Voltage-source multilevel inverters have become very attractive for power industries in power electronics applications during last years. The main purposes that have led to the development of the studies about multilevel inverters are the generation of output voltage signals with low harmonic distortion;the reduction of switching frequency. A serious constraint in a multilevel inverter is the capacitor voltage-balancing problem. The unbalance of different DC voltage sources of five-level neutral point clamping (NPC) voltage source inverter (VSI) constitutes the major limitation for the use of this new power converter. In order to stabilize these DC voltages, we propose in this paper to study the cascade constituted by three phases five-level PWM rectifier, a clamping bridge and five-level NPC (VSI). In the first part, we present a topology of five-level NPC VSI, then they propose a model of this converter and an optimal PWM strategy to control it using four bipolar carriers. Then in the second part, we study a five-level PWM rectifier, which is controlled by a multiband hysteresis strategy. In the last part of this paper, the authors study shows particularly the problem of the stability of the multi DC voltages of the inverter and its consequence on the performances of the induction motors (IM). Then, we propose a solution to the problem by employed closed loop regulation using PI regulator type fuzzy logic controller (FLC). The results obtained with this solution confirm the good performances of the proposed solution, and promise to use the inverter in high voltage and great power applications as electrical traction.

Based on linear matrix inequality (LMI) technique, a sliding mode control approach is presented for a class of uncertain time-delay systems in the delay-independent and delay-dependent case. The corresponding sufficient conditions for the existence of sliding mode are proposed. Different from the reported results, the conclusion presented in this paper is only relating to the original system parameters and owns simple and legible form. A numerical example illustrates the effectiveness of the presented method.

The algorithm consists of two part: The first part is online fuzzy modeling using fuzzy clustering and linear identification, the second part is discrete optimization of the control action based on the principle of Branch and Bound method. Unreliable supply is important to procurement and supply chain management. It arises from uncertainties in various factors such as geography, environment and politics, and thus it seems more and more common as economic globalization. Inventory and supplier diversification have been shown to be effective in mitigating supply risk. However, these works underestimate risk as they assume a risk-neutral buyer. With this consideration, this paper is intended to examine how inventory strategy performs with a risk-averse buyer. We assume customer demand arrives before procurement decision. Due to unreliable supply, the buyer receives a random portion of his order. To make trade-off between profit and supply risk, the buyer intends to optimize expected utility other than profit or cost. Therefore, we establish a single-period model with an exponential utility function. We prove that optimal quantity is greater than otherwise would be ordered if the buyer is risk-neutral, and is unique as expected utility is strictly concave in order quantity. Moreover, expected utility is strictly concave in initial inventory level. Hence, inventory strategy including inventory initialization and procurement is proved effective in dealing with supply risk. Interestingly, we also find that optimal expected utility strictly decreases in supply price, and is independent of maximum supply ratio. This implies supply price take precedence over maximum supply ration, on which however optimal order quantity depends. This is similar to extant work in risk-neutral setting, and could lay a foundation for supplier diversification strategy. The basic model can be easily extended to a multi-period and even dynamic one, and thus significantly contributes to supply risk management in both theory and practice.
