In positron emission tomography (PET) image reconstruction, regularization methods are usually considered to suppress noise effects in reconstructed images. In this paper, we model this reconstruction problem in a new variational framework where the Mumford-Shah (MS) regularization coupled with recently developed L 1 data fidelity term is adapted. In order to simplify the numerical computation, Ambrosio and Tortorelli's Gamma-convergence approximation is also employed to substitute the irregular parts (edge set) of MS functionals with the auxiliary smooth function. In numerical studies we compare our method with the "conventional" penalized least-square (PLS) algorithm with local nonquadratic Huber penalty. Results show both the feasibility and efficiency of the proposed algorithm

There have been many researches on multi-view image processing for free viewpoint image generation. However, most of the previous studies focused on the way to generate free viewpoint images with a sense of naturalness considering simplicity of computation and real time processing. One of the merits of the free viewpoint TV is to generate some images that correspond to the user's viewpoint. In this paper, we present a smart remote controller to enjoy a future 3D TV. The proposed controller is smart in that it provides the users with some candidate viewpoints and they are automatically computed based on the theory of human visual attention. The candidate viewpoints are generated from the analysis of an input image by human visual attention model.

This paper introduces the new qualitative and quantitative methods, which can diagnose breast tumors. Qualitative methods include blood vessel display inside and outside of pathological changes part of breast, display of equivalent pixel curves at the part of pathological changes and display of breast tumor image edge. Accordingly, three feature extraction operators are proposed, i.e. the combination operators of anisotropic gradient and smoothing operator, an improved Sobel operator and an edge sharpening operator. Furthermore, quantitative diagnostic approaches are discussed based on blood and oxygen contents according to abundant clinical data and pathological mechanism of breast tumors. In this paper, a unique road contour extraction approach from high resolution satellite image is proposed, in which the road contour was extracted in two steps. Firstly, support vector machines (SVM) was employed merely to classify the image into two groups of categories: a road group and a non-road group. The identified road group images are the discrete and irregularly distributed sampled points, and they are an uncompleted data set for the road. Secondly, the road contour was extracted from the road group images using the tensor voting framework, since the tensor voting technique is superior to the traditional methods in extracting the geometrical structure from the uncompleted data set. The experimental results on the high resolution satellite image demonstrate that the proposed approach worked well with images comprised by both rural and urban area features.

As System-on-Chip (SOC) manufacture technology moves into ultra deep sub-micron (DSM) ear, Crosstalk faults between SoC interconnect result in improper function of the chip. This problem is becoming more and more severe. Based on the in-depth research of the property of crosstalk fault and the MAF model, we presented a simple and efficient model - the Search-Based Maximal Aggressor Fault (SB-MAF) for detecting glitch and delay faujts caused by crosstalk effects on interconnects between components of a SOC. The respective efficiency of the presented model and the MAF model is given in the paper. The results of simulation show that two models' efficiency is comparable when crosstalk is weak. However, the efficiency of the SB-MAF model is obviously improved compare to the MAP model when there are strong crosstalk effects between SoC interconnects.

Walsh-Haar function system that was first intruoduced by us is a new kind of function systems, and has a good global/local property. This function system is called Walsh ordering function system since its generation kernel functions belong to Walsh ordering Walsh function system. We worked out a recursive property of the matrix WHKRm+1 corresponding to the first KR m+1 Walsh-Haar functions in Walsh-Haar function system, and we also proved that Walsh-Haar function system is perfect and orthogonal similar to Walsh function system and Haar function system. Thus, discrete Walsh-Haar transformation (DW-HT) is an orthogonal transformation that can be widely used in signal processing. In this paper, using the recursive property of the matrix WHKRm+1 and the fast algorithm of discrete Walsh transformation (DWT) in Walsh ordering, we have designed a fast algorithm of Walsh ordering DW-HT based on the bisection technique. The idea and method used in this paper can be used for designing fast algorithms of other ordering DW-HTs and other discrete orthogonal transformations.
