Protein design has become a critical method in advancing significant potential for various applications such as drug development and enzyme engineering. However, protein design methods utilizing large language models with solely pretraining and fine-tuning struggle to capture relationships in multi-modal protein data. To address this, we propose ProtDAT, a de novo fine-grained framework capable of designing proteins from any descriptive protein text input. ProtDAT builds upon the inherent characteristics of protein data to unify sequences and text as a cohesive whole rather than separate entities. It leverages an innovative multi-modal cross-attention, integrating protein sequences and textual information for a foundational level and seamless integration. Experimental results demonstrate that ProtDAT achieves the state-of-the-art performance in protein sequence generation, excelling in rationality, functionality, structural similarity, and validity. On 20,000 text-sequence pairs from Swiss-Prot, it improves pLDDT by 6%, TM-score by 0.26, and reduces RMSD by 1.2 Å, highlighting its potential to advance protein design. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.

Community detection is essential for identifying cohesive groups in complex networks. Artificial benchmarks are critical for evaluating community detection algorithms, offering controlled environments with known community structures. However, existing benchmarks mainly focus on homogeneous networks and overlook the unique characteristics of heterogeneous networks. This paper proposes a novel artificial benchmark, called ABCD-HN (Artificial Network Benchmark for Community Detection on Heterogeneous Networks), for community detection in heterogeneous networks. This benchmark enables the generation of artificial heterogeneous networks with controllable community quantity, node quantity, and community complexity. Additionally, an evaluation framework for artificial heterogeneous networks is proposed to assess their effectiveness. Constrained image splicing detection and localization (CISDL) is a fundamental task of multimedia forensics, which detects splicing operation between two suspected images and localizes the spliced region on both images. Recent works regard it as a deep matching problem and have made significant progress. However, existing frameworks typically perform feature extraction and correlation matching as separate processes, which may hinder the model's ability to learn discriminative features for matching and can be susceptible to interference from ambiguous background pixels. In this work, we propose a multi-scale target-aware framework to couple feature extraction and correlation matching in a unified pipeline. In contrast to previous methods, we design a target-aware attention mechanism that jointly learns features and performs correlation matching between the probe and donor images. Our approach can effectively promote the collaborative learning of related patches, and perform mutual promotion of feature learning and correlation matching. Additionally, in order to handle scale transformations, we introduce a multi-scale projection method, which can be readily integrated into our target-aware framework that enables the attention process to be conducted between tokens containing information of varying scales. Our experiments demonstrate that our model, which uses a unified pipeline, outperforms state-of-the-art methods on several benchmark datasets and is robust against scale transformations. © 2023 ACM.

Linear Graph Convolutional Networks (GCNs) are used to classify the node in the graph data. However, we note that most existing linear GCN models perform neural network operations in Euclidean space, which do not explicitly capture the tree-like hierarchical structure exhibited in real-world datasets that modeled as graphs. In this paper, we attempt to introduce hyperbolic space into linear GCN and propose a novel framework for Lorentzian linear GCN. Specifically, we map the learned features of graph nodes into hyperbolic space, and then perform a Lorentzian linear feature transformation to capture the underlying tree-like structure of data. Experimental results on standard citation networks datasets with semi-supervised learning show that our approach yields new state-of-the-art results of accuracy 74.7% on Citeseer and 81.3% on PubMed datasets. Furthermore, we observe that our approach can be trained up to two orders of magnitude faster than other nonlinear GCN models on PubMed dataset. Identifying defects in insulators, especially in small targets, remains a significant challenge due to the diverse types of insulators and complex transmission line backgrounds. This paper aims to enhance the accuracy of defect detection in insulators while minimizing the model’s parameter count for stable power system operation. To achieve this, we propose improvements to the feature fusion mechanism in the YOLOv8 network. These enhancements focus on better integrating multi-scale feature information, particularly emphasizing the detection sensitivity towards small targets. Additionally, these modifications lead to a reduction in the model’s parameter count while improving the detection accuracy of small targets. Furthermore, we introduce the SIOU loss function to the improved model, further enhancing its accuracy. Through experiments, our improved model achieves a mean average precision (mAP) of 89.2%, surpassing YOLOv8n by 2.7%. Remarkably, the model’s parameter count is significantly reduced to 2,796,249, demonstrating a balance between higher model accuracy and fewer parameters. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Table-to-text generation task refers to converting tabular data into language text to facilitate easier understanding and analysis of the table. Recently, pre-trained models have made significant advancements in this kind of tasks. However, the inherent structural differences between tabular data and text, and the lack of domain-specific knowledge in few-shot datasets, make it challenging for pre-trained models to generate faithful text. To solve these problems, we proposed a framework that encodes tables by obtaining structural bias attention through pruning full self-attention, distinguishing the importance of cells from a structural perspective. We use the pre-trained model with the structural bias framework to the generation component of Prototype-to-Generation. To encourage prototype memory to adhere to the table content and generate more accurate and aligned sentences, we employ Reinforcement Learning. We conducted extensive experiments on three few-shot table datasets. Compared to previous advanced methods, our model achieved superior performance across multiple evaluation metrics. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd 2024.

An Optimal Control-Based Distributed Reinforcement Learning Framework for A Class of Non-Convex Objective Functionals of the Multi-Agent Network

This paper studies a novel distributed optimization problem that aims to minimize the sum of the non-convex objective functionals of the multi-agent network under privacy protection, which means that the local objective of each agent is unknown to others. The above problem involves complexity simultaneously in the time and space aspects. Yet existing works about distributed optimization mainly consider privacy protection in the space aspect where the decision variable is a vector with finite dimensions. In contrast, when the time aspect is considered in this paper, the decision variable is a continuous function concerning time. Hence, the minimization of the overall functional belongs to the calculus of variations. Traditional works usually aim to seek the optimal decision function. Due to privacy protection and non-convexity, the Euler-Lagrange equation of the proposed problem is a complicated partial differential ***, we seek the optimal decision derivative function rather than the decision function. This manner can be regarded as seeking the control input for an optimal control problem, for which we propose a centralized reinforcement learning(RL) framework. In the space aspect, we further present a distributed reinforcement learning framework to deal with the impact of privacy protection. Finally, rigorous theoretical analysis and simulation validate the effectiveness of our framework.

There's growing recognition of how machine learning can revolutionize the precision and swiftness of clinical diagnoses by improving the classification of white blood cells. However, a machine learning model specialized in white blood cell classification demands access to a large trove of well-annotated data. This poses a challenge, as in the medical field, annotating data comprehensively comes with a high cost in terms of both money and time. To circumvent this, domain adaptation (DA) techniques are employed to leverage similar cell images from related domains, thereby boosting the model's performance in white blood cell classification in specific contexts. Among the myriad DA approaches available for this application, including TCA-based and deep learning methods, all typically suffer from lengthy training durations. Addressing this challenge, we introduce a novel DA method inspired by the random vector functional link (RVFL) network, a type of neural network characterized by its random weights. Our proposed method, named Domain Adaptation Random Vector Functional Link (DA-RVFL), capitalizes on the efficiency of RVFL networks to enhance white blood cell classification. This innovative approach shows some insights for future research in the efficient and effective classification of white blood cells. © 2024 IEEE.

Multipath signal recognition is crucial to the ability to provide high-precision absolute-position services by the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System(BDS).However,most existing approaches to this issue involve supervised machine learning(ML)methods,and it is difficult to move to unsupervised multipath signal recognition because of the limitations in signal *** by an autoencoder with powerful unsupervised feature extraction,we propose a new deep learning(DL)model for BDS signal recognition that places a long short-term memory(LSTM)module in series with a convolutional sparse autoencoder to create a new autoencoder ***,we propose to capture the temporal correlations in long-duration BeiDou satellite time-series signals by using the LSTM module to mine the temporal change patterns in the time ***,we develop a convolutional sparse autoencoder method that learns a compressed representation of the input data,which then enables downscaled and unsupervised feature extraction from long-duration BeiDou satellite series ***,we add an l_(1/2) regularizer to the objective function of our DL model to remove redundant neurons from the neural network while ensuring recognition *** tested our proposed approach on a real urban canyon dataset,and the results demonstrated that our algorithm could achieve better classification performance than two ML-based methods(e.g.,11%better than a support vector machine)and two existing DL-based methods(e.g.,7.26%better than convolutional neural networks).
