Synthetic data generation is one approach for sharing individual-level data. However, to meet legislative requirements, it is necessary to demonstrate that the individuals’ privacy is adequately protected. There is no consolidated standard for measuring privacy in synthetic data. Through an expert panel and consensus process, we developed a framework for evaluating privacy in synthetic data. Our findings indicate that current similarity metrics fail to measure identity disclosure, and their use is discouraged. For differentially private synthetic data, a privacy budget other than close to zero was not considered interpretable. There was consensus on the importance of membership and attribute disclosure, both of which involve inferring personal information about an individual without necessarily revealing their identity. The resultant framework provides precise recommendations for metrics that address these types of disclosures effectively. Our findings further present specific opportunities for future research that can help with widespread adoption of synthetic data. © 2025, CC BY.

In previous work, we presented an applicability of soft set theory for decision making of patients suspected influenza. The proposed technique is based on maximal supported objects by parameters. At this stage of the research, results are presented and discussed from a qualitative point of view against recent soft decision making techniques through an artificial dataset. In this paper, we present an extended application of our soft set-based decision making through a Boolean valued information system from a dataset of patients suspected ILI (Influenza-Like Illness). Using soft set theory and maximal symptoms co-occurences in patients, we explore how soft set-based decision making technique can be used to reduce the number of dispensable symptoms and further make a correct and fast decision. The result of this work can be used for recommendation of decision making based on the clusters decision captured. Finally, this technique may potentially contribute to lowering the complexity of medical decision making without loss of original information.

We present a novel concept for an audience voting system for judged sports events. It is based on wireless wearable motion sensors utilizing the natural behaviour of sports spectators -clapping and cheering. This paper describes initial results from a user study that guided our design process. We further present two preliminary prototypes focusing on hardware and design feasibility respectively. Results confirm our assumption that the system does not provide objective results, but has the potential to increase the spectator experience by giving audience members the feeling of being part of the voting process.

There are data mining methodologies for business intelligence (DM-BI) projects that highlight the importance of planning an ordered, documented, consistent and traceable requirement’s elicitation throughout the entire project. However, the classical software engineering approach is not completely suitable for DM-BI projects because it neglects the requirements specification aspects of projects. This article focuses on identifying concepts for understand DM-BI project domain from DM-BI field experience, including how requirements can be educed by a proposed DM-BI project requirements elicitation process and how they can be documented by a template set. © 2008, IFIP International Federation for Information Processing. Accelerating regional economic growth is needed to be able to catch up with a region, especially if the region has economic potential, especially in terms of natural capital, such as a beautiful environment. However, in practice, a development process will experience obstacles as an inseparable part. This condition certainly requires appropriate treatment efforts based on empirical evidence data. This also happened to West Lombok. Where in fact the regions that get the opportunity to become Smart City pilots certainly have a positive impact, but the challenges that must be carried out also go hand in hand with the process of implementing these efforts. Referring to this background, the purpose of this research is to be able to explore and analyze the challenges experienced by West Lombok in implementing the Smart City program in its region. The method used is qualitative with data collection techniques in the form of documentation studies, observations, interviews, and focus group discussions. This study involved 50 informants with various backgrounds but still in accordance with the characteristics of the informants determined by the researcher through the use of purposive sampling technique. The results of this study are that there are four challenges that need to get more attention from the local government of West Lombok and its stakeholders as an effort to realize West Lombok as a smart city. The four challenges include policy, infrastructure, human capital, and environment. The need for strategic efforts carried out by West Lombok to be able to encourage the achievement of the target of becoming a smart city in Indonesia, especially in West Nusa Tenggara Province.

This paper describes Traffic Lights Panel (TLP) as a useful interpretation-oriented tool for clustering results, suitable for helping the domain experts to induce a conceptualization of the resulting profiles. Till now, the TLP is manually derived from the clustering results, but it has been well accepted by the domain experts of several real applications as a very helpful contribution to understand the classes' meaning and improve reliable decision-making. Here, a proposal to automatically construction of TLP is presented trying to mimic the real process that the analyst performs. Two criteria based on different central trend statistics of the variables inside a class are introduced, tested with a real case study in Neurorehabilitation field and compared. Finally, uncertainty concerning TLP is analyzed;the annotated TLP (aTLP) is proposed to visualize uncertainty associated to the decisions derived from TLP, thus enhancing robustness of TLP as a supporting tool in decision-making. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

This paper discusses on Malay language anaphor and antecedent candidate determination using the knowledge-poor techniques. The process to determine the candidate for anaphor and antecedent is important because the usage of pronouns in a text is not always considered as an anaphor. Sometimes pronoun referred to something outside the context or does not refer to any situation in the text. Such a situation is also exhibited in the use of pronouns in Malay language. Therefore, certain rules must be issued to identify the antecedent and anaphor candidate. Pronoun usage in Malay language does indicate the gender of the person, but to distinguish the status of the person such as imperial family, honorable people and common people. Thus, generic rules that have been used by other languages cannot simply be adapted for Malay language. The proposed solution concerns with the distance of each candidate and location of the Subject-Verb-Object (SVO) used to determine the anaphor candidate. As such, syntactic information, semantic information and distance of anaphor-antecedent are seen important to determine the antecedent candidate. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.
