Architectural elements are the components and details of buildings. Their unique set, combination, design, construction technique form the architectural style of buildings. Building facade classification by architectural styles is viewed as a task of classifying separate architectural structural elements. In the scope of building facade architectural style classification the current paper targets the problem of classification of Gothic and Baroque architectural elements called tracery, pediment and balustrade. Since certain gradient directions dominate on the shape of each architectural element, discrimination between dominating gradients means classification of architectural elements and thus architectural styles. We use local features to describe gradient directions. Our approach is based on clustering and learning of local features and yields a high classification rate. © 2012 Institute of Telecommunica.

We present a model of the dynamic elastic torsion of the mechanical dithering devices of ring laser gyroscopes and analyze its impact on the accuracy of attitude determination in a strapdown inertial navigation system. We also describe a method for calibrating such parameters in order to compensate for this effect in attitude integration algorithm. The method is an extension to the existing calibration technique introduced in 2009 by N.A. Parusnikov of Moscow State University, applicable to tactical and navigation grade inertial systems on a turntable with horizontal rotation axis. New parameters of dynamic elastic torsion are included into the state vector of a linear state-space model subject to estimation. We examine their estimability and predicted covariance, and as present experimental results. We extend the model with three parameters, which was described in our previous work, to the one with nine parameters. © 2022 Elektropribor.

Recent analysis of the XCS classifier system have shown that successful genetic learning strongly depends on the amount of fitness pressure towards accurate classifiers. Since the traditionally used proportionate selection is dependent on fitness scaling and fitness distribution the resulting evolutionary fitness pressure may be neither stable nor sufficiently strong. Thus we apply tournament selection to XCS. In particular we exhibit the weakness of proportionate selection and suggest tournament selection as a more reliable alternative. We show that tournament selection results in a learning classifier system that is more parameter independent noise independent and more efficient in exploiting fitness guidance in single-step problems as well as multistep problems. The evolving population is more focused on promising subregions of the problem space and thus finds the desired accurate maximally general representation faster and more reliably. © 2005 Springer Science + Business Media Inc.

We analyze the effect of the dynamic elastic torsion, which mechanical dithering devices of ring laser gyroscopes can be subject to, on the accuracy of attitude determination in a strapdown inertial navigation system. In the big data era, there is a necessity for effective frameworks to collect, retrieve, and manage data. As not all tweets are hashtagged by users, retrieving them is a complicated task. To address this issue, we present a rule-based expert system classifier that uses the well-known concept of fingerprint in the judicial sciences. This expert system using defined rules first takes a fingerprint from the tweets of an emerging topic. After that, for being robust the fingerprint, using a rule-based search, the fingerprint with its neighbor features is to be updated. For detecting the unhashtagged tweets of the topic, each tweet in question checks itself with the generated fingerprint. By using the Twitter APIs of Streaming API and REST API, there is no way to access old Twitter data. To address this issue, we present a hybrid approach of Web scraping and Twitter streaming API. When the presented framework is compared to other similar works, there are (1) a novel two-class classification using an expert system approach that can intelligently and robustly detect the most of tweets of the emerging topics although they do not have the hashtag of the topic.;(2) a practical method for extracting old Twitter data. Also, we made a comparative text mining in 195649 collected Persian and English tweets about JCPOA. The JCPOA is one of the most important international treaties about the nuclear program between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the USA, China, France, Russia, Germany, and England. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature B.V.

Spiking Neural P (SNP) systems, variants of P systems (under Membrane and Natural computing), are computing models that acquire abstraction and inspiration from the way neurons 'compute' or process information. Similar to other P system variants, SNP systems are Turing complete models that by nature compute non-deterministically and in a maximally parallel manner. P systems usually trade (often exponential) space for (polynomial to constant) time. Due to this nature, P system variants are currently limited to parallel simulations, and several variants have already been simulated in parallel devices. In this paper we present an improved SNP system simulator based on graphics processing units (GPUs). Among other reasons, current GPUs are architectured for massively parallel computations, thus making GPUs very suitable for SNP system simulation. The computing model, hardware/software considerations, and simulation algorithm are presented, as well as the comparisons of the CPU only and CPU-GPU based simulators. © 2011 IEEE.

A tool package for computing genus 0 Belyi functions is presented, including simplification routines, computation of moduli fields, decompositions, dessins d'enfant. The main algorithm for computing the Belyi functions themselves is based on implied transformations of the hypergeometric differential equation to Fuchsian equations, preferably with few singular points. This gives a fast way to compute the Belyi functions (of degree 60 and beyond) with nearly regular branching patterns. © 2014 Springer-Verlag.

Systems biology is very much concerned with gaining an overview of what is happening in complex systems, such as in biomedical data sets, for which we need good global visualization tools. This research uses a method based on information distance geometry to create visualizations analogous to heat-maps of prognostic and diagnostic variables. It illustrates the advantages of an informationally self-structuring approach to the understanding of biomedical data. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

We study potential gains in the spectral efficiency of multi-cell uplink CDMA systems that accrue from assigning users in different parts of a cell to different frequency bands. We develop a criterion that enables a fair comparison with a conventional (non-partitioned) system. Two design scenarios are considered: (i) each user requires a fixed data rate, (ii) each user has a fixed SNR. We show that in both scenarios there is a gain in spectral efficiency - regardless of the particular partitioning strategy employed - if an MMSE receiver is used. There is no gain if a decorrelator or a matched filter receiver is used. We validate our results through numerical simulations and provide an intuitive explanation based on the coding-spreading tradeoff. © 2004 IEEE.
