Mean policy-based proximal policy optimization for maneuvering decision in multi-UAV air combat

Autonomous maneuvering decision-making is a crucial technology for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) to take the air domination in modern unmanned warfare. With the advantage of balancing exploration and exploitation, as well as the immediacy of end-to-end output by combining with deep neural network, multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) has made remarkable achievements in multi-UAV autonomous air combat maneuvering decision-making (MUAAMD). However, the implementation of effective cooperative policy learning remains a challenging issue for MARL methods with centralized training decentralized execution (CTDE) paradigm. This paper proposes a MARL-based method to improve the performance of cooperation in MUAAMD. Firstly, considering the constraints of dynamic and limited perception for UAVs in the realistic air combat scenario, the MUAAMD problem is formulated based on partially observable Markov game (POMG) model. Secondly, a novel efficient MARL algorithm named the mean policy-based proximal policy optimization (MP3O) is introduced. Specifically, a joint policy optimization mechanism is constructed by estimating the policies of neighboring agents in group as a mean-field approximation while training, which enables both centralized evaluation and improvement of cooperative policy under the CTDE paradigm. Thirdly, by combining with three improvement techniques, a cooperative decision-making framework for MUAAMD based on MP3O is proposed. Empirically, results of simulations and comparative experiments validate the effectiveness of proposed method in promoting cooperative policy learning in resolving MUAAMD problem. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

This paper concerns the stability of switched systems orchestrating between unstable modes. First, a mode partition is applied to select stabilizing switching from the switching between modes from different subsets. Second, a piecewise Lyapunov-like function is applied to decline at stabilizing switching times. Then, the stability criteria build on mode-partition-dependent average dwell time by collecting enough stabilizing switching behavior to stabilize the destabilizing switching behavior and unstable modes. Finally, the simulation verification shows the feasibility and effectiveness of the method. © 2022 The Franklin Institute

Heave suppression of semi-submersible platform with tuned heave plate containing inerter

Here, to mitigate unsteady heave response of a semi-submersible platform (SSP) of floating wind turbine under wave foree, based on the Vibration reduction principle of tuned mass damper, effects of tuned heave plate (THP) structure with inerter on heave response of semi-submersible platform were studied. The dynamic model of THP inerter System- semi-submersible platform was built, and heave motion RMS value of semi-submersible platform was taken as the evaluation criterion to determine optimal design parameters of THP inerter System. Contrastive analysis was performed for heave responses of a semi-submersible platform with a THP interter System, a traditional semi-submersible platform, a semi-submersible platform with a fixed heave plate (FHP) and a semi-submersible platform with a THP under 4 different sea conditions. The results showed that under 4 sea eonditions, THP inerter System has the best effect on suppressing heave motion of semi-submersible platform of floating wind turbine, i. e., introducing inerter-based device is helpful to suppress heave motion of semi-submersible platform. © 2025 Chinese Vibration Engineering Society. Direct panoramic optical imaging for closed surfaces

Common methods for panoramic imaging of closed surfaces currently involve the use of motion or multiple cameras, combined with image processing algorithms to reconstruct a full-perspective image. These methods require image reconstruction and post-processing, which limits the accuracy of the imaging. In this study, we propose a silver–glass composite layered structure with subwavelength spacing to create an equivalent null medium in the optical band. By utilizing the null medium’s directional projection property of optical waves, what we believe to be a novel lens, the direct panoramic optical imaging lens (DPOIL), is designed. Both 2D and 3D simulated results demonstrate that the proposed DPOIL can directly project a full-perspective optical pattern from a closed curved object surface onto a flat image plane. It achieves direct panoramic imaging over a wide spectral band from 544 to 734 nm for TM-polarized waves. The imaging process does not require image reconstruction or post-processing, thus enhancing the accuracy of panoramic imaging. The DPOIL proposed in this study has potential applications in biological surface imaging, panoramic detection, and other scenarios requiring panoramic direct imaging of closed surfaces within the optical band.

This paper proposes an economic dispatching strategy for the microgrid based on multiple distributed energy sources, aiming at the problem that microgrid can fully cooperatively invoke multiple distributed energy sources and minimize the economic cost and carbon emissions. An optimization model is established, which includes wind generators, photovoltaic generators, diesel generators, gas turbines and the main grid. This study takes the minimum economic cost and the minimum carbon emissions as the dual objectives, and uses NSGA-II algorithm to solve the model. Finally, a numerical example is given to verify that this study can play a positive role in the economic and environmental protection operation of the microgrid. © 2022 IEEE.

Multirotor Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV)s flight performance rely on accurate estimation of their attitude and position for stable and robust control, which is essential for precise path following and management. Traditional methods for estimating six Degrees of Freedom (DoF) parameters, such as position, orientation, and velocity, often combine data from Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), and vision sensors using complex algorithms for fusion and filtering. This approach can lead to challenges in real-time processing and robustness to environmental variations. In this paper, we propose a novel approach that leverages deep learning and incorporates a physics-informed loss function based on monocular vision data to enhance the accuracy of these sensors by eliciting position and heading data from a trained model of flow detection, enhanced with a mathematical model of optical flow. We implement a fusion of camera, IMU, magnetometer, and ultrasonic sensors for robust and accurate 6 DoF data acquisition in multirotor systems. Our proposed framework utilizes Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN)s to directly learn the mapping between sensor data and 6 DoF parameters. By jointly processing visual and inertial data in an end-to-end manner, our model exploits the complementary information provided by each sensor modality, thereby enhancing estimation accuracy and robustness to external disturbances. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach through extensive experiments on real-world multirotor platforms, show-casing significant improvements in pose and motion estimation accuracy compared to conventional methods. Our fusion deep learning framework offers a promising pathway for enhancing the autonomy and performance of multi rotor UAVs.
