The growth of digital content generation and its access by the general public have, for the past few years, promoted the importance of resources' metadata, and enhanced the debate on their generation and quality. The improvement of new technologies and users needs have led to new metadata generation practices, which include the author-generated metadata. By studying the current literature on the subject we analyzed the author-generated metadata quality used on a given IPTV service. From the results of this study we propose an alternative methodology for insertion of metadata by the service user, where an auto-complete engine is applied aiming to enhance the system's metadata quality. © 2010 i-Society.

Differentiated services provision according to clients or applications is an added feature that network operators ambition to fully provide. One of the possible approaches is to map DiffServ into MPLS based network. However in an IP over WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) network data flow traverse multiple layers and, therefore, Class-Type information from the MPLS DiffServ layer is eventually lost. Besides, with the implement of a Path Computation Element (PCE) on multi-layer and multi-domain networks, the bandwidth constraints used to differentiate services are no longer applied. This paper presents a proposal for a QoS DiffServ approach applied on PCE as a traffic grooming technique for WDM core networks and the problematic involved on the application of this technology on multilayer and multi-domain networks. © 2011 IEEE.

The virtual circuit characteristic of MPLS and GMPLS architectures has enabled the implement of Traffic Engineering (TE) and Differentiated Services (Diff-Serv) profile to networks. Both schemes are possible by the application of preemption policies and priority of path assignment. With the advent of Path Computation Element (PCE) the routing task can be centralized and properly (re-)designed to accommodate MPLS' and GMPLS' Diff-Serv and TE characteristics. However, as a centralized system, the complex characteristics of heterogeneous networks and the extra data involved on TE and Diff-Serv constrains and requirements for path computations may overload the PCEs' processing capacity and radically increase the number of PCEP control messages exchanged, jeopardizing the scalability of the system in general. In this article we present an analysis on the current standardized PCE tools in a WDM network in terms of the number of control messages exchanged impact on the system and its optimization performance. © 2012 IEEE.

Smart mobility is an emerging concept characterized by the use of disruptive technologies, such as cloud computing, Big Data and artificial intelligence. In this paper we propose a FIWARE-based component focus on improving the data analysis process, from data generated in services and applications existing in the smart mobility context. Our proposal aims to provide features that allows the development of solutions from the industry 4.0 concept and smart cities. Firstly, we briefly contextualize these terms, then we describe the characteristics and architectural design of our FIWARE component, highlighting how it can improve the support to smart services and applications. We also present real application scenarios where this component can be applied, specially considering the Brazilian cities. © 2017 IEEE.

Considering video transmission over an ATM network for a video on demand system, we propose a server of quality (SoQ) that has the main function of fitting the video transmission rate to the available network bandwidth. The SoQ uses a "backpropagation" neural network to fit the MPEG quantization coefficients in a nonlinear way. Here are shown the SoQ specification and the results obtained from its main module implementation.

Service identities are crucial for authentication and access control, ensuring that only authorized services access specific resources. The SPIFFE framework addresses workload identity management and authentication effectively but needs support for solutions (e.g., extensible tokens) that fine-granular authorization mechanisms in distributed scenarios can use. In this context, we present the Lightweight SVID (LSVID), an identity document in JSON format that can be extended and used as a token. As an extensible token, Lightweight SVID (LSVID) enables features such as delegation, attenuation, and traceability, enhancing its flexibility and applicability. Our approach provides efficient handling of token extensions and validations, demonstrated through a proof-of-concept implemented in Go. Baseline results indicate that LSVID critical operations are efficient, with processing times in the microsecond range, offering significant functional advantages over the traditional JWT-SVIDs, one of two key security documents from SPIFFE.

Current Internet traffic comprises diverse service requirements. Service providers differentiate connections characteristics according to demand's requirements and pricing policy. In this paper we propose a differentiated service methodology that implements constrained resources allocation according to demand's priority level for WDM networks. With our proposed mechanism higher priority connections are guaranteed a larger amount of resources, still, lower priority demands are guaranteed a minimum level of service.
