CovKG: A Covid-19 knowledge Graph for enabling multidimensional analytics on Covid-19 epidemiological data considering spatiotemporal, environmental, health, and socioeconomic aspects

The Covid-19 pandemic is influenced by many environmental, health, and socioeconomic aspects such as air pollution, comorbidity, occupation, etc. To better manage future pandemics, decision-makers need comprehensive data on Covid-19 mortality and morbidity. Most Covid-19 data sources focus on spatiotemporal aspects, and existing research often overlook the combined impact of multiple interconnected factors. This study introduces a Covid-19 knowledge Graph (CovKG) derived from 20 data sources, enabling multidimensional analysis of epidemiological data, including time, location, temperature, comorbidity, occupation, and others. CovKG is modeled using RDF, connected to 10,951 external resources, and semantically enriched with data Cube (QB) and QB for OLAP (QB4OLAP) vocabularies to adhere to the FAIR principles and ensure OLAP compatibility. Finally, we perform a qualitative and comparative evaluation and extract statistical insights across multiple dimensions of Covid-19 epidemiology. When assessed, CovKG answers 100% of competency queries, outperforming other data stores that only answer 39%. Temporal Gated Face Alignment Network for Camera-Based Physiological Sensing

The remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) technique enables the estimation of vital signs such as heart rate by analyzing pulse-induced subtle skin color variation from facial videos. Robustly deriving cardiac pulse information with head motion (\eg, rotation and swings) interference, remains a critical challenge, as it inevitably introduces complex noise disturbances such as facial geometric deformation and head motions. Most existing approaches primarily focus on how to extract the weak pulse signals, overlooking the detrimental effects induced by such noises. In response to this, we propose a Temporal Gated Face Alignment Network (TGFAN) to adaptively counteract motion noise in long-term video sequences. As key modules in TGFAN, the bidirectional temporal face alignment block first captures inter-frame motion discrepancies and achieves temporal alignment, and then extracts motion-robust pulse features by spatiotemporal convolution. Furthermore, we also propose a temporal gating mechanism, which can dynamically guide motion-disturbed segments for face alignment to alleviate local temporal interference. Experimental evaluations on four public datasets demonstrate the superior performance of our proposed model under both intra-dataset and cross-dataset tests. Sentence semantic matching requires an agent to determine the semantic relation between two sentences, where much recent progress has been made by advancement of representation learning techniques and inspiration of human behaviors. Among all these methods, attention mechanism plays an essential role by selecting important parts effectively. However, current attention methods either focus on all the important parts in a static way or only select one important part at one attention step dynamically, which leaves a large space for further improvement. To this end, in this paper, we design a novel Dynamic Gaussian Attention Network (DGA-Net) to combine the advantages of current static and dynamic attention methods. More specifically, we first leverage pre-trained language model to encode the input sentences and construct semantic representations from a global perspective. Then, we develop a Dynamic Gaussian Attention (DGA) to dynamically capture the important parts and corresponding local contexts from a detailed perspective. Finally, we combine the global information and detailed local information together to decide the semantic relation of sentences comprehensively and precisely. Extensive experiments on two popular sentence semantic matching tasks demonstrate that our proposed DGA-Net is effective in improving the ability of attention mechanism. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Precise prediction of stock prices leads to more profits and more effective risk prevention, which is of great significance to both investors and regulators. Recent years, various kinds of information not directly-relevant with stock prices have received more attention, such as texts, images or connections. These external information has the potential of reflecting or influencing fluctuations, and thus, given the utilization of advanced analyzing techniques, the forecasting performance of stock prices could be promoted substantially. For instance, graph neural network models have expanded into many other disciplines including stock price prediction, and exhibited impressive representation learning ability. However, in stock markets, well-defined graphs are rarely seen and how to formulate the graph structures needed remains a challenging problem. Towards this end, this article presents a comprehensive overview of graph construction and graph learning in stock price prediction, by reviewing the existing studies, summarizing its general paradigm, special cases and proposing possible prospects. Our research not only systematically reveals the feasible ways of constructing graphs in financial markets, but also provides insights for further implementations of graph learning models into stock prediction tasks.

The Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) systems use sensors to detect the daily behavior of older adults and provide necessary assistance based on changes in their cognitive status and physical functions, thus enabling older adults to maintain their independence at home. However, the effectiveness of the AAL systems depends on the accuracy of the data provided by sensors. Namely, when a human error or a hardware failure occurs, the activity recognition model can become inaccurate. This inaccuracy hinders the identification of critical and potentially life-threatening activities. Although there are many methods for cleaning sensor data, there is no method for binary sensors deployed in smart homes. By considering noisy sensor events and unintentional forgetting of turning off the device, this paper proposes two clustering-based methods for denoising and splitting binary sensor events to address possible inaccuracy due to the two mentioned problems. The effectiveness of the proposed methods is verified by the experiments using four machine learning models and three real-world smart home datasets and adopting different sensor configurations. The experimental results demonstrate that compared to the original unprocessed datasets, by combining the two proposed methods, the average accuracy and F-measure are improved by 15.00% and 17.25%, respectively. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Traditional vision-based simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) technology cannot obtain the semantic information of the surrounding environment, which will cause the robot to fail to complete intelligent grasping, human-computer interaction, and other advanced decision tasks. There are many challenges to solve this problem, such as obtaining less semantic information of the environment with low precision and being unable to deal with dynamic objects in a real environment quickly and effectively. In this paper, a robust visual odometry using semantic information in complex dynamic scenes was designed. Specifically, we present a refined instance segmentation method based on the contextual information of the frame to improve the accuracy of segmentation. On this basis, a feature detection and elimination algorithm for dynamic objects based on instance-level semantic information is proposed to improve the localization accuracy of camera pose. We extensively evaluate our system on the public TUM data set and compare it with ORB-SLAM2 and other methods. Experiments show that our methods greatly improve the localization accuracy of the camera pose and the robustness of the system, which verifies that our system is effective in complex dynamic scenes. © 2021, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Recently, lightweight neural networks with different manual designs have presented a promising performance in single image super-resolution (SR). However, these designs rely on too much expert experience. To address this issue, we focus on searching a lightweight block for efficient and accurate image SR. Due to the frequent use of various residual blocks and attention mechanisms in SR methods, we propose the residual attention search block (RASB) which combines an operation search block (OSB) with an attention search block (ASB). The former is used to explore the suitable operation at the proper position, and the latter is applied to discover the optimal connection of various attention mechanisms. Moreover, we build the modified residual attention network (MRAN) with stacked found blocks and a refinement module. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our MRAN achieves a better trade-off against the state-of-the-art methods in terms of accuracy and model complexity. © 2021 IEEE

Estimating Noisy Class Posterior with Part-level Labels for Noisy Label Learning

In noisy label learning, estimating noisy class posteriors plays a fundamental role for developing consistent classifiers, as it forms the basis for estimating clean class posteriors and the transition matrix. Existing methods typically learn noisy class posteriors by training a classification model with noisy labels. However, when labels are incorrect, these models may be misled to overemphasize the feature parts that do not reflect the instance characteristics, resulting in significant errors in estimating noisy class posteriors. To address this issue, this paper proposes to augment the supervised information with part-level labels, encouraging the model to focus on and integrate richer information from various parts. Specifically, our method first partitions features into distinct parts by cropping instances, yielding part-level labels associated with these various parts. Subsequently, we introduce a novel single-to-multiple transition matrix to model the relationship between the noisy and part-level labels, which incorporates part-level labels into a classifier-consistent framework. Utilizing this framework with part-level labels, we can learn the noisy class posteriors more precisely by guiding the model to integrate information from various parts, ultimately improving the classification performance. Lattices are a commonly used structure for the representation and analysis of relational and ontological knowledge. In particular, the analysis of these requires a decomposition of a large and high-dimensional lattice into a set of understandably large parts. With the present work we propose /ordinal motifs/ as analytical units of meaning. We study these ordinal substructures (or standard scales) through order-embeddings and (full) scale-measures of formal contexts from the field of formal concept analysis. We show that the underlying decision problems are NP-complete and provide results on how one can incrementally identify ordinal motifs to save computational effort. Smart Contract Vulnerability Detection Based on Semantic Graph and Residual Graph Convolutional Networks with Edge Attention

It is imperative to assure the security of smart contracts via intelligent vulnerability detection tools before deploying smart contracts on blockchains. The existing deep learning-based approaches fail to effectively capture the rich syntax and semantic information embedded in smart contracts. In this paper, we detect smart contract vulnerabilities at the function level by constructing a novel semantic graph (SG) for each function and learning the SGs using a new graph convolutional network EA-RGCN. Our proposed method consists of three stages. In the first stage, we create the SG which characterizes rich data-data, instruction-instruction and instruction-data relationships in the function code. In the second stage, we propose EA-RGCN which contains three parts: node and edge representation via word2vec, content feature extraction with a residual GCN (RGCN) module, and semantic feature extraction using an edge attention (EA) module. Finally, we concatenate the code content features and the semantic features to obtain the global code feature and use a Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) to identify whether the function is vulnerable. We conduct experiments on the dataset constructed from real-world smart contracts. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed semantic graph and the EA-RGCN model can achieve superior performance. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.
