A pretrained transformer model for decoding individual glucose dynamics from continuous glucose monitoring data

Continuous glucose monitoring(CGM) technology has grown rapidly to track real-time blood glucose levels and trends with improved sensor accuracy. The ease of use and wide availability of CGM will facilitate safe and effective decision making for diabetes management. Here, we developed an attention-based deep learning model, CGMformer, pretrained on a well-controlled and diverse corpus of CGM data to represent individual's intrinsic metabolic state and enable clinical applications. During pretraining, CGMformer encodes glucose dynamics including glucose level, fluctuation, hyperglycemia, and hypoglycemia into latent space with self-supervised learning. It shows generalizability in imputing glucose value across five external datasets with different populations and metabolic states(MAE = 3.7 mg/d L). We then fine-tuned CGMformer towards a diverse panel of downstream tasks in the screening of diabetes and its complications using task-specific data, which demonstrated a consistently boosted predictive accuracy over direct fine-tuning on a single task(AUROC = 0.914 for type 2 diabetes(T2D) screening and 0.741 for complication screening). By learning an intrinsic representation of an individual's glucose dynamics,CGMformer classifies non-diabetic individuals into six clusters with elevated T2D risks, and identifies a specific cluster with lean body-shape but high risk of glucose metabolism disorders, which is overlooked by traditional glucose measurements. Furthermore, CGMformer achieves high accuracy in predicting an individual's postprandial glucose response with dietary modelling(Pearson correlation coefficient = 0.763)and helps personalized dietary recommendations. In systems biology, gene regulatory networks can well reveal complex biological systems and dynamic biological processes. Traditional gene regulatory network reconstruction methods ignore dynamic biological processes. A gene regulatory network reconstruction method based on transfer entropy and single-cell dynamic time series data is proposed to solve this problem. And from a theoretical point of view, the possibility and rationality of transfer entropy in the application of big data and causal reasoning are proved in detail. Firstly, the method construct pseudo-time series dynamic gene expression data based on trajectory inference. Secondly, The transfer entropy is used to calculate the directional transfer information between paired genes, and screen the major gene regulatory relationships. Finally, remove the indirect gene regulation relationship according to the data processing inequality, and construct the gene regulation network. This method takes the single cell sequencing data of early mouse embryo blood development as an example, and selects TENET and DynGENIE3 algorithms as comparisons, which proves the feasibility and effectiveness of this method from the theoretical and experimental perspectives. The experimental results not only identify the key cell development regulatory factors and regulatory relationships, but also consume less time. It can not only provide important reference value and assumptions for biological disturbance experiment, but also reduce the time cost and research cost of biological experiment. © 2023 SPIE.

This paper concerns the stability of switched systems orchestrating between unstable modes. First, a mode partition is applied to select stabilizing switching from the switching between modes from different subsets. Second, a piecewise Lyapunov-like function is applied to decline at stabilizing switching times. Then, the stability criteria build on mode-partition-dependent average dwell time by collecting enough stabilizing switching behavior to stabilize the destabilizing switching behavior and unstable modes. Finally, the simulation verification shows the feasibility and effectiveness of the method. © 2022 The Franklin Institute

Various algorithms of traditional visual Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) can well match with static scenes, but mismatches will occur in dynamic scenes, which makes the positioning and mapping of the SLAM system produce large errors. Therefore, this paper proposed a visual odometry algorithm based on semantic feature points, which can improve the positioning accuracy in dynamic scenes. The algorithm combined semantic information to detect dynamic objects, and then detects and eliminates dynamic feature points. This paper conducted an extensive evaluation of the system and compared it with ORB-SLAM3 and other dynamic scene SLAM systems. The experimental results show that this method greatly improves the positioning accuracy of the camera and the robustness of the system in a highly complex dynamic environment, which verifies the advancement and effectiveness of the algorithm in this paper. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Individual Tree Detection-and-Counting(ITDC)is among the important tasks in town areas,and numerous methods are proposed in this *** their many advantages,still,the proposed methods are inadequate to provide robust results because they mostly rely on the direct field *** paper presents a novel approach involving high-resolution imagery and the Canopy-Height-Model(CHM)data to solve the ITDC *** new approach is studied in six urban scenes:farmland,woodland,park,industrial land,road and residential ***,it identifies tree canopy regions using a deep learning network from high-resolution *** then deploys the CHM-data to detect treetops of the canopy regions using a local maximum algorithm and individual tree canopies using the region ***,it calculates and describes the number of individual trees and tree *** proposed approach is experimented with the data from Shanghai,*** results show that the individual tree detection method had an average overall accuracy of 0.953,with a precision of 0.987 for woodland ***,the R2 value for canopy segmentation in different urban scenes is greater than 0.780 and 0.779 for canopy area and diameter size,*** results confirm that the proposed method is robust enough for urban tree planning and management.

Bioinspired polarized skylight navigation,which can be used in unfamiliar territories,is an important alternative autonomous navigation technique in the absence of Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS).However,the polarization pattern in night environment with noise effects and model uncertainties is a less explored *** several decades have passed since the first publication about the polarization of the moonlit night sky,the usefulness of nocturnal polarization navigation is only sporadic in previous *** study demonstrates that the nocturnal polarized light is capable of providing accurate and stable navigation information in dim light outdoor *** on the statistical characteristics of Angle of Polarization(Ao P)error,a probability density estimation method is proposed for heading *** illustrate the application potentials,the simulation and outdoor experiments are ***,the proposed method robustly models the distribution of Ao P error and gives accurate heading estimation evaluated by Standard Deviation(STD)which is 0.32°in a clear night sky and 0.47°in a cloudy night sky.

With the explosive growth of information, recommendation systems have emerged to alleviate the problem of information overload. In order to improve the performance of recommendation systems, many existing methods introduce Large Language Models to extract textual information from description text. However, Large Language Models are trained on large-scale generic textual data and may face a semantic gap for downstream recommendation tasks. To address the above issues, we propose Contrastive Learning for Adapting Language Model to Sequential Recommendation (CLA-Rec). In CLA-Rec, we first extract text embeddings from description text using Large Language Models and align the text embeddings learned by Large Language Models with the collaborative information through contrastive learning to obtain high-quality item representations. Through semantic alignment, we bridge the semantic gap between Large Language Models and the recommendation task. To map textual information and collaborative information into user representations, we utilize a Transformer model to learn user representations and capture user preferences by combining the semantically aligned item representations. Extensive experiments on three public datasets demonstrate that our method outperforms state-of-the-art approaches on multiple evaluation metrics, illustrating the effectiveness of the CLA-Rec model in adapting Large Language Models to recommendation tasks. © 2024 IEEE.

Blockchain technologies pave a promising way for implementing the inter-organizational processes. Most of the current research works translate the execution logic in the process models into the smart contracts, which can run independently on the blockchain without the outside process engine. However, the works usually suffer from the execution and storage costs, since the translation needs to be done when the processes are deployed. In this paper, we customize a process engine for executing the inter-organizational business processes via a blockchain-style procedure, i.e., checking the validity of transactions, adding the valid transactions into the blockchain through the consensus mechanism, and then updating the process states according to the committed transactions. And then, we build a blockchain system by embedding the customized process engine into the blockchain nodes. Moreover, in order to realize the interactions between the inter-organizational processes running on blockchain and the services outside blockchain, we propose a blockchain-based approach for service registration, binding and invocation, and design a lease-based concurrency control protocol to logically isolate transactions from each other when invoking the services simultaneously. Finally, we implement a prototype system based on a permissioned blockchain platform Hyperledger Fabric and a process engine Activiti. The experimental results show the proposed blockchain system can execute the inter-organizational processes correctly and efficiently.
