Identification of novel antioxidant collagen peptides for preventing and treating H2O2-induced oxidative stress in HepG2 cells through in vitro and in silico approaches

BACKGrOUNd: Nowadays, the prevalence of oxidative stress-related chronic diseases is increasing. The identification of novel antioxidant collagen peptides to counteract oxidative stress for individuals' health has gained significant ***: In this study, collagen peptides with antioxidant activities were separated and identified by ion chromatography, reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. The identified antioxidant collagen peptides were further screened by molecular docking for Keap1-targeted peptide inhibitors and their theoretical interaction mechanisms were investigated. Four novel antioxidant collagen peptides, GPAGPIGPVG, GPAGPpGPIG, ISGPpGPpGPA and IdGrPGPIGPA, with high binding affinity to Keap1 were selected. Molecular docking results demonstrated that the putative antioxidant mechanism of the four antioxidant collagen peptides contributed to their blockage of Keap1-Nrf2 interactions. The results of antioxidant activity of the four antioxidant collagen peptides proved that IdGrPGPIGPA exerted a high scavenging capacity for dPPH and ABTS free radicals, while GPAGPpGPIG improved the resistance of cells to hydrogen peroxide-induced oxidative damage by promoting the activation of intracellular antioxidant enzymes and the production of reduced glutathione in human hepatoma (HepG2) ***: The antioxidant collagen peptides (GPAGPIGPVG, GPAGPpGPIG, ISGPpGPpGPA and IdGrPGPIGPA) will be developed as novel functional food for human health in the near future.(c) 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.

For the first time, we demonstrated high-performance Ge-doped In2O3 (IGeO) thin film transistors (TFTs). Through comprehensive understanding of Ge-induced oxygen vacancy (Vo) consumption and crystallization mechanisms, the Vo generation is actively suppressed while increasing its crystallinity. The proposed IGeO TFT with fractional Ge doping (atomic concentration 0.4% by SIMS) presents an enhanced reliability (Δ Vth = 10 m V, +4 V for 3600 s) with high mobility (μFE = 62.7 cm2 V-1 S-1), which makes it a promising way to overcome the mobility/reliability tradeoff in In2O3-based TFTs. © 2024 IEEE.

A porous ceramic support is designed as a multi-functional independent catalyst layer for solid oxide fuel cells(SOFCs)running on liquid hydrocarbon *** layer consists of a highly porous Ce_(0.9)Ca_(0.1)O_(2−δ)ceramic backbone and active NiMo catalysts,which could be integrated into the conventional Ni metal containing the anode for internal reforming of the hydrocarbon *** to conventional catalyst layers sintered on the anodes,this independent catalyst layer could be simply assembled on top of the anode without additional sintering,thereby avoiding the mismatch of the thermal expansion coefficient between the catalyst layer and the anode and improving stability of a single ***,a current collector layer could be inserted between the catalyst and the anode to enhance current collection efficiency and electrochemical performance of the single *** 750℃,the independent catalyst layer displays high activity towards the catalytic decomposition of methanol,and the single cell could achieve the maximum power density of 400–500 mW·cm^(−2)in dry ***,by employing the independent catalyst layer,the single cell offers additional in-situ catalyst regeneration capability under the methanol operation *** 10 mL·min−1 air into an anode channel for 5 min is found to be effective to burn out carbon species in the catalyst layer,which reduces the degradation rate of the cell voltage by orders of magnitude from 2.6 to 0.024 mV·h−1 during the operation of 360 h in dry *** results demonstrate the significance of the independent catalyst layer design for direct internal reforming methanol fuel cells.

Endogenous crude Scutellaria baicalensis polysaccharide robustly enhances one-pot extraction and deglycosylation of baicalin

With the extensive application of baicalein in the treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, its clinical and market demand has gradually expanded. But the natural yield of baicalein is very low, and it is mainly prepared by the deglycosylation of baicalin. However, the insolubility of baicalin in water significantly limits the deglycosylation of it under biocatalysis. To make biocatalysis of baicalin more efficient and environmental, a strategy was designed to enhance its water solubility through the solubilization mechanism of endogenous biological macromolecules, and the effect on the activity of glucuronidase was further explored. The results showed that wrapping with Scutellaria baicalensis polysaccharide (SBP) significantly improved the solubility of baicalin in water (the water solubility of baicalin increased by 23 times, BI/SBP = 1/12, w/w). It was not only contributed to the efficient production of baicalein by one -pot method, but also effectively improved the deglycosylation rate of baicalin (increase by 47.04 % in aqueous solution). With the help of the solubilization of endogenous polysaccharide on baicalin in aqueous solution, a green, low-cost and efficient method (one -pot method) was designed to simultaneously extract and enzymatic hydrolyze baicalin to prepare baicalein. Under the same conditions, the yield of one -pot method is 87.17 %, which was much higher than that of the conventional method (29.38 %). In addition, one -pot method with the aid of endogenous polysaccharide could simply and conveniently prepare aglycone of other insoluble natural flavonoids, which has a wide range of industrial application value.

On a conjecture of Conlon, Fox and Wigderson

For graphs G and H, the ramsey number r(G, H) is the smallest positive integer N such that any red/blue edge coloring of the complete graph KN contains either a red G or a blue H. A book Bn is a graph consisting of n triangles all sharing a common edge. recently, Conlon, Fox and Wigderson conjectured that for any 0 ⌈αn⌉, Bn) ≥ (√α + 1)2n + o(n) is not tight. In other words, there exists some constant β > (√α + 1)2 such that r(B⌈αn⌉, Bn) ≥ βn for all sufficiently large n. This conjecture holds for every α ⌈αn⌉, Bn) = 2n + 3 for all sufficiently large n. We disprove the conjecture of Conlon, Fox and Wigderson. Indeed, we show that the random lower bound is asymptotically tight for every 1/4 ≤ α ≤ 1. Moreover, we show that for any 1/6 ≤ α ≤ 1/4 and large n, r(B⌈αn⌉, Bn) ≤ (32 + 3α) n + o(n), where the inequality is asymptotically tight when α = 1/6 or 1/4. We proposed and fabricated an InGaN/GaN visible-light heterojunction photodetector with ultrahigh gain based on polarization self-depletion and quasi-superlattices (QSLs) induced photoconductive gain. In the detector, the polarization induced electric field is used to deplete the InGaN/GaN QSL absorber, serving as an internal photogate. On the other hand, the QSLs with the specific quantum barrier width can localize the photogenerated holes, thereby generating additional photoconductive gain. Benefitted from these two effects, the peak optical gain and responsivity of the photodetector reach 5.8×104 and 1.9×104 A/W respectively, under 5 V bias and 402 nm illumination. Meanwhile, the photodetectors indicate excellent weak-light detection capability, as well as a remarkable wavelength selectivity with 402 nm/500 nm rejection ratio surpassing 1×104 © 2024 SPIE.

Optical metalenses offer a compact approach for the development of nanoscale optical devices with various imaging functionalities. realizing high-quality images using metalenses with large numerical aperture (NA) requires eliminating unwanted optical aberrations. Existing strategies have largely focused only on correcting chromatic aberrations, and a metalens capable of simultaneously correcting chromatic and spherical aberrations has not yet been developed. Here, this issue is addresed by realizing an aplanatic phase profile for a red-green-blue (rGB) achromatic metalens, thereby demonstrating an rGB-achromatic aplanatic metalens. This device consists of crystalline silicon nanostructures and it enables rGB-achromatic aplanatic focusing with an NA of 0.635. The focal length of metalens remains unchanged at the three rGB wavelengths, whereas the associated focal spots are significantly smaller than those of an rGB-achromatic metalens with spherical aberrations. An enhanced rGB imaging resolution is demonstrated, offering exciting opportunities to power up various imaging and display applications using flat metalenses. This paper demonstrates a high NA rGB-achromatic aplanatic metalens which successfully eliminates chromatic aberration at three rGB wavelengths, while the associated focal spots are significantly smaller than those of an rGB-achromatic metalens with spherical aberration. The metalens show enhanced rGB imaging resolution, offering exciting opportunities to power up various imaging and display applications using flat metalenses. image

Synergy recovery of Aluminum-Phosphorus from Incineration Sewage Sludge Ash by Acid and Alkaline Treatment

This study first focused on the wet chemical acidic leaching method from the laboratory scale, explored the potential of recovering phosphorus and aluminum from incineration ash, and studied the kinetic characteristics of phosphate and aluminum phosphate extracted by different acids, so as to select the appropriate acidic leaching extraction process. It was found that the extraction efficiency of phosphorus by oxalic acid was generally higher than that by inorganic acid. At the same time, when the concentration of leaching agent increased from 0.25 M to 1 M, the concentration of phosphorus leaching from sludge ash increased to 3.84%;when nitric acid is used as leaching agent, the leaching rate of aluminum is the highest. Then, based on the aluminum-rich ash, the above four leaching agents were used and the pH (NaOH) was adjusted to explore the kinetics of recovering Al-P. It was found that the recovery rates of phosphorus in ash were 99.84%, 87.99%, and 94.78%, respectively, and the recovery rate of Al can reach 100%. All these results show the recovery potential of aluminum-rich ash and expands the application route of ash phosphorus recovery to a certain extent. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Coating Seeds with Alginate-Like Exopolysaccharides Extracted from Conventional Activated Sludge Affects the Growth Physiology of Wheat Under Gradient Salt Stress

With the continuous innovations in wastewater treatment technology, the resource use of excess sludge has become the focus of research. Alginate-like exopolysaccharides (ALE) obtained from aerobic granular sludge and conventional activated sludge (CAS) have many practical applications, including waterproofing, adsorption, flame retardancy, slow-release properties, and seed coating. In this study, ALE extracted from the CAS was used as a new seed coating, which was uniformly sprayed onto the surface of wheat seeds. ALE was most effective in resisting salt stress in wheat seedlings at a NaCl concentration of 125 mmol/L. Germination percentage, plant height, K+/Na+ ratio, soluble sugar and soluble protein content of ALE-coated seeds increased by 13.33%, 46.32%, 37.25%, 8.89%, and 36.22%, respectively, compared with those of wheat seeds without ALE coating. Inhibition of O2·- product activity and malondialdehyde content were reduced by 38.62% and 48.00%, respectively. Therefore, the ALE coating had a mitigating effect on wheat seed germination and seedling growth in salt-stressed environments, and this application would be beneficial to the use of saline soil resources and the improvement of ecosystems in coastal areas. © 2024, The Authors. Influence of Crosslink density on the Interfacial Bonding Performance for Epoxy resin Towards Load-Induced Calcium Silicate Hydrate Gel

In epoxy-amine based self-healing cement-based materials, the uncontrollable stoichiometric ratio of both components in the cracks leads to the cured epoxy resin with various crosslink densities. Investigate the interaction mechanism between cured epoxy resin and C-S-H gel help us to optimize the final self-healing performances. In this work, the interaction between load-induced broken panels of C-S-H gel and cured epoxy resins with different crosslink densities (e.g., 0.23, 0.77, and 0.97) was studied through molecular dynamic methods. It was found that crosslink density plays an essential role in the geometrical size and atom distributions. Phase separation occurs at the low crosslink density due to the aggregation of amine molecules. The generation of fresh crosslink points limits the free motion of epoxy molecules with higher crosslink density. Meanwhile, the cured epoxy resin with higher crosslink density causes a high porosity in the interfacial region between the epoxy resin and C-S-H gel substrates. © 2023, The Authors.
