Can stock markets lead the macroeconomic variables? Dynamic analysis based on TOP method

Fictitious economy connects with real economy in many aspects. The interaction between stock markets and macro-economy is becoming more and more crucial for different parties in the whole economic society. On the basis of the Thermal Optimal Path (TOP) method, this paper used the quarterly and monthly data of seven pairs of time series to analyse the dynamic lead-lag connections between the macro-economic fluctuation and the stock market change. The results suggest that the data of stock market can be used to predict the macro-economic variables for most time periods. Investors as an important agent in the stock markets, their expectations can be reflected by stock prices. The irrationality of investors can affect the” barometer” function of stock markets.

Threshold and Deadline Effect in Crowdfunding

The deadline effect and threshold effect are common in product development and group buying. We consider these two effects also exist in crowdfunding, affecting the crowdfunding performance in the future. We conduct an empirical study using a dataset from *** to examine these two effects and their interactive relationship on the following crowdfunding performance. We find the threshold effect exists in crowdfunding and has a positive influence on the following contribution behaviour. The deadline effect also can stimulate the crowdfunding behaviour via limited fundraising time. Furthermore, we find the threshold effect and deadline effect are complements that increase the amount pledged.

Deep learning compact binary codes for fingerprint indexing

With the rapid growth in fingerprint databases, it has become necessary to develop excellent fingerprint indexing to achieve efficiency and accuracy. Fingerprint indexing has been widely studied with real-valued features,but few studies focus on binary feature representation, which is more suitable to identify fingerprints efficiently in large-scale fingerprint databases. In this study, we propose a deep compact binary minutia cylinder code（DCBMCC）as an effective and discriminative feature representation for fingerprint indexing. Specifically, the minutia cylinder code（MCC）, as the state-of-the-art fingerprint representation, is analyzed and its shortcomings are ***, we propose a novel fingerprint indexing method based on deep neural networks to learn *** novel network restricts the penultimate layer to directly output binary codes. Moreover, we incorporate independence, balance, quantization-loss-minimum, and similarity-preservation properties in this learning ***, a multi-index hashing（MIH） based fingerprint indexing scheme further speeds up the exact search in the Hamming space by building multiple hash tables on binary code substrings. Furthermore, numerous experiments on public databases show that the proposed approach is an outstanding fingerprint indexing method since it has an extremely small error rate with a very low penetration rate.

This paper introduces China＇s New Third Board Market（the NTB market） and tests the market-making system in the role of improving market liquidity. The NTB Market is the main part of China＇s OTC market, established in 2006. In comparing with China＇s Main Board Market and the Second Board Market, it attracts a lot of start-up companies that need financing with less strict listing requirements. Meanwhile, it is full of opportunities and challenges that appeal to numerous securities traders and investors with the rapid development momentum. Since its establishment, the NTB Market has been stuck in the lack of liquidity. The authority of the NTB Market introduced market maker system, so as to solve the problem of liquidity. Using the difference-in-difference method（DID method）, the market maker system has been proved to make little contribution to improving the stock liquidity. Although the problem of liquidity is difficult to solve in short term, the NTB Market is full of opportunities for all kinds of participants definitely.

Detection and classification of X-ray baggage security imagery are of great significance not only in daily life. However, up to now, it is still difficult for the traditional image processing methods to detect and distinguish objects which we want to detect in X-Ray baggage security imagery. Moreover, it is even more challenging to classify different types of objects. Although the current state-of-the-art detectors have achieved impressive performance on various public datasets with visible images, these detectors fail to deal with objects in X-ray images. This paper proposes an object detection algorithm for X-Ray baggage security screening images. Firstly, to outline the detected object from X-Ray baggage security imagery, we propose a fore-ground-background segmentation method which based on color information. Then, to classify and outline different type of object in X-Ray im-age, a deep convolutional neural networks (DCNNs) based object detection framework Faster R-CNN are proposed. In this stage we also use transfer learning method to speed up Faster R-CNN. The proposed method is proved to achieve 77% mAP by in a real-word dataset which contains 32,253 sub-way X-Ray baggage security screening images.

Spatiotemporal CNN for video object segmentation

In this paper, we present a unified, end-to-end trainable spatiotemporal CNN model for VOS, which consists of two branches, i.e., the temporal coherence branch and the spatial segmentation branch. Specifically, the temporal coherence branch pretrained in an adversarial fashion from unlabeled video data, is designed to capture the dynamic appearance and motion cues of video sequences to guide object segmentation. The spatial segmentation branch focuses on segmenting objects accurately based on the learned appearance and motion cues. To obtain accurate segmentation results, we design a coarse-to-fine process to sequentially apply a designed attention module on multi-scale feature maps, and concatenate them to produce the final prediction. In this way, the spatial segmentation branch is enforced to gradually concentrate on object regions. These two branches are jointly fine-tuned on video segmentation sequences in an end-to-end manner. Several experiments are carried out on three challenging datasets (i.e., DAVIS2016, DAVIS-2017 and Youtube-Object) to show that our method achieves favorable performance against the stateof-the-arts. As pairwise ranking becomes broadly employed for elections, sports competitions, recommendation, information retrieval and so on, attackers have strong motivation and incentives to manipulate or disrupt the ranking list. They could inject malicious comparisons into the training data to fool the target ranking algorithm. Such a technique is called "poisoning attack" in regression and classification tasks. In this paper, to the best of our knowledge, we initiate the first systematic investigation of data poisoning attack on the pairwise ranking algorithms, which can be generally formalized as the dynamic and static games between the ranker and the attacker, and can be modeled as certain kinds of integer programming problems mathematically. To break the computational hurdle of the underlying integer programming problems, we reformulate them into the distributionally robust optimization (DRO) problems, which are computational tractable. Based on such DRO formulations, we propose two efficient poisoning attack algorithms and establish the associated theoretical guarantees including the existence of Nash equilibrium and the generalization ability bounds. The effectiveness of the suggested poisoning attack strategies is demonstrated by a series of toy simulations and several real data experiments. These experimental results show that the proposed methods can significantly reduce the performance of the ranker in the sense that the correlation between the true ranking list and the aggregated results with toxic data can be decreased dramatically. © 2021, CC BY-NC-ND.

With the improvement of people’s living standards, Chinese residents have paid more and more attention to health. The development of science and technology has made medical health big data emerge and has gradually become a research hotspot. In our paper, we first adopted Logistic Regression to find out the important variables for health seeking behavior and then we verified that this behavior can be predicted based on machine learning algorithms. By comparing classic Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithm and improved SVM model with different variables, we finally proposed a SVM model based on SMOTE algorithm that is relatively optimal for predicting health seeking behavior.

With the rapid development of data mining technology, multi-view learning (MVL) has become a new research field, which has attracted wide attention of scholars at home and abroad. Multi-view learning is to combine multiple view data of the same entity for data classification, thereby improving learning performance. Previous multi-view research methods mainly concentrate on the relationship between different data views for classification problems. However, when the data is in high dimensions, it is necessary to perform feature selection in the multi-view data classification process. In this paper, we proposed a Multi-view Support Vector Machine Classification with Feature Selection (MSVMCFS) algorithm, which can not only classify multi-view data, but also select features for each view data in the process of classification. In the model, feature selection is performed by the l 1 norm sparsity regularization, and consistency and complementarity between the two views are maintained. To achieve the optimization goal, we adopt linear programming to solve the model. The experimental results on 30 binary datasets demonstrate the validity of the model.
