This study examines a scenario combining a prolonged solar minimum, like the historical Maunder Minimum, with the increased CO2 emissions characteristic of the industrial era. Two scenarios were developed in NCAR/CESM 2.0 implemented at LAMMOC/UFF to create simulations from 1850 to 2000, it contrasts differing radiative forcings from 1950 onward—one reflecting actual observed changes, including rising CO2 levels, and the other simulating a decrease in solar output like that during the Maunder Minimum but with continued CO2 growth. The results were validated against ERA5 data and 20th-century reanalysis. By calculating meridional averages at 30-degree latitude intervals, distinct regional impacts of the Maunder Minimum were identified. Notably the simulated Maunder Minimum reduced global warming by and even mitigated 70 % in HS in the last decade of the 20th century. However, this attenuation was lower in the HN, especially in the 30–60N region where no attenuation was observed.

The purpose of this research is the development of a prototype balloon anchored to a vessel for inspection of offshore platforms and monitoring of environmental damage with the use of solar panels, infrared camera and controlled by an Arduino platform. The possible environmental damage in offshore platforms require continuous monitoring as prevention and for repairs in case of accident, in this study the tool used for monitoring must provide continuous and uninterrupted monitoring of activities at a lower cost of operation. The method applied was the use of a balloon anchored to a vessel for continuous monitoring using an infrared camera as prevention and assistance for repairs in case of accidents occurring in open sea and various other situations in environmental damage inspections. The balloon will use helium gas for floating and a powertrain only for forced positioning, as the most part of the time it will be conducted with the wind to the sides, up and down through remotely controlled rudder. The use of other monitoring devices show several limitations when compared to the use of balloons, their great advantage is the autonomy compared to a drone (approximately 20 minutes) and the cost of operating a helicopter, thus, the cost-benefit enables its construction. The use of solar panels as a power source for batteries is an efficient solution for keeping its load, being applied for the continuous operation of equipment. The Arduino platform is a resource for various applications and its use in this prototype applies for the control and management of the following components that will be part of the monitoring balloon: solar plates, various sensors, GPS, motors and servo motors. © 2016, Offshore Technology Conference

This work aims to build a visual simulator of low cost remotely operated vehicle (ROV) to be used as part of the initial training and qualification of new operators in the maintenance of wellheads, Christmas trees and monitoring the seabed. Besides the simulation of normal operation of the machine, the most common defects and failures that occur during operation will be implemented. The use of simulation in Virtual Reality in a three-dimensional synthetic environment was used enabling the operator to make choices, manipulate and visualize the equipment. The software used in the simulator allowed its development without the need of traditional programming knowledge. In this particular case the programming was done in a visual way by connecting pre-programmed blocks, thus enabling the drastic reduction of the development time of its application and eventual costs. The use of simulators to complement traditional training has been proven an efficient tool in the training of professionals in various fields. In some case studies previously analyzed, the comparison to traditional training methods in offshore operations and the excellent cost-benefit allows its development. The development of the simulator aims beyond a virtual training, but also the possibility of offering a low-cost tool compared to training with use of real equipment and even with other similar simulators already developed. © 2016, Offshore Technology Conference

This paper presents a study on the use of industrial internet of things (IIoT), the use of IIot in the current Brazilian industry context, its basic differences from internet of things (IoT) and its expansion possibilities pointing out some challenges related to a new approach within the industry. The complex interconnection which is made possible through the IIoT is able to optimise resources and reduce exponentially the costs of production processes in most stages and is gradually changing the direction of society in labour relations. These advances in manufacturing processes are feasible as the internet of things is not simply inserting intelligence in equipment, but allowing interconnection, reconfiguring functions and anticipating loss of productivity or failures that might occur in real-time. Within this context, the IIoT can be understood as a broad and complex concept that encompasses asset and performance management areas, availability of increased data and intelligent corporate. © 2017 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

This paper presents the prototype development of an ecological vessel on a reduced scale as a preliminary test for building a final version to remove floating solid waste that pollute the surface of the Fund o Island Canal and later, the Guanabara Bay. Due to the immense amount of floating polluting solid waste dumped into the Fund o Island Canal by companies and by the surrounding population, which later spread throughout the Guanabara Bay, some kind of intervention is needed to encourage improvements in the navigation of boats, since the wastes (PET bottles, supermarket packaging, etc.) clog the bars where the suction of water used for cooling of marine engines is made, in addition to the environmental impact caused by this polluting waste in the Fund o Island Canal, besides affecting the ecosystem of the region. At first, a small scale prototype1 will be developed for testing and validation of the model. The prototype hull will be built using a CNC2 milling and/or 3D printer3. The main idea of the project is the construction of a fast to build vessel, seamless, powered by solar and wind energy. The solution employed in this project already has other similar models in use. As differential, the aim is to further reduce the costs and improve its construction thereby enabling the rapid replication of the model. As a result, it is expected the construction of a small scale ecological vessel prototype for picking up floating waste automatically with low cost of operation to further remove the floating solid waste that pollute the surface of the Fund o Island Canal and surroundings using the Arduino platform and accessories: shields, solar panels, GPS, stepper motor, servo motors, AC motor, compass, ESC (motor speed regulator), battery, etc. Copyright 2015, Offshore Technology Conference.

This paper is about the study about the Internet of things (IoT) applications using Big Data (or "data analytics ") and the virtualization process. The Internet of things is at the beginning, but is expected that in the near future will transform the world, creating a giant network of devices and machines globally connected, aggressively increasing communication and data exchange, the IoT is still seen as fiction, but in reality this world already exists through numerous devices present in our daily lives: the "wearables" (term meaning technologies to wear) like tablets, smartphones, smart watches and bracelets. With the use of IoT comes the solution of various problems, but through this intense communication another problem is created, the huge volume of collected data. This problem is being solved by Big Data, that handles structured and unstructured data.

This study was designed to verify the evidence of validity, through: 1) literature review about ushiro-ukemi pedagogical progression. 2) An expert performed the movement and it was recorded to develop the animation. 3) Finally, an evaluation of 3D character animations processes by other experts' opinions. 13 experts have evaluated three affirmatives through the Likert scale, and answered one question, also in ordinal scale, about the quality of the animation. The calculated medians for the first, second and third affirmatives were 5, 5 and 5 (fully agree), but, only for the 3rd affirmative about sitting ushiro-ukemi, the median was 4 (agree). The percentage of answers that scored higher than agree varied from 84,6 to 100%. The median of the 3D character animation was very good (4) and the percentage of acceptance was 100% (≥ good). The found definitional evidence of validity for these animations ensured their application in a learning material. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

This paper presents a method by which the results of the generated simulation of a logical 3-D model using VR Techniques may be developed and that this model may be used as a training tool. The model contains components that the user may employ to observe its dynamics in a simple and operational manner. The floor plan of this project was based on the original blueprints of the Institute of Thoracic Diseases, a part of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). This methodology is easily applied to day-to-day situations.
