Domain adaptation aims to transfer knowledge from the labeled source domain to an unlabeled target domain that follows a similar but different ***,adversarial-based methods have achieved remarkable success due to the excellent performance of domain-invariant feature presentation ***,the adversarial methods learn the transferability at the expense of the discriminability in feature representation,leading to low generalization to the target *** this end,we propose a Multi-view Feature Learning method for the Over-penalty in Adversarial Domain ***,multi-view representation learning is proposed to enrich the discriminative information contained in domain-invariant feature representation,which will counter the over-penalty for discriminability in adversarial ***,the class distribution in the intra-domain is proposed to replace that in the inter-domain to capture more discriminative information in the learning of transferrable *** experiments show that our method can improve the discriminability while maintaining transferability and exceeds the most advanced methods in the domain adaptation benchmark datasets.

Genealogical knowledge graphs depict the relationships of family networks and the development of family histories. They can help researchers to analyze and understand genealogical data, search for genealogical descendant paths, and explore the origins of a family. However, the heterogenous, autonomous, complex, and evolving natures of genealogical data bring challenges to the development of contemporary genealogical knowledge graph models. Applying existing methods to genealogical data may be improper because general knowledge graph models lack in-depth domain knowledge. In this paper, we propose a genealogical knowledge graph model named Huapu-KG that combines HAO intelligence (human intelligence + artificial intelligence + organizational intelligence) to implement the construction and applications of genealogical knowledge graphs. Furthermore, challenges in constructing genealogical knowledge graphs are demonstrated, and experiments conducted on real-world genealogical datasets verify the feasibility and effectiveness of our proposed model. © 1989-2012 IEEE.

Improving performance by creating a native join-index for OLAP

The performance of online analytical processing （OLAP） is critical for meeting the increasing requirements of massive volume analytical applications. Typical techniques, such as in-memory processing, column-storage, and join indexes focus on high perfor- mance storage media, efficient storage models, and reduced query processing. While they effectively perform OLAP applications, there is a vital limitation： main- memory database based OLAP （MMOLAP） cannot provide high performance for a large size data set. In this paper, we propose a novel memory dimension table model, in which the primary keys of the dimension table can be directly mapped to dimensional tuple addresses. To achieve higher performance of dimensional tuple access, we optimize our storage model for dimension tables based on OLAP query workload features. We present directly dimensional tuple accessing （DDTA） based join （DDTA- JOIN）, a technique to optimize query processing on the memory dimension table by direct dimensional tuple access. We also contribute by proposing an optimization of the predicate tree to shorten predicate operation length by pruning useless predicate processing. Our experimental results show that the DDTA-JOIN algorithm is superior to both simulated row-store main memory query processing and the open-source column-store main memory database MonetDB, thanks to the reduced join cost and simple yet efficient query processing.

Accuracy estimation of link-based similarity measures and its application

Link-based similarity measures play a significant role in many graph based applications. Consequently, mea- suring node similarity in a graph is a fundamental problem of graph data mining. Personalized PageRank （PPR） and Sim- Rank （SR） have emerged as the most popular and influen- tial link-based similarity measures. Recently, a novel link- based similarity measure, penetrating rank （P-Rank）, which enriches SR, was proposed. In practice, PPR, SR and P-Rank scores are calculated by iterative methods. As the number of iterations increases so does the overhead of the calcula- tion. The ideal solution is that computing similarity within the minimum number of iterations is sufficient to guaran- tee a desired accuracy. However, the existing upper bounds are too coarse to be useful in general. Therefore, we focus on designing an accurate and tight upper bounds for PPR, SR, and P-Rank in the paper. Our upper bounds are designed based on the following intuition： the smaller the difference between the two consecutive iteration steps is, the smaller the difference between the theoretical and iterative similar- ity scores becomes. Furthermore, we demonstrate the effec- tiveness of our upper bounds in the scenario of top-k similar nodes queries, where our upper bounds helps accelerate the speed of the query. We also run a comprehensive set of exper- iments on real world data sets to verify the effectiveness and efficiency of our upper bounds.

Clustering moving objects in spatial networks

Advances in wireless networks and positioning technologies (e.g., CPS) have enabled new data management applications that monitor moving objects. In such new applications, realtime data analysis such as clustering analysis is becoming one of the most important requirements. In this paper, we present the problem of clustering moving objects in spatial networks and propose a unified framework to address this problem. Due to the innate feature of continuously changing positions of moving objects, the clustering results dynamically change. By exploiting the unique features of road networks, our framework first introduces a notion of cluster block (CB) as the underlying clustering unit. We then divide the clustering process into the continuous maintenance of CBs and periodical construction of clusters with different criteria based on CBs. The algorithms for efficiently maintaining and organizing the CBs to construct clusters are proposed. Extensive experimental results show that our clustering framework achieves high efficiency for clustering moving objects in real road networks.

In data management systems, query processing on GPUs or distributed clusters have proven to be an effective method for high efficiency. However, the high PCIe data transfer overhead between CPUs and GPUs, and the communication cost between nodes in distributed systems are usually bottleneck for improving system performance. Recently, GPUDirect RDMA has been developed and has received a lot of attention. It contains the features of the RDMA and GPUDirect technologies, which provides new opportunities for optimizing query processing. In this paper, we revisit the join algorithm, one of the most important operators in query processing, with GPUDirect RDMA. Specifically, we explore the performance of the hash join and sort merge join with GPUDirect RDMA. We present a new design using GPUDirect RDMA to improve the data communication in distributed join algorithms on multi-GPU clusters. We propose a series of techniques, including multi-layer data partitioning, and adaptive data communication path selection for various transmission channels. Experiments show that the proposed distributed join algorithms using GPUDirect RDMA achieve up to 1.83x performance speedup compared to the state-of-the-art distributed join algorithms. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work for distributed GPU join algorithms. We believe that the insights and implications in this study shall shed lights on future researches using GPUDirect RDMA. © 2019 ACM.

OS-level virtualization incurs smaller start-up and run-time overhead than HAL-based virtualization and thus forms an important building block for developing fault-tolerant and intrusion-tolerant applications. A complete implementation of OS-level virtualization on the Windows platform requires virtualization of Windows services, such as system services like the Remote Procedure Call Server Service (RPCSS), because they are essentially extensions of the kernel. As Windows system services work very differently from their counterparts on UNIX-style OS, i.e., daemons, and many of their implementation details are proprietary, virtualizing Windows system services turned out to be the most challenging technical barrier for OS-level virtualization for the Windows platform. In this paper, we describe a general technique to virtualize Windows services, and demonstrate its effectiveness by applying it to successfully virtualize a set of important Windows system services and ordinary services on different versions of Windows OS, including RPCSS, DcomLaunch, IIS service group, Tlntsvr, MySQL, Apache2.2, CiSvc, ImapiService, etc. © 2011 ACM.

Previous methods on knowledge base question generation (KBQG) primarily focus on refining the quality of a single generated question. However, considering the remarkable paraphrasing ability of humans, we believe that diverse texts can express identical semantics through varied expressions. The above insights make diversifying question generation an intriguing task, where the first challenge is evaluation metrics for diversity. Current metrics inadequately assess the aforementioned diversity. They calculate the ratio of unique n-grams in the generated question, which tends to measure duplication rather than true diversity. Accordingly, we devise a new diversity evaluation metric, which measures the diversity among top-k generated questions for each instance while ensuring their relevance to the ground truth. Clearly, the second challenge is how to enhance diversifying question generation. To address this challenge, we introduce a dual model framework interwoven by two selection strategies to generate diverse questions leveraging external natural questions. The main idea of our dual framework is to extract more diverse expressions and integrate them into the generation model to enhance diversifying question generation. Extensive experiments on widely used benchmarks for KBQG show that our approach can outperform pre-trained language model baselines and text-davinci-003 in diversity while achieving comparable performance with ChatGPT. © 2024 ELRA Language Resource Association: CC BY-NC 4.0.

Existing methods on knowledge base question generation (KBQG) learn a one-size-fits-all model by training together all subgraphs without distinguishing the diverse semantics of subgraphs. In this work, we show that making use of the past experience on semantically similar subgraphs can reduce the learning difficulty and promote the performance of KBQG models. To achieve this, we propose a novel approach to model diverse subgraphs with meta-learner (DSM). Specifically, we devise a graph contrastive learning-based retriever to identify semantically similar subgraphs, so that we can construct the semantics-aware learning tasks for the meta-learner to learn semantics-specific and semantics-agnostic knowledge on and across these tasks. Extensive experiments on two widely-adopted benchmarks for KBQG show that DSM derives new state-of-the-art performance and benefits the question answering tasks as a means of data augmentation. Mining Repetitive Negative Sequential Patterns with Gap Constraints

Sequential pattern mining (SPM) with gap constraints (or repetitive SPM or tandem repeat discovery in bioinformatics) can find frequent repetitive subsequences satisfying gap constraints, which are called positive sequential patterns with gap constraints (PSPGs). However, classical SPM with gap constraints cannot find the frequent missing items in the PSPGs. To tackle this issue, this article explores negative sequential patterns with gap constraints (NSPGs). We propose an efficient NSPG-Miner algorithm that can mine both frequent PSPGs and NSPGs simultaneously. To effectively reduce candidate patterns, we propose a pattern join strategy with negative patterns which can generate both positive and negative candidate patterns at the same time. To calculate the support (frequency of occurrence) of a pattern in each sequence, we explore a NegPair algorithm that employs a key-value pair array structure to deal with the gap constraints and the negative items simultaneously and can avoid redundant rescanning of the original sequence, thus improving the efficiency of the algorithm. To report the performance of NSPG-Miner, 11 competitive algorithms and 11 datasets are employed. The experimental results not only validate the effectiveness of the strategies adopted by NSPG-Miner but also verify that NSPG-Miner can discover more valuable information than the state-of-the-art algorithms.
