One chatbot per person: Creating personalized chatbots based on implicit user profiles

Personalized chatbots focus on endowing chatbots with a consistent personality to behave like real users, give more informative responses, and further act as personal assistants. Existing personalized approaches tried to incorporate several text descriptions as explicit user profiles. However, the acquisition of such explicit profiles is expensive and time-consuming, thus being impractical for large-scale real-world applications. Moreover, the restricted predefined profile neglects the language behavior of a real user and cannot be automatically updated together with the change of user interests. In this paper, we propose to learn implicit user profiles automatically from large-scale user dialogue history for building personalized chatbots. Specifically, leveraging the benefits of Transformer on language understanding, we train a personalized language model to construct a general user profile from the user's historical responses. To highlight the relevant historical responses to the input post, we further establish a key-value memory network of historical post-response pairs, and build a dynamic post-aware user profile. The dynamic profile mainly describes what and howthe user has responded to similar posts in history. To explicitly utilize users' frequently used words, we design a personalized decoder to fuse two decoding strategies, including generating a word from the generic vocabulary and copying one word from the user's personalized vocabulary. In this paper, we investigate an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-assistant air-to-ground communication system, where multiple UAVs form a UAV-enabled virtual antenna array (UVAA) to communicate with remote base stations by utilizing collaborative beamforming. To improve the work efficiency of the UVAA, we formulate a UAV-enabled collaborative beamforming multi-objective optimization problem (UCBMOP) to simultaneously maximize the transmission rate of the UVAA and minimize the energy consumption of all UAVs by optimizing the positions and excitation current weights of all UAVs. This problem is challenging because these two optimization objectives conflict with each other, and they are non-concave to the optimization variables. Moreover, the system is dynamic, and the cooperation among UAVs is complex, making traditional methods take much time to compute the optimization solution for a single task. In addition, as the task changes, the previously obtained solution will become obsolete and invalid. To handle these issues, we leverage the multi-agent deep reinforcement learning (MADRL) to address the UCBMOP. Specifically, we use the heterogeneous-agent trust region policy optimization (HATRPO) as the basic framework, and then propose an improved HATRPO algorithm, namely HATRPO-UCB, where three techniques are introduced to enhance the performance. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can learn a better strategy compared with other methods. The current streaming feature structure learning needs to be improved in the processing of nonlinear continuous data and the dynamic acquisition of causal structures. In this paper, we propose a causal structure learning algorithm, CANSF, based on the streaming feature of additive noise models. We have made three contributions. First, by using the information carried by the noise of nonlinear continuous data, we propose a real correlation identification method based on logarithmic likelihood, which can identify the real correlation and redundant features of target features, and dynamically select parent and child nodes for each feature. Second, based on regression analysis, a method to determine the causal direction is proposed, which can be used for dynamic orientation. Third, a learning method of causal structure based on streaming features is proposed, which can obtain the Causal structure diagram directly and dynamically.

This paper explores the size-invariance of evaluation metrics in Salient Object Detection (SOD), especially when multiple targets of diverse sizes co-exist in the same image. We observe that current metrics are size-sensitive, where larger objects are focused, and smaller ones tend to be ignored. We argue that the evaluation should be size-invariant because bias based on size is unjustified without additional semantic information. In pursuit of this, we propose a generic approach that evaluates each salient object separately and then combines the results, effectively alleviating the imbalance. We further develop an optimization framework tailored to this goal, achieving considerable improvements in detecting objects of different sizes. Theoretically, we provide evidence supporting the validity of our new metrics and present the generalization analysis of SOD. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. This paper investigates pervasiveness effect of information technology on the technological progress of logistics in China. Using panel data of 30-regions in China during 2008 to 2020, we propose both static and dynamic panel data models, and find both resource level and spreading rate of information technology have negative influences on technological progress of logistics. The resource level of information technology has a short-term effect on technological progress of logistics, whereas the spreading rate of information technology has a long-term effect. Moreover, the result reveals that the discordant problem of information construction of logistics between resource level and spreading rate cause the negative influence of information technology.

Article Reranking by Memory-Enhanced Key Sentence Matching for Detecting Previously Fact-Checked Claims

False claims that have been previously fact-checked can still spread on social media. To mitigate their continual spread, detecting previously fact-checked claims is indispensable. Given a claim, existing works retrieve fact-checking articles (FC-articles) for detection and focus on reranking candidate articles in the typical two-stage retrieval framework. However, their performance may be limited as they ignore the following characteristics of FC-articles: (1) claims are often quoted to describe the checked events, providing lexical information besides semantics;and (2) sentence templates to introduce or debunk claims are common across articles, providing pattern information. In this paper, we propose a novel reranker, MTM (Memoryenhanced Transformers for Matching), to rank FC-articles using key sentences selected using event (lexical and semantic) and pattern information. For event information, we propose to finetune the Transformer with regression of ROUGE. For pattern information, we generate pattern vectors as a memory bank to match with the parts containing patterns. By fusing event and pattern information, we select key sentences to represent an article and then predict if the article fact-checks the given claim using the claim, key sentences, and patterns. Experiments on two real-world datasets show that MTM outperforms existing methods. Human evaluation proves that MTM can capture key sentences for explanations. It is well-known that deep learning models are vulnerable to adversarial examples. Existing studies of adversarial training have made great progress against this challenge. As a typical trait, they often assume that the class distribution is overall balanced. However, long-tail datasets are ubiquitous in a wide spectrum of applications, where the amount of head class instances is larger than the tail classes. Under such a scenario, AUC is a much more reasonable metric than accuracy since it is insensitive toward class distribution. Motivated by this, we present an early trial to explore adversarial training methods to optimize AUC. The main challenge lies in that the positive and negative examples are tightly coupled in the objective function. As a direct result, one cannot generate adversarial examples without a full scan of the dataset. To address this issue, based on a concavity regularization scheme, we reformulate the AUC optimization problem as a saddle point problem, where the objective becomes an instance-wise function. This leads to an end-to-end training protocol. Furthermore, we provide a convergence guarantee of the proposed algorithm. Our analysis differs from the existing studies since the algorithm is asked to generate adversarial examples by calculating the gradient of a min-max problem. Finally, the extensive experimental results show the performance and robustness of our algorithm in three long-tail datasets. © 2022, CC BY.

In the future mobile communication system, inter-cell interference becomes a serious problem due to the intensive deployment of cells and terminals. Traditional interference coordination schemes take long time for optimization in ultra-dense networks. Meanwhile, due to the increase of factors affecting communication and in order to better meet the communication needs of each terminal, an interference coordination scheme needs to fully consider multiple characteristic parameters of the terminal, which will further increase the scheme’s computational time. Therefore, we should compress all the data through sparsification of parameters before optimization. There are many terminal parameters, and the essence of sparsification of parameters is to rank terminals. In this paper, a graph-based terminal ranking scheme is designed. First, each terminal can be represented by its multiple parameters. Then, all terminals are used as the vertexes in the graph to form a complete weighted graph, and edge weights represent the degree of dissimilarity between terminals. A ranking of terminals is obtained by finding a minimum Hamiltonian path in the graph. Finally, the ranking of all parameter sequences is obtained according to terminals ranking, which makes the sparsity of all parameter sequences better. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can accomplish sparsification of parameter sequences effectively, especially when the number of sequences increases. In addition, compared with the optimal coordination of traditional scheme, this scheme improves the fairness of the system while ensuring high system capacity, and dramatically reduces the computational time of interference coordination. © ICST Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications engineering 2020.

Older adults have diversified needs often associated with particular aging scenarios. People started to use aging scenarios to provide better Smart Eldercare services and develop innovative solutions. The problem is how to manage these scenarios effectively. To our best knowledge, this study is the first to develop a model to provide a structured framework of aging scenarios for research and teaching of eldercare services. Labeling aging scenarios can facilitate their collection, classification, and consolidation within this model. This study uses the automatic labeling approach to manage and utilize aging scenarios. Under each class, there are labels with different numbers and smaller granularity to reflect the requirements in each scenario case. Since a scenario case often involves more than one label, properly labeling it becomes a multi-label text classification problem. We extend the multi-label text classification model LSAN for labeling aging scenario cases. For evaluation purposes, we collected 938 scenario cases as the dataset. Experimental results show that our proposed method can achieve an average accuracy of 61.66%, better than other classical methods. © 2022, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
