This paper considers the problem of reliable control for a class of uncertain switched system via sliding mode control technique. By means of a matrix transformation, a common sliding surface is designed. Moreover, the asymptotical stability of the sliding mode dynamics is analyzed by adopting the multiple Lyapunov functions method based on the min-projection strategy. Besides, the state trajectories can be driven onto the proposed sliding surface despite the presence of the parameter uncertainties and the actuator faults. The efficiency of the controller design is demonstrated by a numerical example.

In this paper is developed cascaded non-linear sliding modes control (SMC) to ensure the flux-speed tracking regime of voltage fed induction machine. The control law is derived in two steps by exploiting back stepping methodology. In the first the virtual SMC, based on Lyapunov function, is derived in view to enforce the flux-speed tracking. Thereafter, is deduced the real sliding modes control imposing the virtual SMC law. The simulation results of flux-speed tracking of induction machine show the validity of the proposed method in presence of strong disturbances.

Linear Quadratic design for the fault tolerant control of the short-period mode of the longitudinal model of the Boeing 747 aircraft is investigated. Under actuator faults, both fault accommodation and system reconfiguration procedures need the controller to be re-designed, which means solving the Algebraic Riccati Equation (ARE) associated with the post-fault system model. To overcome the risks of system instability and/or control inadmissibility, which result from fault detection and isolation delay, and computation time of the accommodated control, a progressive accommodation strategy, based on the Newton-Raphson algorithm for solving AREs, is used. The application shows the benefits associated with this approach.

process monitoring and fault diagnosis using principal component analysis (PCA) were studied intensively and applied to industry processes. The emphasis of most PCA-based works has been mainly on procedures to perform monitoring and diagnosis given a set of sensors, and little attention is paid to the actual location of sensors for efficient detection and identification of process faults. In this paper, graph-based techniques are used to optimize sensor locations to ensure obtaining the maximum fault resolution. Based on the optimized sensor network, an improved PCA is proposed by introducing two new statistics of PVR and CVR to take place the Q statistic in the conventional PCA. The improved PCA can efficiently detect weak changes, and give an insight into the root cause of process fault. Simulation results of a CSTR process show that the improved PCA with optimized sensor locations is superior to the conventional methods.
