Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) reconstructs the conductivity images of an object based on the voltages and the currents at the surface of the object. Among the clinical applications of EIT thorax imaging, brain function monitoring and breast cancer screening. However, EIT suffers from a poor signal-to-noise ratio and spatial resolution. To improve the quality of reconstructed images and provide clear information about the structure, the paper proposes to include prior knowledge about the structure from MRI. The proposed techniques could be very promising with more work. To illustrate this technique in this paper, eight electrodes with the adjacent current pattern were employed in this research. For each gesture, forty data points are recorded. The Gauss-Newton and Back-Projection algorithms are used for image reconstruction with prior knowledge of the human forearm from MRI images. The resultant contours of the Forearm, Ulna, and Radius have been used to build the mesh. In the Gauss-Newton algorithm, the results reveal that structural information improves image quality and conductivity distribution, particularly in the region of two bones. In addition, the reconstructed images using the Gauss-Newton algorithm performed better than images reconstructed using the back-projection algorithm. © 2022 IEEE.

Grid codes evolve to address emerging challenges posed by the increasing integration of Renewable Energy Sources (RESs). This paper discusses voltage sag incidents and common classification approaches. It also offers a concise overview of the latest European grid codes governing inverter-based RESs and power generators connected asynchronously (Power Park Modules) during voltage sag occurrences. To assess the power system's performance in unbalanced voltage sag situations, we propose a control strategy inspired by recent German grid codes. Simulation outcomes substantiate the power system's ability to provide voltage support when employing the proposed control strategy. © 2023 IEEE.

With the increasing development of intelligent robots and wearable electronics,the demand for high-performance flexible energy storage devices is drastically *** this study,flexible symmetric microsupercapacitors(MSCs)that could operate in a wide working voltage window were developed by combining laser-direct-writing graphene(LG)electrodes with a phosphoric acid-nonionic surfactant liquid crystal(PA-NI LC)gel *** increase the flexibility and enhance the conformal ability of the MSC devices to anisotropic surfaces,after the interdigitated LG formed on the polyimide(PI)film surface,the devices were further transferred onto a flexible,stretchable and transparent polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS)substrate;this substrate displayed favorable flexibility and mechanical characteristics in the bending ***,the electrochemical performances of the symmetric MSCs with various electrode widths(300,400,500 and 600μm)were *** findings revealed that symmetric MSC devices could operate in a large voltage range(0–1.5 V);additionally,the device with a 300μm electrode width(MSC-300)exhibited the largest areal capacitance of 2.3 mF cm^(−2)at 0.07 mA cm^(−2)and an areal(volumetric)energy density of 0.72μWh cm−2(0.36 mWh cm^(−3))at 55.07μWcm−2(27.54mWcm−3),along with favorable mechanical and cycling *** charging for~20 s,two MSC-300 devices connected in series could supply energy to a calculator to operate for~130 s,showing its practical application potential as an energy storage ***,the device displayed favorable reversibility,stability and *** 12 months of aging in air at room temperature,its electrochemical performance was not altered,and after charging-discharging measurements for 5000 cycles at 0.07 mA cm^(−2),~93.6%of the areal capacitance was still retained;these results demonstrated its practical long-term application potential as an energy storage device.

The increasing availability of digitized historical documents has sparked a need for effective information processing tools to extract the valuable information contained within them. Word spotting, an area of focus in historical document analysis, involves identifying specific words within images of documents. In this paper, we propose a novel approach for word spotting in historical Arabic documents, utilizing improved feature representations for learning word images. More precisely, we put forward an end-to-end approach for generating word image descriptors, based on the Siamese vision transformer architectures. The model learning is guided by a contrastive loss objective. Additionally, we carry out transfer learning techniques by leveraging knowledge acquired from two distinct source domains to generalize model learning. The proposed approach utilizes the embedding space to evolve the word spotting system by projecting the query word image and all reference word images into the embedding space, where their similarity is determined based on their corresponding embedding vectors. Our method is evaluated on the historical Arabic VML-HD dataset and the results indicate that our approach significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods.

Cable networks are essential in modern systems, but they can develop defects due to environmental factors or wear, leading to signal degradation or reduced performance. These defects cause signal reflections in transmission lines due to impedance mismatches, either within the cables or between the cables and their port loads. Such reflections can result from junctions, soft faults (partial impedance changes), or hard faults, i.e., open or short circuits. Diagnosing these faults, especially using Time-Domain Reflectometry (TDR), requires accurately modeling how impedance mismatches affect signal reflections. This paper presents a model that takes a comprehensive approach to addressing various sources of impedance mismatches. It covers junctions, soft and hard faults, and mismatches between cables and connected devices. The model's thoroughness is evident in its ability to handle complex scenarios such as heterogeneous junctions, soft faults, multi-path reflections, input port reflections, and multi-load reflections. Additionally, it evaluates signal reflection measurability based on the components of the propagation path, further enhancing its robustness. The model's accuracy is validated through simulations using the distributed RLCG cable model, comparing predicted reflection values with simulated signals. The results show strong agreement, confirming the model's effectiveness in diagnosing faults in complex cable networks. This should instill confidence in the model's practical application, as it accurately correlates signal reflections with specific defects, paving the way for efficient fault diagnosis.

In the practical application of Brillouin optical time-domain reflectometry (BOTDR) in temperature and strain monitoring, enhancing measurement speed remains a critical challenge. This paper presents a novel method for Brillouin frequency shift (BFS) estimation utilizing level set and digital elevation modeling (DEM). The algorithm demonstrates superior time efficiency. At the same time, the accuracy of the scheme is proved in the comparation experiment and correlation analysis. The method reduces computational time, without spatial resolution or measurement error degradation. © 2025 SPIE.

In this paper, an on-chip wideband bandpass filter (BPF) with high frequency selectivity and low insertion loss is proposed using gallium arsenide (GaAs) integrated passive device (IPD) technology. Multiple transmission zeros can be provided by the capacitors loaded on the series and parallel LC resonators for the proposed design. Comparing with the state-of-the-art on-chip wideband BPFs, the proposed design has the advantages of high frequency selectivity and low loss. The final filter centered at 1.93 GHz with the 3-dB fractional bandwidth of 64.2% is demonstrated, which exhibits the excellent shape factor (30-dB BW/3-dB BW) of 1.28 and the minimum insertion loss of 1.17 dB. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper investigates the optimal tracking performance (OTP) of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) discrete networked control systems (NCSs) under the influence of Denial of Service (DoS) attack, channel noise, and bandwidth constraints. The channel noise is assumed to be additive Gaussian white noise (AWGN). Due to the randomness of DoS attack, a Bernoulli distribution is used for DoS modeling. Utilizing frequency domain analysis methods, coprime factorization, all-pass decomposition, and Youla parameterization, an explicit expression for the optimal tracking performance (OTP) of the system under the two-degree-of-freedom (TDOF) controller is derived. The analysis indicates that non-minimum phase (NMP) zeros, unstable poles (UPs), DoS attack, and network constraints affect the OTP of NCSs. Finally, the theoretical results are validated through simulations of MIMO NCS and vehicle control system. © 2024 IEEE.

Sewer systems play a critical role in transporting wastewater. Efficient maintenance requires accurate identification of sewer pipe defects, traditionally performed through manual interpretation of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) images from robot inspections. This manual process is time-consuming, labor-intensive, and susceptible to human error. While conventional computer vision methods (machine learning methods) have been explored, they often involve extensive image pre-processing and intricate feature extraction. In this study, we propose an automated approach for classifying sewer pipe defects in Iran using deep learning, specifically leveraging the ResNet50 architecture for defect classification. We applied this deep convolutional neural network (CNN) model to automatically detect three common defect types as root intrusions, deposits, and open joints within a dataset 4630 images extracted from CCTV inspection videos of sewer pipes. Our model achieved an average testing accuracy of 96%, highlighting its potential for automating the interpretation of sewer CCTV footage. © 2024 IEEE.
