One of the drawbacks of current Computer-aided Detection (CADe) systems is a high number of false-positive (FP) detections, especially for detecting mass abnormalities. In a typical CADe system, classifier design is one of the key steps for determining FP detection rates. This paper presents the effective classifier ensemble system for tackling FP reduction problem in CADe. To construct ensemble consisting of correct classifiers while disagreeing with each other as much as possible, we develop a new ensemble construction solution that combines data resampling underpinning AdaBoost learning with the use of different feature representations. In addition, to cope with the limitation of weak classifiers in conventional AdaBoost, our method has an effective mechanism for tuning the level of weakness of base classifiers. Further, for combining multiple decision outputs of ensemble members, a weighted sum fusion strategy is used to maximize a complementary effect for correct classification. Comparative experiments have been conducted on benchmark mammogram dataset. Results show that the proposed classifier ensemble outperforms the best single classifier in terms of reducing the FP detections of masses.

A challenging task in over-the-horizon radar (OTHR) is the tracking of target altitude. It has been shown that the micro-multipaths due to ocean/ground reflections may reveal important information about the elevation maneuvering of a target. The Doppler signature of such micro-multipath signals is typically composed of three components having close nonlinear time-frequency behaviors. In this paper, we develop novel time-frequency analysis techniques for the characterization of Doppler effect of micro-multipath signals. The proposed method is based on the local analysis of the signal phase, followed by a stationarization operator. In the warped representation domain, the multi-component nonlinear Doppler signatures become stationary, thus allowing the application of spectral analysis tools. The results presented are based on real data and illustrate the potential of the proposed methods.

This paper investigates the performance of DCS1800/CD-MA-EVDO dual-mode dual-link (DM-DL) UE and presents an effective solution which is based on our designed high isolation antenna for the UE local electromagnetic interference (EMI). To this end, a DCS1800/CDMA-EVDO DM-DL UE model is firstly brought out, together with its system model, interference analysis and performance evaluation. Simulated results show that the DCS1800 (CDMA-EVDO) local interference will cause a sharp deterioration of the CDMA-EVDO (DCS1800) receiving sensitivity. To solve this problem, then, a compact and high isolation double-band handset antenna is given with its structure designed and performance validated by measurement. On the basis of this antenna and existing UE bandpass filter, we introduce a solution called "passive isolation to eliminate the local interference. Finally, the performance of DCS1800/CDMA-EVDO DM-DL UE is researched again by our solution, simulated results indicate that the isolation effect is quite good and the DM-DL UE can work normally.

Tissue P systems are distributed parallel and non-deterministic computing models in the framework of membrane computing, which are inspired by intercellular communication and cooperation between neurons. Recently, cell separation is introduced into tissue P systems, which enables systems to generate an exponential workspace in a polynomial time. In this work, the computational power of tissue P systems with cell separation is investigated. Specifically, a uniform family of tissue P systems with cell separation is constructed for effciently solving a well-known NP-complete problem, the partition problem.

With the economic developments, high speed railway has been paid many attentions in China and medium- short term planning of Chinese high speed railway network has been formed and most of the railways have been started into operations. In this paper, graph theory and complex network theory are adopted to assess the reliability of Chinese high speed railway network. The topological characteristics and real distances between pairs of stations are discussed to investigate the reliability of Chinese high-speed rail network. Several parameters are presented to investigate the topological characteristics and the reliability and robustness of the network subject to failures. The parameter called unit degree betweenness is proposed to assess the transport capacity of lines connecting with the nodes. The largest degree node-based attacks and the highest betweenness node-based attacks are involved into Chinese high speed railway network to assess the topological reliability and robustness. The results show that the highest betweenness node-based attacks are more effective to destroy the network than the largest degree node-based attacks. Moreover, the cumulative degree distribution and the real mileages of railways between pairs of stations can be fitted by Gauss functions, and the distribution of real shortest distances over all pairs of stations of the network is fitted by a normal distribution function. By the simulations, the critical stations, Guangzhou Station, Zhengzhou Station and Jinan Station for the largest degree node-based attacks, and Wuhan Station, Xuzhou Station and Shijiazhuang Station for the highest betweenness node-based attacks, can be obtained in this paper. © 2011 IEEE.

Based on the current development of Model Driven Architecture (MDA) in Enterprise Information System (EIS), the paper proposes a DMDA, a new development architecture to improve EIS development speed and quality. The basic idea of the DMDA is to take advantage of formal description, decomposition and re-use on EIS development process to let computer understand development demands of developers and then consequently generate some business models having nothing to do with specific technical realization, combine with specific technical basic platform to finally generate the EIS meeting actual demands based on data model. The practice proves the architecture is capable of simplifying EIS development difficulty, expediting application and development speed, improve development quality and achieve the rapid development purpose. © 2011 IEEE.

Recently, Gutiérrez-Naranjo and Leporati considered performing basic arithmetic operations on a new class of bioinspired computing devices - spiking neural P systems (for short, SN P systems). However, the binary encoding mechanism used in their research looks like the encoding approach in electronic circuits, instead of the style of spiking neurons (in usual SN P systems, information are encoded as the time interval between spikes). In this work, three SN P systems are constructed as adder, subtracter and multiplier, respectively. In these devices, a number is inputted to the system as the interval of time elapsed between two spikes received by input neuron, the result of a computation is the time between the moments when the output neuron spikes. © 2011 IEEE.

A consciousness-driven visual attention model is presented in this paper. It is based on a bio-inspired computer fovea model and a hierarchical analysis for the given visual receptive field. Indeed, the bio-inspired computer fovea model is used to simulate the neural activity on the human visual system, and the hierarchical analysis provides a function to explore the information on the given visual scene. The proposed model can evaluate the contents on the scene and automatically highlights visually important regions. This model can be used in various applications, such as surveillance, visual navigation and target acquisition, etc.

Tag recommendation allows mitigating the amount of user effort needed to annotate images. Assuming that favorite images and their associated tags are indicative of the visual and topical interests of users, this paper proposes a personalized image tag recommendation technique that makes use of favorite image context. Specifically, to recommend tags for a newly uploaded image, we propose to take advantage of the tags assigned to favorite images of the user who uploaded the image, fusing tag statistics and visual similarity. Experimental results obtained for images and tags retrieved from Flickr compare the use of favorite image context to the use of personal and collective context for the purpose of tag recommendation, showing that the use of favorite image context is promising.

Given the observation that content transformations tend to preserve semantic information, we demonstrated in previous research that model-free semantic concept detection can be successfully leveraged for identifying NDVCs. In this paper, we seek a better understanding of the usefulness of model-free semantic concept detection for both the task of annotation and NDVC detection. In particular, through extensive experiments, we demonstrate that the problem of detecting semantic concepts for the goal of identifying NDVCs is more relaxed than the problem of detecting semantic concepts for annotation purposes: whereas incorrectly detected semantic concepts negatively affect the effectiveness of annotation, they do not negatively affect the effectiveness of NDVC detection, as long as the same incorrect semantic concepts are detected for both the reference and near-duplicate video clips. This observation has practical implications for the design of a video management system that makes use of model-free semantic concept detection for both the purpose of annotation and NDVC detection.
