Human instance matting aims to estimate an alpha matte for each human instance in an image, which is challenging as it easily fails in complex cases requiring disentangling mingled pixels belonging to multiple instances along hairy and thin boundary structures. In this work, we address this by introducing MP-Mat, a novel 3D-and-instance-aware matting framework with multiplane representation, where the multiplane concept is designed from two different perspectives: scene geometry level and instance level. Specifically, we first build feature-level multiplane representations to split the scene into multiple planes based on depth differences. This approach makes the scene representation 3D-aware, and can serve as an effective clue for splitting instances in different 3D positions, thereby improving interpretability and boundary handling ability especially in occlusion areas. Then, we introduce another multiplane representation that splits the scene in an instance-level perspective, and represents each instance with both matte and color. We also treat background as a special instance, which is often overlooked by existing methods. Such an instance-level representation facilitates both foreground and background content awareness, and is useful for other down-stream tasks like image editing. Once built, the representation can be reused to realize controllable instance-level image editing with high efficiency. Extensive experiments validate the clear advantage of MP-Mat in matting task. We also demonstrate its superiority in image editing tasks, an area under-explored by existing matting-focused methods, where our approach under zero-shot inference even outperforms trained specialized image editing techniques by large margins. Network resilience generally refers to the ability of a network to maintain normal operation in the face of various failures and disturbances, which has many applications in social, financial, communication, and transportation systems. There is a large amount of research on designing strategies to disrupt the network from the perspective of attack and to protect the network from the defense standpoint. However, attacks and defenses in the real world often occur simultaneously and repeatedly. The study of network resilience should not be limited to the structural characteristics but should consider the functional characteristics of the network. We develop a general game-theoretic framework to study attack-defense repeated interactions on complex networks and examine the possibility of achieving precise control over the payoffs of attackers and defenders. Our findings reveal that neither the attacker nor the defender can unilaterally control their own payoff, the opponent’s payoff, or any linear combination thereof. This work highlights the limitations of unilateral payoff control in real-world interaction scenarios, a consideration often overlooked in numerous theoretical studies. © 2024 IEEE.

Semi-supervised learning has garnered significant attention, particularly in medical image segmentation, owing to its capacity to leverage a large number of unlabeled data and a limited amount of labeled data to improve performance. However, most existing semi-supervised segmentation methods exhibit shortcomings in supervising unlabeled data, both in the label space due to potential noise in pseudo-labels, and the feature space due to indistinct class boundaries. To address the issues above, we propose Dual-view Label and Feature Supervision Network, termed DLFS-Net, to enhance label and feature supervision for unlabeled data. Our approach is based on a dual-view learning strategy that incorporates two modules: the Confidence Fusion Supervision Module (CFS) and the Dual-view Prototype Learning Module (DPL). Specifically, the CFS module generates weight matrices to integrate complementary information from two model outputs, producing more accurate pseudo-labels in the label space. The DPL module reduces intra-class variations in the feature space from two different views through prototype learning to generate clear class boundaries. Experiments on the LA and Pancreas-CT datasets demonstrate that our framework show solid gains (e.g.,1.76% Dice and 2.37% Jaccard improvement on Pancreas-CT dataset with 20% labeled data) compared with the state-of-the-art methods. © 2024 ACM.

In this paper, a bearing-based containment control problem of multi-agent systems with disturbances is studied. The nonlinearity of the bearing results in the existence of nonlinear time-varying parameters in the closed-loop system. When the leaders are stationary, under the sufficient conditions on the disturbances and the connectivity of the directed sensing graph, the boundedness of the nonlinear time-varying parameters is rigorously proved, with which it is shown that the containment error converges to zero asymptotically. When the leaders are moving, by using the properties of the bearing and the projection, it is proved that the containment error is uniformly ultimately bounded and can be reduced by adjusting the edge weight. Numerical examples illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed controller. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

An improved estimation of distribution algorithm for multi-compartment electric vehicle routing problem

The multi-compartment electric vehicle routing problem(EVRP)with soft time window and multiple charging types(MCEVRP-STW&MCT)is studied,in which electric multi-compartment vehicles that are environmentally friendly but need to be recharged in course of transport process,are employed.A mathematical model for this optimization problem is established with the objective of minimizing the function composed of vehicle cost,distribution cost,time window penalty cost and charging service *** solve the problem,an estimation of the distribution algorithm based on Lévy flight(EDA-LF)is proposed to perform a local search at each iteration to prevent the algorithm from falling into local *** results demonstrate that the EDA-LF algorithm can find better solutions and has stronger robustness than the basic EDA *** addition,when comparing with existing algorithms,the result shows that the EDA-LF can often get better solutions in a relatively short time when solving medium and large-scale *** experiments show that using electric multi-compartment vehicles to deliver incompatible products can produce better results than using traditional fuel vehicles.

In industrial sites, multiple real-time control systems often share computing resources. However, burst computing tasks may lead to the random dropping of control computing subtasks, resulting in control failures and potential hazards. To address this issue, we propose an energy-efficient safety-aware task scheduling scheme based on mixed-integer programming. When burst computing tasks are triggered, this scheduling scheme adaptively releases resources from low-criticality control computing subtasks and adjusts the processor speed based on the dynamic voltage and frequency scaling technology (DVFS), ensuring the timely completion of burst computing tasks and keeping the control system state deviation within a safe threshold. To achieve the scheduling scheme, we propose an efficient algorithm called EESASA. Simulation results show that EESASA can minimize the overall cost of control and processor energy while ensuring the safety of the control system and the timely completion of burst computing tasks. © 2024 IEEE.

Both coordination, a behavioral pattern where individuals adopt the same behavior as the majority, and anticoordination, a behavioral pattern where individuals choose a behavior different from the majority, are prevalent in social and engineering scenarios. Examples include the spread of social norms or innovations for coordination and the division of labor and traffic congestion for anti-coordination. Exploring the large-scale interacting systems driven by coordination and anticoordination is of great significance in understanding, predicting, and optimizing the evolutionary outcomes. While existing studies have primarily focused on analyzing the convergence of networked systems and evaluating the time to reach equilibrium, our investigation delves into all possible states of a networked system and scrutinizes all equilibrium states. Notably, we observe that the number of equilibrium states increases exponentially with the network size. Accounting for network structure properties, homogeneous networks exhibit more equilibrium states than heterogeneous networks. Furthermore, for specific behavioral switching thresholds, the number of equilibrium states is surprisingly higher than at neighboring switching thresholds. Our work reveals the intricate interplay between evolutionary dynamics, system structure, and behavioral switching thresholds. © 2024 Technical Committee on control Theory, Chinese Association of Automation.

State-of-charge (SoC) balancing is crucial for improving the efficiency and lifetime of the battery energy storage system in near-space vehicles. In this paper, the SoC balancing control problem is investigated by a coupling battery model with electric-thermal-aging dynamics. Firstly, a system identification experiment is carried out to obtain the internal parameters of the battery. Secondly, a weight optimization index is designed by integrating the balancing speed and battery state-of-health (SoH). Then, a receding horizon control algorithm is proposed to realize multi-unit battery SoC balancing with partial swarm optimization (PSO). Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed strategy is verified by simulation results. © 2023 Technical Committee on control Theory, Chinese Association of Automation.

Towards Disturbance Rejection in Feature Pyramid Network

The multiscale problem is one of the challenging topics in the object detection field. Among the current studies toward this problem, feature pyramid network (FPN) has been shown a superior performance. The core principle of FPN is a mapping for the detectable objects into hierarchy features. These features are designed with different size of receptive fields, which brings good scale invariance in the classification and localization subtasks. However, a disturbance of information dilution is generated by the assignment for the detectable objects into different features. This dilution disturbance is associated with the convolution or pooling operation during the hierarchy feature extraction process. Both of the imprecise localization information in the top features and the fuzzy classification information in the bottom ones limit the performance of FPN. Aiming at the disturbance rejection problem of information dilution, this article presents a feature compensation method. A cross compensation between the semantic information and the localization information in hierarchy features is used to enhance the vanilla FPN. Then, the evaluation metrics in an object detection task are examined. Not only the overall performance, but also the respective metrics for multiscale objects validate a considerable improvement of the FPN with a disturbance compensation mechanism. The experimental results demonstrate an effectiveness of the proposed method in this article. © 2020 IEEE.
