MBGD-RDA Training and Rule Pruning for Concise TSK Fuzzy Regression Models

To effectively train Takagi-Sugeno-Kang (TSK) fuzzy systems for regression problems, a Mini-Batch Gradient Descent with Regularization, DropRule, and AdaBound (MBGD-RDA) algorithm was recently proposed. It has demonstrated superior performances;however, there are also some limitations, e.g., it does not allow the user to specify the number of rules directly, and only Gaussian MFs can be used. This paper proposes two variants of MBGD-RDA to remedy these limitations, and show that they outperform the original MBGD-RDA and the classical ANFIS algorithms with the same number of rules. Furthermore, we also propose a rule pruning algorithm for TSK fuzzy systems, which can reduce the number of rules without significantly sacrificing the regression performance. Experiments showed that the rules obtained from pruning are generally better than training them from scratch directly, especially when Gaussian MFs are used. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. At present, most high-accuracy single-person pose estimation methods have high computational complexity and insufficient real-time performance due to the complex structure of the network model. However, a single-person pose estimation method with high real-time performance also needs to improve its accuracy due to the simple structure of the network model. It is currently difficult to achieve both high accuracy and real-time performance in single-person pose estimation. For use in human–machine cooperative operations, this paper proposes a single-person upper limb pose estimation method based on an end-to-end approach for accurate and real-time limb pose estimation. Using the stacked hourglass network model, a single-person upper limb skeleton key point detection model was designed. Deconvolution was employed to replace the up-sampling operation of the hourglass module in the original model, solving the problem of rough feature maps. Integral regression was used to calculate the position coordinates of key points of the skeleton, reducing quantization errors and calculations. Experiments showed that the developed single-person upper limb skeleton key point detection model achieves high accuracy and that the pose estimation method based on the end-to-end approach provides high accuracy and real-time performance. To address the weak observability of monocular visual–inertial odometers on ground-based mobile robots, this paper proposes a monocular inertial SLAM algorithm combined with wheel speed anomaly detection. The algorithm uses a wheel speed odometer pre-integration method to add the wheel speed measurement to the least-squares problem in a tightly coupled manner. For abnormal motion situations, such as skidding and abduction, this paper adopts the Mecanum mobile chassis control method, based on torque control. This method use the motion constraint error to estimate the reliability of the wheel speed measurement. At the same time, in order to prevent incorrect chassis speed measurements from negatively influencing robot pose estimation, this paper uses three methods to detect abnormal chassis movement and analyze chassis movement status in real time. When the chassis movement is determined to be abnormal, the wheel odometer pre-integration measurement of the current frame is removed from the state estimation equation, thereby ensuring the accuracy and robustness of the state estimation. Experimental results show that the accuracy and robustness of the method in this paper are better than those of a monocular visual–inertial odometer. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. In this paper, we investigate the problem of coordination between economic dispatch (ED) and demand response (DR) in multi-energy systems (MESs), aiming to improve the economic utility and reduce the waste of energy in MESs. Since multiple energy sources are coupled through energy hubs (EHs), the supply-demand constraints are nonconvex. To deal with this issue, we propose a linearization method to transform the coordination problem to a convex social welfare optimization one. Then a decentralized algorithm based on parallel Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM) and dynamic average tracking protocol is developed, where each agent could only make decisions based on information from their neighbors. Moreover, under the assumption of convexity, we show convergence of the algorithm estimates to the global optimal solution. Finally, a case study on the modified IEEE 14-bus network verifies the feasibility and effectiveness of our algorithm.

Multi-party learning provides solutions for training joint models with decentralized data under legal and practical constraints. However, traditional multi-party learning approaches are confronted with obstacles such as system heterogeneity, statistical heterogeneity, and incentive design. How to deal with these challenges and further improve the efficiency and performance of multi-party learning has become an urgent problem to be solved. In this paper, we propose a novel contrastive multi-party learning framework for knowledge refinement and sharing with an accountable incentive mechanism. Since the existing parameter averaging method is contradictory to the learning paradigm of neural networks, we simulate the process of human cognition and communication, and analogize multiparty learning as a many-to-one knowledge sharing problem. The approach is capable of integrating the acquired explicit knowledge of each client in a transparent manner without privacy disclosure, and it reduces the dependence on data distribution and communication environments. The proposed scheme achieves significant improvement in model performance in a variety of scenarios, as we demonstrated through experiments on several real-world datasets. Pneumatic Muscles (PMs) - driven exoskeleton has a promising prospect in the field of rehabilitation and assistance, because of the PMs intrinsic features of compliance and high force-to-weight ratio. However, the precise control of PMs-driven exoskeleton still remains a challenging problem due to the hysteresis, time-varying parameters of PMs and complexity of the mechanism. To solve this problem, this paper presents a super twisting controller (STC), essentially a second-order sliding mode control, to realize the human gait tracking control of lower limb exoskeleton. As a result, the disturbances and uncertainties of the system can be handled, and the chattering caused by the traditional sliding mode control (SMC) could be eliminated. The stability of the closed-loop system is ensured according to the Lyapunov theorem. In addition, we conduct experiments in real exoskeleton system and the results illustrate the validity of the super twisting algorithm. Decoding brain signals accurately and efficiently is crucial for intra-cortical brain-computer interfaces. Traditional decoding approaches based on neural activity vector features suffer from low accuracy, whereas deep learning based approaches have high computational cost. To improve both the decoding accuracy and efficiency, this paper proposes a spiking neural network (SNN) for effective and energy-efficient intra-cortical brain signal decoding. We also propose a feature fusion approach, which integrates the manually extracted neural activity vector features with those extracted by a deep neural network, to further improve the decoding accuracy. Experiments in decoding motor-related intra-cortical brain signals of two rhesus macaques demonstrated that our SNN model achieved higher accuracy than traditional artificial neural networks;more importantly, it was tens or hundreds of times more efficient. The SNN model is very suitable for high precision and low power applications like intracortical brain-computer interfaces. © 2025, CC BY.

In many real-world machine learning applications, unlabeled data can be easily obtained, but it is very timeconsuming and/or expensive to label them. So, it is desirable to be able to select the optimal samples to label, so that a good machine learning model can be trained from a minimum amount of labeled data. Active learning (AL) has been widely used for this purpose. However, most existing AL approaches are supervised: they train an initial model from a small amount of labeled samples, query new samples based on the model, and then update the model iteratively. Few of them have considered the completely unsupervised AL problem, i.e., starting from zero, how to optimally select the very first few samples to label, without knowing any label information at all. This problem is very challenging, as no label information can be utilized. This paper studies unsupervised pool-based AL for linear regression problems. We propose a novel AL approach that considers simultaneously the informativeness, representativeness, and diversity, three essential criteria in AL. Extensive experiments on 14 datasets from various application domains, using three different linear regression models (ridge regression, LASSO, and linear support vector regression), demonstrated the effectiveness of our proposed approach.
