Pose estimation is important for robotic perception, path planning, etc. Robot poses can be modeled on matrix Lie groups and are usually estimated via filter-based methods. In this paper, we establish the closed-form formula for the error propagation for the Invariant extended Kalman filter (IEKF) in the presence of random noises and apply it to vision-aided inertial navigation. We evaluate our algorithm via numerical simulations and experiments on the OPENVINS platform. Both simulations and the experiments performed on the public EuRoC MAV datasets demonstrate that our algorithm outperforms some state-of-art filter-based methods such as the quaternion-based EKF, first estimates Jacobian EKF, etc. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. We investigate the issue of a co-design event-based scheme and dynamic output controller for the H ∞ -stabilization of cyber-physical systems with network delays and packet loss. In particular, we are interested in the way to transmit information in dual-side transmissions, i.e., measurement and control channels, which have their own dynamic event-triggered sampling rules to construct dual-side mechanisms. The co-design conditions are boiled down to a class of bilinear matrix inequality problems, using a successive convex optimization method to overcome the non-convex problem and obtain the design parameters simulta-neously, which can get the desired control performance while reducing the data transmission stress. Finally, the validity of the proposed methodology is illustrated by a numerical case.

High-quality underwater images play an important role in obtaining and understanding underwater information. However, raw underwater images have many problems, such as low contrast, chromatic aberration, blur and low light, which seriously restrict the progress of other underwater tasks. In this paper, we propose an Underwater Mixed Spatial Attention Network (UMSAN) for underwater image enhancement. The evaluation on the EUVP dataset and some other real underwater images demonstrates that our network is sufficient against several of the advanced models. © 2021 Institute of Physics Publishing. Tumor localization and lymph node metastasis (LNM) diagnosis are two important tasks for gynecologist to make decisions in cervical cancer treatments. Aiming to develop an accurate and convenient diagnosis system, we propose a multi-task residual cross-attention network named MRCNet for tumor segmentation and LNM prediction. Specifically, we tackle task correlation with underlying related supervision information, and capture multi-level features by multi-scale convolutional neural network, which equipped with cross-attention module concerning spatial and channel dimensions to emphasize meaningful features. A total of 1123 cervical cancer patients from 13 centers in China are collected to assess the architecture, 2 centers of them were set as an external testing cohort. The experimental results demonstrate the promising inference performance and generalization ability of our MRCNet for both segmentation and classification tasks, which can help doctors make judgments about treatment measures.

Interference and scattering, often deemed undesirable, are inevitable in wireless communications, especially when the current mobile networks and upcoming sixth generation (6G) have turned into ultra-dense networks. Current approaches relying on multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) combined with artificial-intelligence-aided (AI) signal processing have drawbacks of being power-hungry and requiring wide bandwidth that raise scalability concerns. In this article, we take a radical approach and utilize the channel fading phenomenon to our advantage. Specifically, we propose a novel meta-fluid antenna architecture, referred to as the ‘fluid’ antenna system (FAS), that can freely surf on radio wave fluctuations, like ‘fluid’ figuratively speaking, with fine resolution in space to opportunistically avoid interference, eliminating the need for expensive signal processing. Our experimental results demonstrate that under rich scattering conditions, the proposed meta-fluidic architecture is able to exploit the natural ups and downs of radio waves in space for spatial multiplexing. These breakthrough results show that scattering can be desirable not harmful and interference can be dodged not suppressed, fundamentally changing our perception of fading and our understanding on how interference should be managed in wireless communications networks. © 2025, CC0.

Sequential Recommender Systems (SRS), leveraging the temporal information from users' behaviors, have noticeably improved user experience against traditional systems. However, these behaviors often follow long-tail distribution, making the systems biased towards popular items (i.e., popularity bias). Moreover, popularity bias would amplify the neglect of long-tail recommendations, thereby sharpening the long-tail problem. Previous researches usually address these challenges independently, focusing on reducing the over-recommendation of popular items or enhancing the representation quality of tail items. Indeed, it is possible to incorporate their merits to achieve the best of both worlds. Thus, we propose a novel and unified framework, named Collaborative Solution to Long tailed problem and Popularity bias (CSLP), to tackle both the long-tail problem and popularity bias simultaneously. To achieve this, we first introduce a representation enhancement module featuring dual generators to enhance user and item representations, particularly for those in the tail. On the other hand, a debiasing module incorporating an Inverse Propensity Score (IPS) with a clipping strategy is introduced to further alleviate the popularity bias. Specifically, this clipping strategy demonstrates a clear decrease in the original IPS method's variance, effectively improving the recommendation for stability and accuracy. Experiments on three widely-used datasets show CSLP's effectiveness in solving both issues. CSLP surpasses all baselines (traditional, popularity bias, and long-tail problem) in overall performance, significantly enhancing recommendation accuracy for both tail users and items, and achieving a more balanced ratio of recommendations between popular and tail items. Communication efficiency is one of the key bottlenecks in Federated Learning (FL). Compression techniques, such as sparsification and quantization, are used to reduce communication overhead. However, joint designs of these techniques under communication constraints are not well-explored. This paper investigates the joint uplink compression problem in communication-constrained FL systems. We propose a Block-TopK sparsification scheme to reduce the proportion of bits used for locating entries of a sparsified vector. Considering the communication constraints, an optimization formulation is proposed to minimize the compression error. By solving the optimization problem, our joint compression method provides a better trade-off between sparsity budget and bit width. Numerical results demonstrate that our approach achieves 99.96% of baseline accuracy with only 1.56% of the baseline communication overhead when training ResNet-18 on CIFAR-10.

The miniaturization and integration of beam steering devices have consistently been the focus of the field. Conventional methods alter the eigenmode of the optical cavity by regulating the refractive index. Due to the weak nonlinear effect of the optical system, the device must be sufficiently large to achieve sufficient light modulation. The effective method for miniaturizing beam steering devices currently in use is based on metasurfaces. However, this type of device necessitates the input of a laser source, which precludes the simultaneous generation and control of light in a single device. Here we propose a miniaturized beam steering device that employs mode selection between different bound states in the continuum (BIC) states through phase change material. The device is capable of simultaneously achieving both light generation and beam steering (33°) in a single device with a size of only 25 μm and with a low threshold of 8.9 kW cm-2. Furthermore, it is possible to achieve a significant degree of dynamic wavelength tunability, with a range extending up to 296 nm. This method achieves high-efficient regulation of light properties by dynamically controlling the system’s topological charge, circumventing the problem of weak nonlinearity in traditional methods. Furthermore, the integration of phase change materials with nanolasers enables the direct alteration of lasing properties, which provides a novel idea for dynamic light control. The device process scheme based on phase change materials is straightforward, direct, and highly compatible, which will be advantageous for its intended application. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. Learning Semantic Textual Similarity via Topic-informed Discrete Latent Variables

Recently, discrete latent variable models have received a surge of interest in both Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Computer Vision (CV), attributed to their comparable performance to the continuous counterparts in representation learning, while being more interpretable in their predictions. In this paper, we develop a topic-informed discrete latent variable model for semantic textual similarity, which learns a shared latent space for sentence-pair representation via vector quantization. Compared with previous models limited to local semantic contexts, our model can explore richer semantic information via topic modeling. We further boost the performance of semantic similarity by injecting the quantized representation into a transformer-based language model with a well-designed semantic-driven attention mechanism. We demonstrate, through extensive experiments across various English language datasets, that our model is able to surpass several strong neural baselines in semantic textual similarity tasks. © 2022, CC0.
