Intrusion attempts against Internet of Things(IoT)devices have significantly increased in the last few *** devices are now easy targets for hackers because of their built-in security *** a Self-Organizing Map(SOM)hybrid anomaly detection system for dimensionality reduction with the inherited nature of clustering and Extreme Gradient Boosting(XGBoost)for multi-class classification can improve network traffic intrusion *** proposed model is evaluated on the NSL-KDD *** hybrid approach outperforms the baseline line models,Multilayer perceptron model,and SOM-KNN(k-nearest neighbors)model in precision,recall,and F1-score,highlighting the proposed approach’s scalability,potential,adaptability,and real-world ***,this paper proposes a highly efficient deployment strategy for resource-constrained network *** results reveal that Precision,Recall,and F1-scores rise 10%-30% for the benign,probing,and Denial of Service(DoS)*** particular,the DoS,probe,and benign classes improved their F1-scores by 7.91%,32.62%,and 12.45%,respectively.

With the fast advances in quantum computing and its applications, traditional encryption methods employed by Internet of Things (IoT) healthcare devices are becoming increasingly vulnerable. As a result, Post-Quantum Cryptographic (PQC) algorithms have been used to protect patients’ private medical records. However, implementing and integrating PQC algorithms is challenging due to the resource restrictions of healthcare IoT systems. This research aims to evaluate the three PQC algorithms, NewHope, Kyber, and eXtended Merkle Signature Scheme (XMSS), regarding their efficiency, practicality, and drawbacks. The algorithms are implemented in wearable healthcare devices and are accordingly evaluated in terms of performance parameters, including encrypt and decrypt time, memory utilization, and power consumption. In addition, wearable healthcare devices have also been tested to determine secure changes in firmware and allow continuous patient monitoring. The result analysis reveals that when comparing encryption speed and energy economy, Kyber is better than NewHope, whereas XMSS shows better memory efficiency. These findings highlight how PQC algorithms can provide longevity to IoT-based healthcare environments in terms of security measures.

Over the years competence-based approaches in the field of formal and non-formal education are becoming more common and appear to offer the opportunity to develop flexible e-training programs that bare the potential to meet lifelong learning needs. For corporate training a competence-based approach may help in identifying competence gaps towards designing competence development programmes for improving employees' performance. In order to provide competence based training, a clear description of competences is needed. However, different organizations may define the same competences in different ways due to different organizational processes. Thus, enabling technologies and infrastructures for facilitating the synchronization for the creation of commonly identifiable competence descriptions are required In this paper, we argue that the use of web-based observatories as enabling technology for common description of competences can serve this purpose, and we present the TenC Competence Observatory demonstrating the potential of this approach.

During the last years m-learning has attracted the attention of technology-enhanced learning community mainly as a side effect of the growth of the mobile communications industry. While the educational added-value of m-learning is under investigation, technological efforts are much needed to align m-learning technologies with the current state-of-the-art specifications in TeL. Within this context, in this paper, we present initial evaluation results from the use of the SMILE PDA Learning Design Player, an open source software implementation for executing IMS Learning Design activities via mobile devices.

The need for providing learners with web-based learning content that match their accessibility needs and preferences, as well as providing ways to match learning content to user's devices has been identified as an important issue in accessible educational hypermedia literature. Several initiatives already exist trying to provide accessible web-based learning environments addressing a broad range of access needs and requirements. However, the design and development of web-based learning environments for people with special abilities has been addressed so far by the development of hypermedia and multimedia based educational content that is specially designed for the user targeted group, as well as the use of dedicated infrastructure supporting the delivery of learning content. Such approaches not only prevent their user groups (learners and their tutors) from accessing other available resources, but also keep them dependent from the specific e-learning platform, since the supported hypermedia content and learning scenarios are a-priori designed for the targeted user group. In this paper we address the need for an architectural definition Of a web-based learning system that satisfies the design steps and requirements identified following the current state-of-the-art accessibility approaches and techniques.

The need for e-learning systems that support a diverse set of pedagogical requirements has been identified as an interesting issue in web-based education. Until now. significant R&D effort has been devoted aiming towards web-based educational systems tailored to specific pedagogical approaches. As a response to pedagogical concerns towards standardization and interoperability needs, Educational Modeling Languages (EMLs) were introduced. These languages attempt to provide a formal way of representing the educational process in a commonly agreed manner. Nevertheless, still there exist very few web-based educational systems that support EMLs One of the key issues to be considered when designing web-based educational system to support EML to the adoption of easy-to-use tools for the definition of learning scenarios. In this paper we present the ASK Learning Designer Toolkit (ASK-LDI), a learning scenarios graphical authoring system that utilizes the IMS Learning Design specification and present preliminary evaluation results from its use. © 2006 IEEE.

Using instant messenger in real time communication is widespread worldwide. However, in the communication of using cross-language (Japanese-other languages) instant messaging, the use of colloquial expressions usually degrades the efficiency of communication. The contributions of our research can be split into two parts: (1) we analyzed the in-house conversation logs of business correspondence to obtain the cause of the failure of translation in cross-language instant messaging conversations;(2) we proposed an automatic system to detect the untranslatable colloquial expressions of Japanese verbs that are the most significant cause of the failure of Japanese-Chinese (and Japanese-English) machine translation in instant message conversation.
