeated patterns and helps achieve state-of-the-art performance. Furthermore, DEGREE also reports competitive performance in the third image Matching Challenge at CVPR 2021. This approach offers a new perspective to alleviate the problem of repeated patterns and emphasizes the importance of choosing coordinate representations for feature correspondences.
