Optimization of power distribution in electric vehicle hybrid energy storage system based on RBF neural network and dynamic programming

Accurate prediction of driving cycles is critical for developing effective energy management strategies in electric vehicle Hybrid Energy Storage System (HESS). In this paper, a real-time energy management strategy is proposed for electric vehicles based on a neural network model to improve the economy and reduce energy loss while ensuring compliance with all restrictive conditions and driving requirements. The specific implementation steps are as follows. First, high-precision models of batteries and ultracapacitors were established through systematic dynamic testing and parameter identification. Subsequently, within the Model Predictive control (MPC) framework, a novel speed prediction algorithm was developed by integrating Radial Basis Function (RBF) neural networks with dynamic programming to optimize power allocation strategies. Finally, the proposed strategy is comprehensively evaluated and thoroughly analyzed through a series of systematic experiments and simulations, encompassing various prediction horizons and performance metrics. The simulation results demonstrate that the designed speed prediction method exhibits excellent performance. Under different test conditions, its prediction accuracy significantly outperforms that of the backpropagation (BP) neural network-based speed prediction method, with a reduction in prediction error by 10.06 % and a notable improvement in stability. In addition, compared with rule-based and BP-based energy management strategies, the energy loss of the proposed RBF-based energy management strategy is reduced by 16.02 % and 8.34 %, respectively.

New Tocopherol and Acylphloroglucinol Derivatives from Dryopteris Crassirhizoma and Their Antimicrobial Activities

Nine previously undescribed compounds including six tocopherol derivatives (1–6) and three acylphloroglucinol derivatives (7–9) were isolated and characterized from the plants of Dryopteris crassirhizoma. Their structures with absolute configurations were determined by extensive spectroscopic analyses, including IR, HRESIMS, NMR, and calculated electronic circular dichroism (ECD). Compounds 1 and 2 are the first tocopheroid derivatives possessing unique 2,5-dimethylcyclopent-4-ene-1,3-dione carbon skeleton, and compounds 3–6 were new 5a-norcyclopentenones having a spirofused bicyclic carbon skeleton. The biosynthetic pathway of compounds 1–6 was postulated. When combined with fluconazole (FLC), compound 3 showed significant antifungal activity against standard Candida albicans with MIC50 value of 1.19 μg/mL (FLC: 3.41 μg/mL). Furthermore, the anti-plant pathogenic fungi and bacterial activities have been evaluated in vitro, compounds 5 and 8 showed anti-Verticillium dahlia and Sclerotinia sclerotiorum with MIC value of 50 μg/mL, respectively. Compounds 1 and 5 exhibited moderate antibacterial activities against Micrococcus luteus with MIC value of 50 μg/mL, respectively. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Lithium extraction is a great challenge from the high magnesium content salt solution. In this work, an integrated polyamide tight ultrafiltration (UF) and nanofiltration (NF) membranes are systematically investigated to separate Li+ from a high magnesium salt solution. Tight ultrafiltration UA001 and nanofiltration NF270 membranes in the integrated-cascade system not only increased Li+ permeation to 82.5% but also enhanced the high Mg2+ retention to 94.6% from the ternary salt solution of LiCl and MgCl2. The transport model was also developed to calculate the real retention of Li+ and Mg2+, under constant pressure mode. The separation efficiency SFLi/Mg for the ternary salt solution of LiCl+MgCl2+H2O was more than 15 at a constant pressure of 25 bars with an integrated membrane process, which was higher as compared to single-stage UF and NF270 membranes. Moreover, the high Mg2+/Li+ ratio was also reduced from 30 to 1.9 in the integrated-cascade membrane process. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The ultrasonic surface rolling treatment (USRT) was used to prepare aluminum alloy 7075 (AA7075) samples with a surface gradient structure. Microstructural evolution mechanism of the deformation layers on the gradient structure was studied by XRD, SEM, and TEM. The results show that the dislocation slip dominates the grain refinement process, and it follows the continuous cutting and refinement of dislocation cells, subgrains, and fragmentation of the second precipitates. The grain refinement on the surface layer of samples with gradient structure provides a theoretical foundation for the surface grain refinement and nanocrystallization of precipitation-strengthened aluminum alloy. © 2022, The Authors. Transcriptome analysis of unsaturated fatty acids biosynthesis shows essential genes in sprouting of Acer truncatum Bunge seeds

The seeds of Acer truncatum Bunge (ATB) are rich in unsaturated fatty acids (UFA), especially nervonic acid, an important nutrient for the growth and maintenance of the brain. Therefore, the oil of ATB seeds has been approved as a New Resource Food in China. In the present study, changes of transcriptomic profiling and contents of UFA during the sprouting of ATB seeds were analyzed. The results of RNA-seq-based transcriptome analysis showed that the transcription of genes in various metabolic pathways, including the biosynthesis pathway of UFA, were significantly altered during seed sprouting. The gas chromatography-mass spectrometry assay consistently showed that the content of palmitoleic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, gondoic acid, arachidic acid, behenic acid, nervonic acid and lignoceric acid increased 77.9, 20.9, 39.6, 26.3, 95.6, 80.0, 41.7 and 141%, respectively, while the content of oleic acid decreased 49.2%, after sprouting. The whole coding sequence regions of genes involved in the UFA biosynthesis were cloned and sequenced, and the alignment analysis predicted that omega-6 fatty acid desaturase and short-chain type dehydrogenase/reductase might have important roles in the biosynthesis of UFA during the sprouting. The results suggested that nervonic acid could be enriched in ATB seeds via sprouting-stimulation, which had not been previously observed. © 2020

How the Imperfect E-diagnostics Impacts the Capacity Planning and Pricing Decisions of a Maintenance Service Provider

Providing online monitoring (E-diagnostics) has become a value-added practice for equipment maintenance service providers to improve the service quality and efficiency. However, the E-diagnostics is always imperfect, whose accuracy depends on how much components of the equipment are monitored (namely, E-diagnostics depth in our research). This research analyzes the optimal capacity planning and pricing problem by taking into account the imperfect E-diagnostics. In addition, we consider the E-diagnostics accelerate effect to the service process and attempt to find how the effect influences the service provider’s decisions. Our results reveal that the optimal pricing and capacity planning decisions are dependent on customers’ failure cost and service provider’s compensation cost. Specifically, if customers’ failure cost is larger than service provider’s compensation, the service provider would improve the price as the E-diagnostics depth increases; otherwise, the price should be lowered as the E-diagnostics depth increases. In addition, we find as the accelerate effect becomes increasingly obvious, customers’ expected waiting time increases but the service price decreases.

Mining safety integrity level (SIL) determination study results: Evaluating safety integrity level (SIL) targerts of 1,109 safety instumented functions (SIFs) in 12 process facilities in Indonesia

Since 2000s, implementation of functional safety in the process industries have been globally widespread. International Electro-technical Committee (IEC), through their standards IEC-61508 and IEC-61511, mandates all process facilities to evaluate their Safety Instrumented Function (SIF) integrity using the methodologies such as risk matrix, risk graphs or Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA). Of 1,109 safety instrumented functions evaluated in this study, it is found that approximately 55.1% of the targeted Safety Integrity Level (SIL) are having no specific SIL target (or generally named as SIL 0), 29.8% are assigned as SIL 1, 10.7% are credited as SIL 2 and the remaining are categorized as SIL 3 (3.3%) and SIL 4 (1%). Study results also reveal that installation of SIF with SIL target composition of SIL 0 to SIL 2 were the most common in process industries. Preliminary evaluation on SIL determination study reports also showed the tendency of risk graph method of having higher SIL target compared to the LOPA method. The results of this study can be used as a benchmark for further SIL determination study, especially to those who conduct study in Indonesia.

Evacuation control of Crowds of Pedestrians: Distributed or Decentralized? ⁎

Evacuation of crowds in a corridor with only one exit has been considered in this paper where distributed controllers have been constructed to regulate the crowd’s evacuation speed so that stampede tragedy can be avoided. Macroscopic model for crowds of pedestrians has been firstly derived based on inspiration of LWR (Lighthill-Whitham and Richards) model and Greenshields model from traffic system where finite volume method has been introduced to simplify the obtained PDEs into finite ODEs. Distributed evacuation controllers have been constructed based on inspiration of multi-agent system and stability analysis of obtained closed-loop system has been simplified to linear system with the delicate controllers proposed. Comparisons between distributed evacuation controllers and previous evacuation controllers have also been presented to show the advantages and disadvantages of different controllers under different initial density of crowds so that tragedy of crowd stampede can be effectively avoided with appropriate selection of different controllers.
