A review on biomass-derived CO₂ adsorption capture: Adsorbent, adsorber, adsorption, and advice

Adsorption CO2 capture technology has been regarded as one of the most promising approaches for effectively mitigating greenhouse gas (GHG), by which global warming could be controlled as well. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reported that the temperature increases should be kept within 1.5 degrees C other than 2. C, implying that some more typical negative-emissions technologies (NETs) should be intensively investigated, such as the biomass-derived CO2 adsorption process driven by solar thermal energy. In this review, for the post-combustion CO2 capture, the biomass-derived CO2 temperature swing adsorption (TSA) combining the potential of low-grade thermal energy utilization was primarily addressed. In terms of adsorbent, adsorber, and adsorption process, the biomass-derived CO2 adsorption capture was reviewed as the main guideline to achieve the negative-emissions targets. The development of high-performance biomass-derived CO2 adsorbent was investigated firstly, including the thermo-chemical conversion techniques, activation treatment, and surface modification. Biomass-derived CO2 adsorption technology could be verified as one cost-effective and environment-friendly method for alleviating climate change. From the view of heat and mass transfer, the design and optimization of CO2 adsorber were also reviewed for high-efficiently achieving biomass-derived CO2 capture process. Thirdly, the system design for the entire process was discussed from the thermodynamics view, suggesting that the biomass-derived CO2 adsorption capture driven by low-grade solar thermal energy could become more preferable and feasible for commercial-scale application. Finally, concluding remarks and future perspectives for biomass-derived CO2 adsorption capture were addressed.

Information on Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) is mostly limited to Europe and North America. This real-world, retrospective study assessed treatment pathways and clinical outcomes in adults with stage IIB-IV classical HL receiving frontline treatment (n = 1598) or relapsed/refractory HL (rrHL, n = 426) in regions outside Europe and North America between January 2010 and december 2013. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival (PFS) in the rrHL group. Among patients with rrHL, 89.0% received salvage chemotherapy;most common regimen was etoposide, methylprednisolone, cytarabine, cisplatin (ESHAP;26.3%). Median PFS in the rrHL group was 13.2 months (95% confidence interval [CI]: 9.9-20.2) and was longer in patients with vs. without stem cell transplantation (SCT;20.6 vs. 7.5 months;p = 0.0071). This large-scale study identified a lower PFS for rrHL in the rest of the world compared with Europe and North America, highlighting the need for novel targeted therapies and SCT earlier in the treatment continuum.

Oxidation of 2,6-dimethylheptane at low temperature: Kinetic modeling and experimental study

Branched alkanes represent an important class of compounds in conventional fuels and some bio-derived fuels. This study is dedicated to the investigation of the low-temperature oxidation chemistry of 2,6-dimethylheptane using a combination of experimental and computational methods. All the reactants, transition states, and products in the first oxidation stage, which are crucial to the initiation reactions in the low-temperature reaction chain, were optimized through the B3LYP/CBSB7 level of theory and a kinetic mechanism that included the new reaction pathways was assembled. Ignition delay time measurements were carried out in a rapid compression machine and the results were compared with modeling predictions. The kinetic mechanism is able to capture both the first and total ignition delay times with a root-mean-square deviation of 39.6%. In addition, sensitivity analysis is performed to quantify the impact of newly developed chemistry of 2,6-dimethylheptane on ignition delay time. rate parameters found in this study may be applicable to other branched alkanes with similar molecular structure.

The rapid growth of lithium dendrites has seriously hindered the development and practical application of high-energy-density all-solid-state lithium metal batteries (ASSLMBs). Herein, a soft carbon (SC)-Li3N mixed ionic and electronic conductive interface layer is designed, for which the in-situ lithiation reaction not only lithiated SC into LiC6 with good electronic/ionic conductivity, but also successfully transformed the mixed-phase Li3N into pure-phase β-Li3N with high ionic conductivity/ion diffusion coefficient and stability to lithium metal. This promotes the rapid migration of Li+ at the interface layer, induces the uniform deposition of lithium metal inside the interface layer, effectively suppresses the growth of lithium dendrites, and significantly improves the electrochemical performance of ASSLMB. LZO@LCO/LPSCl/SC-Li3N/Li ASSLMB achieves high current density (7.5 mA cm-2), ultra-high areal capacity (15 mAh cm-2, corresponding to LZO@LCO mass loadings of 114.14 mg cm-2), and ultra-long cycle life (6000 cycles). Therefore, the introduction of SC-Li3N mixed conducting interface layer can greatly improve the interfacial stability between solid-state electrolyte (SSE)/lithium metal anode and enable dendrite-free ASSLMBs. © 2023, The Authors. Ferroptosis, an intricately regulated form of cell death characterized by uncontrolled lipid peroxidation, has garnered substantial interest since this term was first coined in 2012. recent years have witnessed remarkable progress in elucidating the detailed molecular mechanisms that govern ferroptosis induction and defence, with particular emphasis on the roles of heterogeneity and plasticity. In this review, we discuss the molecular ecosystem of ferroptosis, with implications that may inform and enable safe and effective therapeutic strategies across a broad spectrum of diseases. In this review, dai, Stockwell, Kroemer, Tang and colleagues offer a comprehensive discussion of the molecular regulation of ferroptosis and highlight how this may be potentially leveraged for therapeutic benefit for disease treatment.

Macroautophagy/autophagy is a complex degradation process with a dual role in cell death that is influenced by the cell types that are involved and the stressors they are exposed to. Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent oxidative form of cell death characterized by unrestricted lipid peroxidation in the context of heterogeneous and plastic mechanisms. recent studies have shed light on the involvement of specific types of autophagy (e.g. ferritinophagy, lipophagy, and clockophagy) in initiating or executing ferroptotic cell death through the selective degradation of anti-injury proteins or organelles. Conversely, other forms of selective autophagy (e.g. reticulophagy and lysophagy) enhance the cellular defense against ferroptotic damage. dysregulated autophagy-dependent ferroptosis has implications for a diverse range of pathological conditions. Green fabrication of superhydrophobic melamine hollow sponge tube for effective NAPL treatment

The development of novel, highly effective, and durable materials for oil-water separation is of great significance in solving large-scale non-aqueous phase liquid (NAPL) contamination. Here, an environmentally friendly and durable superhydrophobic melamine sponge was fabricated by the decoration of core-shell titanium dioxide silica particles based on a sol-gel method and then facilely impregnated by stearic acid. The prepared sponge skeleton has nanoscale roughness and low surface energy, exhibiting superhydrophobicity. It was found that the modified sponge can selectively and efficiently absorb different NAPLs with the appreciable absorption capacity of 57.6–138.3 g∙g −1 . Modified sponges for oil-water separation show excellent separation efficiencies in excess of 99 % and a remarkable flux reaching up to 35805.6 L·m −2 ·h −1 . Furthermore, the modified sponge exhibits significant advantages including continuous, high effective and on-site field of NAPL removal over other conventional NAPL treatment techniques, as it can maintain robust hydrophobic and oleophilic properties even in harsh environments. Green preparation and good reusability and environmental friendliness make it a potential candidate for NAPL treatment.

In perovskite solar cells (PSCs), the introduction of an intermediate layer to bridge the transport and photoactive layers has become a key strategy for enhancing carrier extraction efficiency. However, traditional approaches are often limited by the seesaw effect, making it challenging to achieve an optimal balance between electron transport and defect passivation. In this study, we employed a Cu 2+ -loaded metalized porphyrin-based covalent organic framework (Cu-Por-COF) as a conductive porous layer (CPL) at the perovskite bottom interface. Experimental results showed that a Cu-Por-COF coverage of 19% significantly enhanced electron transport and effectively suppressed long-distance electron diffusion. Moreover, the carefully designed Cu-Por-COF provided abundant active sites, which improved the film-forming quality of the perovskite layer, thereby facilitating the beneficial synergy of electron injection and defect passivation. The n-i-p type devices achieved a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 25.41% (0.09 cm 2 ) and 21.99% (1.01 cm 2 ). Using Cu-Por-COF to stabilize the perovskite crystal structure, the unencapsulated devices retained over 81% of its initial efficiency after 2000 h. Additionally, Cu-Por-COF effectively chelated lead ions and thus enhanced the environmental sustainability of PSCs.

dynamic response of high temperature superconductor (HTS) to inhomogeneous distribution of magnetic field for permanent magnetic guideway (PMG), as well as to perturbations from the magnetic field of the PMG partially covered by iron sheet, are investigated. decay of levitation force is observed caused by AC magnetic field. Furthermore, resonant effect at 180 Hz is obtained caused by inhomogeneous distribution of magnetic field of permanent magnet guideway. Otherwise, electromagnetic oscillations caused by abruptly decrease of magnetic field are also observed.
