At JJMA he provides support for ship integration of combat communication and navigation systems for both U. S. and international navy programs. Prior to emplqment at JJMA he was a project leader at Newport News Shipbuilding for general arrangement topside integration and ship systems for the FF 21 intemational frigate program and IPS- ICR combatant LSI: SWATH frigate and sea launch rocket platfmm concept studies. His knowledge of motor-generators comes through experience as an electrical division officer and an assistant ship repair officer in the U S. Navy. John F. Roesel Jr. is the inventor of the motor-generator technology discussed in this papel: He is president of Precise Power Corporation a company he founded to implement this technology In addition to his work on motor-generator application Mr. Roesel's newest product the Large Horsepower Single Phase Electric Motor was awarded the 1997 New Product Award in the small company categoly from the National Society of Profssional Engineers (NSPE). Richard T. Morash is marketing manager for Precise Power Corporation. In addition to co-authoring this paper Mr. Morash has significantly contributed in many published papers on the subject of variable pole machines. 作者: Calvert, JF Jeffrey F. Calvert P.E.:has spent the last twelve years of his career with the Aricraft Division and Training Systems Division of the Naval Air Warfare Center. His engineering experience includes research and development test and evaluation and training ssystems program for numberous military and research aricraft program. Currently Mr. Calvert is employed at the Training Systems Division in Orlando where he is applying his aero-sciences knowledge as a modeling and simulation subject matter expert. Mr. Calvert holds a bachelor of science degree in aerospace engineering and a master's degree in engineering science. He is a graduate of the United States Naval Test Pilot School under the Flight Test Engineering curriculum. He holds a general aviation pilot's licence and has special aircrew tectical aircraft Mr. Calvert is a registered professional engineer a member of the Society of Flight Test Engineers (SFTE) and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and the AIAA Modeling and Simulation Technical Committee. He has authored more than thirty technical reports and was the 1993 recipient of the AIAA Creater Philadelphia Chapter Award for Ground Testing and Simulation.

作者: KEELER, RN Dr. R. Norris Keeler has made substantial contributions to the Navy in a variety of capacities the most notable of which was as the first director of the Office of Naval Technology in 1975 in which he was responsible for managing and directing all of the Navy exploratory development programs. In more recent times Dr. Keeler has applied his extensive knowledge of physics and chemistry to make major contributions to the Navy's submarine laser communications development program. He was personally responsible for defining the baseline system “Yankee Blue” that was deployed in 1988. He also perfected the concept of using atomic resonance filters to enable the system to function effectively in day as well as night operations. Dr. Keeler continued to apply his physical optical expertise to the field of LIDAR for the purpose of locating and neutralizing antiship mines deployed by Iraq in the Persian Gulf. Since that time Dr. Keeler has designed optical command actuated underwater systems to neutralize anti-ship mines. Field trials of his concept will be conducted in the near future. Dr. Keeler has also continued to remain active in the area of high pressure physics wherein he is making significant contributions to the development of a unique high pressure high temperature process for manufacturing industrial diamonds. Dr. Keeler is now working on ways of producing large synthetic pure single crystal diamonds which would find wide application in defense programs and across the industry. Dr. Keeler embodies true scientific achievement in a myriad of areas through his role as a civilian engineer directly involved in contractor support of Navy systems engineering and research and development efforts. A distinguished scientist reserve officer and business executive Dr. Keeler blends all of these roles and his wide interests to provide innovation and technical achievement for the benefit of the Navy and the Nation. He is extremely well qualified and highly deserving of the American Society of Naval Engineers Gold Medal

作者: KING, JF BARTON, DE J. Fred King:is the manager of the Advanced Technology Department for Unisys in Reston Virginia. He earned his Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Houston in 1977. He has been principal investigator of research projects in knowledge engineering pattern recognition and heuristic problem-solving. Efforts include the development of a multi-temporal multispectral classifier for identifying graincrops using LANDSAT satellite imagery data for NASA. Also as a member of the research team for a NCI study with Baylor College of Medicine and NASA he helped develop techniques for detection of carcinoma using multispectral microphotometer scans of lung tissue. He established and became technical director of the AI Laboratory for Ford Aerospace where he developed expert scheduling modeling and knowledge acquisition systems for NASA. Since joining Unisys in 1985 he has led the development of object-oriented programming environments blackboard architectures data fusion techniques using neural networks and intelligent data base systems. Douglas E. Barton:is manager of Logistics Information Systems for Unisys in Reston Virginia. He earned his B.A. degree in computer science from the College of William and Mary in 1978 and did postgraduate work in London as a Drapers Company scholar. Since joining Unisys in 1981 his work has concentrated on program management and software engineering of large scale data base management systems and design and implementation of knowledge-based systems in planning and logistics. As chairman of the Logistics Data Subcommittee of the National Security Industrial Association (NSIA) he led an industry initiative which examined concepts in knowledge-based systems in military logistics. His responsibilities also include evaluation development and tailoring of software engineering standards and procedures for data base and knowledge-based systems. Mr. Chickering received his BS degree in marine engineering from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point New York in 1981 and his MBA degree in operations research and statistics from the University of Maryland in 1985. He is a licensed third assistant engineer of steam and motor vessels and a member of the Naval Reserve. Mr. Chickering's work includes the design and specification of several management information systems for the U.S. Navy including one that will automate the Navy's engineering drawing management system. Most recently Mr. Chickering has helped develop a workstation for the Navy's Paperless Ship Initiative. William B. Quails:is a management consultant with American Management Systems Inc. in Arlington Virginia. Mr. Quails received his BA degree in English from the Tulane University in New Orleans Louisiana in 1977 and his MPA degree in management science from the University of Georgia in 1982. Mr. Quails participated in the design and development of the U.S. Navy's Shipboard Non-tactical ADP Program II (SNAP II). Recently Mr. Quails has participated in the design and development of several knowledge-based computer systems using artificial intelligence programming technologies. Mr. Quails is a member of Pi Alpha Alpha an honorary public affairs and administration society.
