Geographic routing has been introduced in mobile ad hoc networks and sensor networks. But its per-formance suffers greatly from mobility-induced location errors that can cause Lost Link (LLNK) and LOOP problems. Thus various mobility prediction algorithms have been proposed to mitigate the errors, but sometimes their prediction errors are substantial. A novel mobility prediction technique that incorpo-rates both mobile positioning information and road topology knowledge was presented. Furthermore, the performance of the scheme was evaluated via simulations, along with two other schemes, namely, Linear Velocity Prediction (LVP) and Weighted Velocity Prediction (WVP) for comparison purpose. The results of simulation under Manhattan mobility model show that the proposed scheme could track the movement of a node well and hence provide noticeable improvement over LVP and MVP.

A novel approach of rough-fuzzy hybridization is proposed for efficient personalized Web retrieval. Variable precision rough set model is used to discover user preference. Fuzzy sets are incorporated to take care of the real-valued weights in each document vector. Discerning keywords are identified to refine a query for more focused representation. To further filter out irrelevant documents for the user, retrieved results are re-ranked according to rough similarity measures. Experiments compared with traditional search engine are presented and experimental results indicate the performance of document retrieval is greatly improved.

This paper proposes an enhanced scheduling solution to support different quality of service (QoS) for IEEE 802.16e broadband wireless access network. Based on the existing scheduling algorithm M-LWDF, we do deeper research into how to integrate it into IEEE 802.16e. The proposed scheduling solution combines the keyservice flow parameters defined by IEEE 802.16e standard with M-LWDF scheme. Simulation results show that the delay character is improved for real-time services using the proposed method.

The development of VLSI technology results in the dramatically improvement of the performance of integrated circuits. However, it brings more challenges to the aspect of reliability. Integrated circuits become more susceptible to soft errors. Therefore, it is imperative to study the reliability of circuits under the soft error. This paper implements three probabilistic methods (two pass, error propagation probability, and probabilistic transfer matrix) for estimating gate-level circuit reliability on PC. Improving the admission control process in wireless metropolitan area networks (WMAN) based on the IEEE 802.16e standard can improve the QoS. Because IEEE 802.16e supports five classes of service as well as mobility, an admission control policy for non-preprovisioned service flow is proposed. This policy is compatible with the QoS parameters for each service class defined in the standard. As improvements, the guard channel scheme is used to give handover connections higher priority and a novel proportional bandwidth-borrowing scheme is added to prioritize the different service classes. The simulation results show the proposed admission control policy maximizes the bandwidth utilization and the use of the two schemes provides a reasonable priority order of new originated connections and handover connections of different service classes. Grid scheduling which aims at improving resource utilization and grid application performance is a key concern in grid. Currently, much research can be found about grid scheduling and some algorithms on it were proposed. However, since grid resources are autonomic, distributed and their status change over time, those scheduling algorithms did not fit for the cases well. In this paper, a cache based feedback grid scheduling (CBFS) approach is presented to capture the dynamics and impact of simultaneously co-allocated tasks in a grid. In this approach, grid scheduler utilizes recent resource performance data, such as recent task submitting time and execution time of task which are kept in cache and a feedback approach to engineer load balancing across multiple grid resources. After comparing this dynamic grid scheduling approach with previous research, it is found that CBFS is more generous than other scheduling approaches. Experimental results demonstrate that this approach diminishes latency and contributes to the overall grid load balancing, which significantly improves resource utilization and response time of tasks.
