Influenced by the great success of deep learning in computer vision and language understanding, research in recommendation has shifted to inventing new recommender models based on neural networks. In recent years, we have witnessed significant progress in developing neural recommender models, which generalize and surpass traditional recommender models owing to the strong representation power of neural networks. In this survey paper, we conduct a systematic review on neural recommender models from the perspective of recommendation modeling with the accuracy goal, aiming to summarize this field to facilitate researchers and practitioners working on recommender systems. Specifically, based on the data usage during recommendation modeling, we divide the work into collaborative filtering and information-rich recommendation: 1) collaborative filtering, which leverages the key source of user-item interaction data;2) content enriched recommendation, which additionally utilizes the side information associated with users and items, like user profile and item knowledge graph;and 3) temporal/sequential recommendation, which accounts for the contextual information associated with an interaction, such as time, location, and the past interactions. After reviewing representative work for each type, we finally discuss some promising directions in this field. © 2021, CC BY.

Deep Learning on Monocular Object Pose Detection and Tracking: A Comprehensive Overview

Object pose detection and tracking has recently attracted increasing attention due to its wide applications in many areas, such as autonomous driving, robotics, and augmented reality. Among methods for object pose detection and tracking, deep learning is the most promising one that has shown better performance than others. However, survey study about the latest development of deep learning-based methods is lacking. Therefore, this study presents a comprehensive review of recent progress in object pose detection and tracking that belongs to the deep learning technical route. To achieve a more thorough introduction, the scope of this study is limited to methods taking monocular RGB/RGBD data as input and covering three kinds of major tasks: instance-level monocular object pose detection, category-level monocular object pose detection, and monocular object pose tracking. In our work, metrics, datasets, and methods of both detection and tracking are presented in detail. Comparative results of current state-of-the-art methods on several publicly available datasets are also presented, together with insightful observations and inspiring future research directions. The multiplex network has attracted wide attention because it can better describe the various relationships in the real world, and the duplex network is a special two-layer form of it. The purpose of this research focuses on introducing new entropy-based measures for multiplex network, especially duplex network. The new measure called Interactive entropy in duplex network (IE) is based on information entropy, a key concept of information theory. Feature re-learning with data augmentation for video relevance prediction

Predicting the relevance between two given videos with respect to their visual content is a key component for content-based video recommendation and retrieval. Thanks to the increasing availability of pre-trained image and video convolutional neural network models, deep visual features are widely used for video content representation. However, as how two videos are relevant is task-dependent, such off-the-shelf features are not always optimal for all tasks. Moreover, due to varied concerns including copyright, privacy and security, one might have access to only pre-computed video features rather than original videos. We propose in this paper feature re-learning for improving video relevance prediction, with no need of revisiting the original video content. In particular, re-learning is realized by projecting a given deep feature into a new space by an affine transformation. We optimize the re-learning process by a novel negative-enhanced triplet ranking loss. In order to generate more training data, we propose a new data augmentation strategy which works directly on frame-level and video-level features. Extensive experiments in the context of the Hulu Content-based Video Relevance Prediction Challenge 2018 justify the effectiveness of the proposed method and its state-of-the-art performance for content-based video relevance prediction. Predictive modeling of networked data finds many real-world applications, such as fraud detection in social networks, drug discovery in biomedical networks, paper topic classification in citation networks, and so forth. Although the advanced machine learning approaches can help build reasonably accurate predictive models, their applicability is immensely hindered by the data labeling tasks, which are onerous, time-consuming, and error-prone. In this paper, we propose a novel active learning paradigm for networked data, named topology-and-content-aware (TACA) active learning, aiming to minimize the number of labels while achieving a desirable level of model accuracy. Overall, TACA advances existing works from two aspects: (1) TACA makes no assumption on the network property, whereas most existing works only perform effectively on a locally consistent network in which linked nodes are expected to share the same labels and (2) TACA generates queries without relying on model performance, thereby enjoying robust predictive results even when noises exist in the queried labels. Both theoretical and empirical evidences are presented, substantiating the effectiveness of and optimism our approach.

As a widely used data structure, graphs are good at characterizing data with internal associations, such as social and biological data. Tree structured data are special and are widely used in many real-world applications, such as organizational structure analysis and genealogical knowledge graph reasoning. For example, in kinship knowledge graph analysis, when a genealogical tree is particularly large (more than 25 levels and 45,000 nodes), it is a great challenge to partition this large tree into a specified number of subtrees with succinct logic and a balanced number of nodes. Therefore, in this paper, we propose the TPA (tree partitioning algorithm) algorithm to achieve a balanced and succinct logic partition of large-scale tree structured data. TPA first extracts all related nodes from a massive graph database and then constructs the convergent subgraph into a complete tree with a specified root node. Specifically, several virtual nodes are supplemented for generation-skipping connected nodes to achieve correct node numbering and partitioning. Finally, a graph partitioning algorithm is executed on the complete tree to obtain a specified number of subtrees with succinct logic and balanced node scales. Experiments conducted on four real-world datasets verify the effectiveness of our TPA algorithm.

Collaborative Metric Learning (CML) has recently emerged as a popular method in recommendation systems (RS), closing the gap between metric learning and Collaborative Filtering. Following the convention of RS, existing methods exploit unique user representation in their model design. This paper focuses on a challenging scenario where a user has multiple categories of interests. Under this setting, we argue that the unique user representation might induce preference bias, especially when the item category distribution is imbalanced. To address this issue, we propose a novel method called Diversity-Promoting Collaborative Metric Learning (DPCML), with the hope of considering the commonly ignored minority interest of the user. The key idea behind DPCML is to include a multiple set of representations for each user in the system. Based on this embedding paradigm, user preference toward an item is aggregated from different embeddings by taking the minimum item-user distance among the user embedding set. Furthermore, we observe that the diversity of the embeddings for the same user also plays an essential role in the model. To this end, we propose a Diversity Control Regularization Scheme (DCRS) to accommodate the multi-vector representation strategy better. Theoretically, we show that DPCML could generalize well to unseen test data by tackling the challenge of the annoying operation that comes from the minimum value. Experiments over a range of benchmark datasets speak to the efficacy of DPCML.

Existing neural collaborative filtering (NCF) recommendation methods suffer from severe sparsity problem. knowledge Graph (KG), which commonly consists of fruitful connected facts about items, presents an unprecedented opportunity to alleviate the sparsity problem. However, pure NCF models can hardly model the high-order connectivity in KG, and ignores complex pairwise correlations between user/item embedding dimensions. To address these problems, we propose a novel knowledge graph enhanced Neural Collaborative Recommendation (K-NCR) framework, which effectively combines user–item interaction information and auxiliary knowledge information for recommendation task into three parts: (1) For items, the proposed propagating model learns the representation of item entity. It recursively aggregates information from its multi-hop neighbours in KG, and employs an attention mechanism to discriminate the importance of the relation type to mine users’ potential preferences. (2) For users, another heterogeneous attention weights are leveraged to strengthen the embedding learning of users. (3) The user and item embeddings are then fed into a newly designed two-dimensional interaction map with convolutional hidden layers to model the complex pairwise correlations between their embedding dimensions explicitly. Extensive experimental results on three benchmark datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our K-NCR framework. © 2020
