Video emotional description with fact reinforcement and emotion awaking

Video description aims to translate the visual content in a video with appropriate natural language. Most of current works only focus on the description of factual content, paying insufficient attention to the emotions in the video. And the sentences always lack flexibility and vividness. In this work, a fact enhancement and emotion awakening based model is proposed to describe the video, making the sentence more attractive and colorful. The strategy of deep incremental leaning is employed to build a multi-layer sequential network firstly, and multi-stage training method is used to sufficiently optimize the model. Secondly, the modules of fact inspiration, fact reinforcement and emotion awakening are constructed layer by layer to discovery more facts and embed emotions naturally. The three modules are cumulatively trained to sufficiently mine the factual and emotional information. Two public datasets including EmVidCap-S and EmVidCap are employed to evaluate the proposed model. The experimental results show that the performance of the proposed model is superior to not only the baseline models, but also the other popular methods. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2024.

The paper studies the leader-following consensus of the switched uncertain time-delay MASs under fixed directed communication topology. Through the switching distributed controller and the minimum dwell time, the sufficient conditions in terms of matrix inequalities are obtained by L-K functional dependent on switching law to guarantee the leader-following consensus performance. Denial of service (DoS) attacks is among the most harmful network threats. Low-rate DoS (LDoS) attacks feature good concealment and are likely to evade detection by conventional signal analysis-based methods. A LDoS attack detection method that combines the convolutional neural network and the gated recurrent unit is proposed in the present work. To evaluate the proposed method, we collect real user traffic from a university's website, label the traffic with LDoS attacks as normal traffic. In order to get the real attack traffic, this paper has collected some new LDoS attack programs, such as slowloris, slowhttptest, pwnlloris, torhammer and httplog, which can be obtained from public channels, and constructed a LAN environment that conformed to the working scenario of the program. By running the attack program, the attack traffic could be obtained. In a large sample scenario, the average detection rate of our proposed method can reach 98.68%. This article focuses on the research: the average detection rate of the detection method proposed in this article in the case that the security agency can only intercept a small number of attack samples. That is, in the small sample scenario, the detection of the collected traffic shows that the average detection rate of the proposed detection method can reach 89.54% in a small sample scenario. Its effective detection rate is obviously superior to the existing similar detection methods. © 2023 IEEE.

Link prediction is a crucial issue in opportunistic networks routing research. Static link prediction methods ignore the historical information of network evolution, which affects the prediction accuracy. In this paper, we propose a link prediction method (HS-LSTM) that combines hybrid similarity metrics and the E-LSTM-D model. The approach extracts structural features using hybrid similarity metrics, constructs a structural feature matrix, and applies the E-LSTM-D model to extract temporal features and predict the links that have not yet appeared in the network. Our experiments on three real datasets of opportunistic networks (Infocom5, MIT, and Haggle) shows that our proposed method outperforms the baseline method in terms of prediction accuracy. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Due to over-abundant information on the Web, information filtering becomes a key task for online users to obtain relevant suggestions and how to extract the most related item is always a key topic for researchers in various fields. In this paper, we adopt tools used to analyze complex networks to evaluate user reputation and item quality. In our proposed Accumulative Time Based Ranking (ATR) algorithm, we take into account the growth record of the network to identify the evolution of the reputation of users and the quality of items, by incorporating two behavior weighting factors which can capture the hidden facts on reputation and quality dynamics for each user and item respectively. Our proposed ATR algorithm mainly combines the iterative approach to rank user reputation and item quality with temporal dependence compared with other reputation evaluation methods. We show that our algorithm outperforms other benchmark ranking algorithms in terms of precision and robustness on empirical datasets from various online retailers and the citation datasets among research publications. Therefore, our proposed method has the capability to effectively evaluate user reputation and item quality.

Personalized learner modeling uses learners’ historical behavior data to diagnose their cognitive abilities, a process known as Cognitive Diagnosis (CD). This is essential for web-based learning services such as learning resource recommendation and adaptive testing. However, prior studies have shown that CD models may unfairly correlate learners’ abilities with sensitive attributes (e.g., gender, region), leading to biased outcomes. While existing approaches mitigate this issue by decorrelating sensitive attributes from the modeling process, privacy concerns make collecting such attributes impractical. Furthermore, the presence of multiple sensitive attributes complicates fairness improvements. In this paper, we explore how to achieve fair personalized learner modeling without relying on any sensitive attribute input. We introduce a novel fairness objective tailored for personalized learner modeling and design a max-min strategy to facilitate both sensitive information inference and fair CD modeling. In the max step, we infer pseudo-labels by maximizing the fairness objective, while in the min step, we retrain the CD model by minimizing it. Additionally, we provide a theoretical guarantee that our framework reduces the upper bound of fairness generalization error. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed framework significantly outperforms existing methods. © 2025 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

In this paper, we introduce an innovative approach to weakly supervised medical image segmentation with box annotations. Different from the previous methods which simply utilize a single conventional network with the same augmentation techniques widely used in supervised segmentation, we aim to introduce diverse augmentations and heterogenous networks to leverage the box annotations for promising generalization ability. Specifically, to amplify the diversity between the contents within the box and its surroundings, we propose the interior and exterior box augmentation (IEBA) technique, in which distinct augmentation techniques are employed for regions inside and outside the bounding boxes. Also, for the purpose of selecting pseudo-labels of superior quality, we propose the pseudo-label filter module (PLFM) to eliminate unreliable pseudo-labels. Besides, as CNN demonstrates superior capabilities in acquiring local information, and ViT specializes in capturing global context, we facilitate a bidirectional learning process between CNN and ViT through quadruple cross consistency losses (QCCL). In inference, we only employ the superior model from the validation set to obtain parameter efficiency. Our approach is evaluated across four tasks on two public datasets, utilizing the 3D dice similarity coefficient as the evaluation metric. The experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms the state-of-the-art comparison methods. © IFIP International Federation for Information Processing 2025.
