TERMS: Task management policies to achieve high performance for mixed workloads using surplus resources

Resource contentions and performance interferences can lead to workload performance degradation in mixed-workload deployment clusters. Previous work guarantees the resource requirements of latency-sensitive tasks and reduces performance losses to batch jobs by reclaiming surplus resources from over-provisioned tasks. While the fragmentation of resources leads to a mismatch between provisioned resources and task requirements, resulting in high operation overheads and losses of task fairness. This paper proposes TERMS, the task management policies based on task relevance, resource distribution, and task fairness to achieve efficient and low-cost task management. TERMS mainly includes three types of management policies. The task scheduling policy can schedule new tasks according to task relevance. Task selection strategies select tasks for resource provisioning and task resumption based on resource requirements and task fairness. If necessary, the node selection strategy can be used to choose befitting target nodes based on task relevance and node resource information for task migration when eliminating straggler tasks. Evaluation results show that TERMS can further improve the performance of latency-sensitive services and batch jobs, reduce management overheads, and avoid operation failures. © 2022 Elsevier Inc.

Deep learning (DL) is widely used in radio frequency fingerprint identification (RFFI). However, in few-shot case, traditional DL-based RFFI need to construct auxiliary dataset to realize radio frequency fingerprint identification. To address this issue, we propose a few-shot RFFI (FS-RFFI) method based on interpolating metric learning and KNN (IntML-KNN). Specifically, the method first extends the dataset with data augmentation, and CutMix interpolation. Secondly, combining with metric learning to enhance the generalization capacity of the model. Finally, KNN algorithm is designed to realize device classification and detection. The proposed IntML-KNN method is verified on the commercial available LoRa dataset. The experimental results indicate that the proposed scheme exhibits strong classification and generalization performance in FS-RFFI. Meanwhile, the recognition rate of the proposed IntML-KNN reaches 97.00% with only 10% samples. © 1994-2012 IEEE.

The Zr-2.5Nb alloy with a fine microstructure consisting ofαlaths was successfully prepared by electron beam melting(EBM).The thermal oxidation behaviors and kinetics of the as-built,and the EBM-built and hot isostatically pressed(HIPed)Zr-2.5Nb materials in a temperature range of 450-600°C were in-vestigated and compared with those of the alloy prepared by conventional casting and *** was found that the oxidation kinetics of the as-built and the forged materials followed the parabolic rate law during isothermal oxidation at 550°C,but the HIPed materials exhibited a parabolic-to-linear kinetic transition,suggesting that the larger grain sizes enhanced the *** oxide layers of all materials were composed of a large fraction of monoclinic zirconia phase(m-ZrO_(2))and a small fraction of tetrago-nal zirconia phase(t-ZrO_(2)),and transformed from t-ZrO_(2)to m-ZrO_(2)with increasing oxidation *** surface hardness of the as-built,the forged and the HIPed materials increased from 215,204,and 188 HV before oxidation to 902,1070,and 1137 HV after oxidation,*** cross-sections of the materi-als showed the presence of micropores and microcracks inside the oxide layers with thicknesses ranging from 4 to 8μ*** the oxidation temperature of 600°C and oxidation time duration of 3 h,a dense black m-ZrO_(2)oxide layer with smooth surface and 902 HV hardness was obtained on the EBM as-built Zr-2.5Nb materials.

With the development of society, network security becomes more and more important. It is inevitable to establish the risk index system to effectively monitor the security of network. In the previous study, due to absence of risk indicators, the risk supervising system is not perfect. However, there are few researches on the whole-link risk index system, and the determination of risk indicators lacks basis. Therefore, this paper firstly constructs a new risk index system of situational awareness, which can avoid the omission of risk indicators. Then the sliding window is used to observe this system and the optimal window width is found to determine the dynamic risk pool. Finally, the indicators of dynamic risk pool are used to dynamically monitor the whole link risk index system. The whole technical framework not only proves advantages of the mature risk index system of situational awareness, but also overcomes the disadvantage that the risk index of the whole link cannot be determined, and the dynamic risk pool has the sharing characteristics in the whole process. © 2022 ACM.

Stochastic Adversarial Networks for Multi-Domain Text Classification

Adversarial training has been instrumental in advancing multi-domain text classification (MDTC). Traditionally, MDTC methods employ a shared-private paradigm, with a shared feature extractor for domain-invariant knowledge and individual private feature extractors for domain-specific knowledge. Despite achieving state-of-the-art results, these methods grapple with the escalating model parameters due to the continuous addition of new domains. To address this challenge, we introduce the Stochastic Adversarial Network (SAN), which innovatively models the parameters of the domain-specific feature extractor as a multivariate Gaussian distribution, as opposed to a traditional weight vector. This design allows for the generation of numerous domain-specific feature extractors without a substantial increase in model parameters, maintaining the model’s size on par with that of a single domain-specific extractor. Furthermore, our approach integrates domain label smoothing and robust pseudo-label regularization to fortify the stability of adversarial training and to refine feature discriminability, respectively. The performance of our SAN, evaluated on two leading MDTC benchmarks, demonstrates its competitive edge against the current state-of-the-art methodologies. In the era of big data, data redundancy has become an obstacle to deep reading. The objective of linked data as a new data organization model is to transform data into structured data following unified standards. The lack of Chinese conceptual terms has seriously hindered the semantization and standardization of Chinese domain ontology. Taking Chinese historical events as an example, ontology technology is used in this paper to standardize the definition of concepts and semantic relations in domain knowledge. Moreover, concepts from text resources are extracted through a deep learning algorithm Bi-LSTM-CRFs and combined with an external knowledge base to realize the fusion of related data within various data sets. Ultimately, the knowledge ontology of historical events is displayed in the way of a knowledge graph to further explore the practical application. The results show that the accuracy of the terms extraction of historical events is about 80% indicating the good recognition performance and portability of the model. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

EvoChart: A Benchmark and a Self-Training Approach Towards Real-World Chart Understanding

Chart understanding enables automated data analysis for humans, which requires models to achieve highly accurate visual comprehension. While existing Visual Language Models (VLMs) have shown progress in chart understanding, the lack of high-quality training data and comprehensive evaluation benchmarks hinders VLM chart comprehension. In this paper, we introduce EvoChart, a novel self-training method for generating synthetic chart data to enhance VLMs’ capabilities in real-world chart comprehension. We also propose EvoChart-QA, a noval benchmark for measuring models’ chart comprehension abilities in real-world scenarios. Specifically, EvoChart is a unique self-training data synthesis approach that simultaneously produces high-quality training corpus and a high-performance chart understanding model. EvoChart-QA consists of 650 distinct real-world charts collected from 140 different websites and 1,250 expert-curated questions that focus on chart understanding. Experimental results on various open-source and proprietary VLMs tested on EvoChart-QA demonstrate that even the best proprietary model, GPT-4o, achieves only 49.8% accuracy. Moreover, the EvoChart method significantly boosts the performance of open-source VLMs on real-world chart understanding tasks, achieving 54.2% accuracy on EvoChart-QA. © 2024, CC BY.

The controlled preparation of hexagonal tungsten trioxide(h-WO_(3))nanostructures was achieved by adjusting the pH of the precursor *** effect of the pH on the morphology,elemental composition,and photocatalytic performance of the samples was characterized via X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy,energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy,and Raman ***-visible(UV-Vis)spectra were used to evaluate the absorbance and the photocatalytic performance of methylene ***(PL),electrochemical impedance spectroscopy,photocurrent response and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller(BET)were used to study the optical properties,electrical performance,and specific surface area of the WO_(3)-nanostructures,*** results indicate that the WO_(3) nanorods prepared at pH=1.0 exhibit the highest photocatalytic performance(87.4%in 1 h),whereas the WO_(3) nanoblocks prepared at p H=3.0 show the *** photocatalytic performance of the one dimensional(1 D)-nanorods can be attributed to their high specific surface area and charge transfer *** h-WO_(3) nanostructures were synthesized via a simple method and without a capping *** show an excellent photocatalytic performance,which is promising for their application in environment purification.

Instant delivery has become a fundamental service in people's daily lives. Different from the traditional express service, the instant delivery has a strict shipping time constraint after being ordered. However, the labor shortage makes it challenging to realize efficient instant delivery. To tackle the problem, researchers have studied to introduce vehicles (i.e., taxis) or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs or drones) into instant delivery tasks. Unfortunately, the delivery detour of taxis and the limited battery of UAVs make it hard to meet the rapidly increasing instant delivery demands. Under this circumstance, this paper proposes an air-ground cooperative instant delivery paradigm to maximize the delivery performance and meanwhile minimize the negative effects on the taxi passengers. Specifically, a data-driven delivery potential-demands-aware cooperative strategy is designed to improve the overall delivery performance of both UAVs and taxis as well as the taxi passengers' experience. The experimental results show that the proposed method improves the delivery number by 30.1% and 114.5% compared to the taxi-based and UAV-based instant delivery respectively, and shortens the delivery time by 35.7% compared to the taxi-based instant delivery. © 2024 IEEE.

The applications of mobile communication and automatic driving-related technologies in transportation have made a revolution for us in traffic information perception, vehicle cooperative control, and traffic management. Besides, the emergence and development of connected vehicles (CV) and connected and autonomous vehicles (CAV) have gradually changed the traditional traffic flow into a mixed one. In order to investigate their influences and characteristics of mixed traffic flows, this paper constructs an analysis model to derive the linear stability condition of the mixed traffic flow with CV and CAV based on the simplified desired safety margin (SDSM) model. Several numerical experiments are conducted to analyze the string stability of homogeneous and heterogeneous traffic flow, respectively. The results reveal that the presence of CAV could contribute to improving the string stability as well as reducing rear-end crashes. The higher the penetration rate of CAV, the more stable the string. And the time delay in drivers and communications is not conducive to the string stability. Besides, it is also found that controllable vehicles show great potential in preventing shockwave formation and propagation, suggesting a new way in traffic flow management. © ASCE.
