Shipbuilding is an industry in which the change in demand has been extremely drastic. Therefore, it is important to develop a method of demand forecasting for new ships in order to realize sustainable development of the shipbuilding industry. Recently, sufficient actual data on the shipbuilding market has become available, and it is expected to define an accurate demand-forecasting model by using these data. In this study, the system dynamics model of previous study is improved by using latest market data, and optimal measures planning system for shipbuilding industry is developed based on the proposed model. Thereby, some simulations using the proposed demand-forecasting model and system are conducted, and the effectiveness of proposed model and system are shown. © 2017: The Royal Institution of Naval Architects.

The analysis of human activity data is an important research area in the context of ubiquitous and social environments. Using sensor data obtained by mobile devices, e. g., utilizing accelerometer sensors contained in mobile phones, behavioral patterns and models can then be obtained. However, the utilized models are often not simple to interpret by humans in order to facilitate assessment, evaluation and validation, e. g., in computational social science or in medical contexts. In this paper, we propose a novel approach for generating interpretable rule sets for classification: We present an adaptive framework for mining class association rules using subgroup discovery, and analyze different techniques for obtaining the final classifier. The approach is investigated in the context of human activity recognition. For our evaluation, we apply real-world activity data collected using mobile phone sensors. In recent years, natural disasters such as earthquakes and typhoons have occurred frequently in Japan. In the case of a large-scale disaster, prompt and efficient rescue activities are required to protect the lives of the victims. In response to such natural disasters, the government and local governments formulate disaster prevention plans while considering the characteristics of each region to prepare for the occurrence of disasters. The authors reported a rescue transportation simulator and analytical solution to estimate transportation performance considered in the disaster prevention plan. In the simulator, α vehicle set was introduced. However, the analytical solution did not consider the set. The α vehicle set is necessary to efficient vehicle dispatch, because the fastest vehicle that can reach the next rescue location is selected from the set. In this paper, the analytical solution is modified to estimate the effect of the α vehicle set. Using these tools, the analyses are carried out for a simple problem to validate the modified analytical solution. In addition, the tools are applied to a condition of disaster prevention plan of a city, envisaging a Tokyo Inland Earthquake. Transportation capability for the injured people is quantitatively clarified under multiple scenarios. The user of those analytical tools can consider more effective measures of rescue operation.

We present two distributed algorithms for the computation of a generalized Nash equilibrium in monotone games. The first algorithm follows from a forward-backward-forward operator splitting, while the second, which requires the pseudo-gradient mapping of the game to be cocoercive, follows from the forward-backward-half-forward operator splitting. Finally, we compare them with the distributed, preconditioned, forward-backward algorithm via numerical experiments.

Group formation and evolution are prominent topics in social contexts. This paper focuses on the analysis of group evolution events in networks of face-to-face proximity. We first analyze statistical properties of group evolution, e.g., individual activity and typical group sizes. After that, we define a set of specific group evolution events. These are analyzed in the context of an academic conference, where we provide different patterns according to phases of the conference. Specifically, we investigate group formation and evolution using real-world data collected at the LWA 2010 conference utilizing the Conferator system, and discuss patterns according to different phases of the conference. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2016.

Internetware can be formed through aggregation of Internetware entities bottom-up to satisfy the user's requirements. In the process, capability description of Internetware entity plays an important role. This paper proposes a capability description of Internetware entity based on environment ontology. The environment ontology includes environment entities and possible interactions with the environment entities in a particular domain. Tree-like hierarchical state machines are also included in the ontology to describe domain life-cycle of the environment entities. On the basis of the ideas, the capability of Internetware entity is embodied by interacting with environment entities and the changes of the environment entities during the interactions. Finally, this paper describes the matchmaking between capability descriptions of Internetware entities to support the discovery of Internetware entity. An example of online education course is given to illustrate the ideas.

ROLE OF SIMULATION IN RAPID PROTOTYPING FOR CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

作者： KING, JF BARTON, DE J. Fred King:is the manager of the Advanced Technology Department for Unisys in Reston Virginia. He earned his Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Houston in 1977. He has been principal investigator of research projects in knowledge engineering pattern recognition and heuristic problem-solving. Efforts include the development of a multi-temporal multispectral classifier for identifying graincrops using LANDSAT satellite imagery data for NASA. Also as a member of the research team for a NCI study with Baylor College of Medicine and NASA he helped develop techniques for detection of carcinoma using multispectral microphotometer scans of lung tissue. He established and became technical director of the AI Laboratory for Ford Aerospace where he developed expert scheduling modeling and knowledge acquisition systems for NASA. Since joining Unisys in 1985 he has led the development of object-oriented programming environments blackboard architectures data fusion techniques using neural networks and intelligent data base systems. Douglas E. Barton:is manager of Logistics Information Systems for Unisys in Reston Virginia. He earned his B.A. degree in computer science from the College of William and Mary in 1978 and did postgraduate work in London as a Drapers Company scholar. Since joining Unisys in 1981 his work has concentrated on program management and software engineering of large scale data base management systems and design and implementation of knowledge-based systems in planning and logistics. As chairman of the Logistics Data Subcommittee of the National Security Industrial Association (NSIA) he led an industry initiative which examined concepts in knowledge-based systems in military logistics. His responsibilities also include evaluation development and tailoring of software engineering standards and procedures for data base and knowledge-based systems. A valuable technique during concept development is rapid prototyping of software for key design components. This approach is particularly useful when the optimum design approach is not readily apparent or several known alternatives need to be rapidly evaluated. A problem inherent in rapid prototyping is the lack of a "target system" with which to interface. Some alternatives are to develop test driver libraries, integrate the prototype with an existing working simulator, or build one for the specific problem. This paper presents a unique approach to concept development using rapid prototyping for concept development and scenario-based simulation for concept verification. The rapid prototyping environment, derived from artificial intelligence technology, is based on a blackboard architecture. The rapid prototype simulation capability is provided through an object-oriented modeling environment. It is shown how both simulation and blackboard technologies are used collectively to rapidly gain insight into a tenacious problem. A specific example will be discussed where this approach was used to evolve the logic of a mission controller for an autonomous underwater vehicle.

Neural networks for semantic gaze analysis in XR settings

Virtual-reality (VR) and augmented-reality (AR) technology is increasingly combined with eye-tracking. This combination broadens both fields and opens up new areas of application, in which visual perception and related cognitive processes can be studied in interactive but still well controlled settings. However, performing a semantic gaze analysis of eye-tracking data from interactive three-dimensional scenes is a resource-intense task, which so far has been an obstacle to economic use. In this paper we present a novel approach which minimizes time and information necessary to annotate volumes of interest (VOIs) by using techniques from object recognition. To do so, we train convolutional neural networks (CNNs) on synthetic data sets derived from virtual models using image augmentation techniques. We evaluate our method in real and virtual environments, showing that the method can compete with state-of-the-art approaches, while not relying on additional markers or preexisting databases but instead offering cross-platform *** Codes 68T45 Copyright © 2021, The Authors. A relaxed-inertial forward-backward-forward algorithm for stochastic generalized Nash equilibrium seeking

In this paper we propose a new operator splitting algorithm for distributed Nash equilibrium seeking under stochastic uncertainty, featuring relaxation and inertial effects. Our work is inspired by recent deterministic operator splitting methods, designed for solving structured monotone inclusion problems. The algorithm is derived from a forward-backward-forward scheme for solving structured monotone inclusion problems featuring a Lipschitz continuous and monotone game operator. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first distributed (generalized) Nash equilibrium seeking algorithm featuring acceleration techniques in stochastic Nash games without assuming cocoercivity. Numerical examples illustrate the effect of inertia and relaxation on the performance of our proposed algorithm. © 2021, CC BY.

Drawing Order Diagrams Through Two-Dimension Extension

Ordinal real-world data such as concept hierarchies, ontologies, genealogies, or task dependencies in scheduling often has the property to not only contain pairwise comparable, but also incomparable elements. Order diagrams provide an important tool for understanding and thus discovering knowledge in such data. Easily readable drawings of such order diagrams are hard to come by, even for small ordered sets. Many attempts were made to transfer classical graph drawing approaches to order diagrams. Although these methods produce satisfying results for some ordered sets, they unfortunately perform poorly in general. In this work, we present the novel algorithm DimDraw to decompose an ordered set (e.g., a concept hierarchy) in linear orders and to produce a corresponding order diagram. This algorithm is based on a relation between the dimension of an ordered set and the bipartiteness of its transitive incompatibility graph. To evaluate the quality of the algorithm, a user study was conducted where generated drawings were compared with ones from state-of-the-art drawing algorithms. © 2023 Brown University.
