In the last years several drafts, recommendations and concepts for a graphical notation for Topic Maps have been published, but till today no graphical notation is generally approved and used in the Topic Maps community. In this paper we present GTMalpha as a conceptual new notation for a graphical representation of Topic Maps. Our objective is, to provide a practical usable notation, which allows a complete, consistent as well as easy to use graphical representation of any given topic map draft. GTMalpha provides a domain as well as a subject centric view and most important it considers the unique characteristics of the Topic Maps paradigm. This paper serves as a user oriented GTMalpha manual for ontology designers, domain experts as well as users.

Both Content analysis and link, analysis have its advantages in measuring relationships among documents. In this paper. we propose a new method to combine these two methods to compute the similarity of research papers so that we can do clustering of these papers more accurately. In order to improve the efficiency of similarity calculation, we develop a strategy to deal with the relationship graph separately, without affecting the accuracy. We also design an approach to assign different weights to different links to the papers, which can enhance the accuracy of similarity calculation. The experimental results conducted oil ACM data Set show that our new algorithm. S-SimRank, outperforms other algorithms.

The limited coverage of available Arabic language lexicons causes a serious challenge in Arabic cross language information retrieval. Translation in cross language information retrieval consists of assigning one of the semantic representation terms in the target language to the intended query. Despite the problem of the completeness of the dictionary, we also face the problem of which one of the translations proposed by the dictionary for each query term should be included in the query translations. In this paper, we describe the implementation and evaluation of an Arabic/English word translation disambiguation approach that is based on exploiting a large bilingual corpus and statistical co-occurrence to find the correct sense for the query translations terms. The correct word translations of the given query term are determined based on their cohesion with words in the training corpus and a special similarity score measure. The specific properties of the Arabic language that frequently hinder the correct match are taken into account.

We present a word sense disambiguation approach with application in machine translation from Arabic to English. The approach consists of two main steps: First, a natural language processing method that deals with the rich morphology of Arabic language and second, the translation including word sense disambiguation. The main innovative features of this approach are the adaptation of the Naive Bayesian approach with new features to consider the Arabic language properties and the exploitation of a large parallel corpus to find the correct sense based on its cohesion with words in the training corpus. We expect that the resulting system will overcome the problem of the absence of the vowel signs, which is the main reason for the translation ambiguity between Arabic and other languages.

Topology control is one of the most elementary topics in wireless sensor networks. Typically, most of the research only considered the bidirectional communication and symmetric weighted communication model, while the real wireless world contains not only bidirectional but also unidirectional communication links and asymmetric weighted communication model. In this paper, we present two heuristics for the minimum power topology control problem on general model, i.e., given a set of sensors in the Euclidean plane and a transmission power threshold for each directed pair of sensors, to find a power assignment for each sensor to achieve a strong connectivity with minimum total transmission power. Nowadays many popular Peer-to-Peer (P2P) systems suffer from the simultaneous attacks of various pollution, including file-targeted attack and index-targeted attack. However, to our knowledge, there is no model that takes both of them into consideration. In fact, the two attacks impact the effect of each other. It makes the models considering either kind of pollution only fail to accurately illustrate the actual pollution. In this paper, we develop a unified model to remedy the defect. Through the analysis from the perspective of user behavior, the two attacks are integrated into the unified model as two factors impacting users' choice of the files to download. The modeled file proliferation processes are consistent to those measured in real P2P systems. Moreover, the co-effect of the two attacks is also analyzed. The extremum point of co-effect is found, which corresponds to the most efficient attack of pollution. Further analysis of the model's accuracy requires the quantitative comparison between the modeled effects of pollution and the measured ones. Nonetheless, no such metric has ever been proposed, which also causes a lot of problems in evaluating the effect of pollution and anti-pollution techniques. To fix the deficiency, we propose several metrics to assess the effect of pollution, including abort ratio, average download time of unpolluted files, etc. These metrics estimate the effect of pollution from different aspects. They are applied to the analysis of pollution emulated by our unified model. The co-effect of pollution is captured by these metrics. Furthermore, the difference between our model and the previously developed ones is also reflected by them.
