Agent coordination and cooperation co-exist in a multi-agent system (MAS), and are cognitively linked. This link is further emphasized by incorporating their atomic composition with their ability to perceive and gather information from the environment around them. To be able to possess enhanced situational awareness in an uncertain environment means improved tactical responses by combat crew. From each of their definitions and current implementations, we show how the relationship between the Belief-Desire-Intention, or BDI framework and the Observe-Orient-Decide-Act, or OODA loop can enable the use of Coordinative Cooperation within the Agent Coordination and Cooperation Cognitive Model, or AC3M. More importantly, we show the relationship between coordination, cooperation, BDI and OODA and how this relationship can improve cognitive modeling in uncertain environments. This paper also discusses the current developments of the model and how the BDI and OODA frameworks can affect coordination and cooperation within a MAS. We recommend how these concepts can be designed and implemented for uncertain environments. © 2008 IEEE.

We were very pleased to once again extend to the delegates and, we are pleased to th say, our friends the warmest of welcomes to the 8 International Conference on knowledge-based intelligent Information and engineering systems at Wellington - stitute of Technology in Wellington, New Zealand. The KES conferences attract a wide range of interest. The broad focus of the c- ference series is the theory and applications of computational intelligence and em- gent technologies. Once purely a research field, intelligent systems have advanced to the point where their abilities have been incorporated into many conventional appli- tion areas. The quest to encapsulate human knowledge and capabilities in domains such as reasoning, problem solving, sensory analysis, and other complex areas has been avidly pursued. This is because it has been demonstrated that these abilities have definite practical applications. The techniques long ago reached the point where they are being exploited to provide commercial advantages for companies and real beneficial effects on profits. KES 2004 provided a valuable mechanism for delegates to obtain a profound view of the latest intelligent systems research into a range of - gorithms, tools and techniques. KES 2004 also gave delegates the chance to come into contact with those applying intelligent systems in diverse commercial areas. The combination of theory and practice represents a uniquely valuable opportunity for - preciating the full spectrum of intelligent-systems activity and the “state of the art”.

This research paper reports the work performed to improve reliability and maintainability of avionics systems using an intelligent decision support system (IDSS). The research takes on a systems approach to integrate information from a maintenance management system (MMS), logistic management system (LMS) and engineering management system (EMS). In order to understand the shortcomings of the existing system, the prevalent practices and methodologies are researched. The paper reports the significant improvements made by integrating autonomous information sources as knowledge into the IDSS.

This paper provides an alternative approach to the co-operative multi-robot path planning problem using parallel differential evolution algorithms. Both centralized and distributed realizations for multi-robot path planning have been studied, and the performances of the methods have been compared with respect to a few pre-defined yardsticks. The distributed approach to this problem out-performs its centralized version for multi-robot planning. Relative performance of the distributed version of the differential evolution algorithm has been studied with varying numbers of robots and obstacles. The distributed version of the algorithm is also compared with a PSO-based realization, and the results are competitive.

This paper describes a new approach for predicting tertiary structure of protein using artificial neural network and particle swarm optimization technique. The paper is concetrated around the well known Ab-initio approach for global minimisation of energy function. It predicts the native structure of protein by finding the main chain dihedral angles; through the optimization of CHARMM energy function, using particle swarm optimization algorithm. Side chain dihedral angle are predicted using three layered artificial neural network, realised with back propagation algorithm. This approach has merit as it reduces the dimensionality of the search space and computationally outperforms all other classical technique in atleast 80% cases.

The paper presents an analysis of chaos, limit cycles and stability in the antigen-antibody interactive dynamics. Both cooperation and competition of antibodies are considered in the dynamics. The classical approach of Lyapunov has been employed here for the stability analysis of the dynamics. Computer simulations have been undertaken to support the results of the analysis. Both temporal behaviors of the antibodies and their phase portraits have been given to study their chaotic, limit cyclic and stable behavior. Results of stability analysis of the dynamics have been applied in a garbage cleaning problem by a mobile robot.
