Identification of inactive constraints for SCED model considering uncertain power injection

With the constant expansion of power grid, a large number of security constraints have put tremendous challenges to the online economic dispatch. An efficient tool to eliminate the inactive constraints becomes necessary for security constraints economic dispatch (SCED) in large power systems. In this paper, considering the uncertainty of renewable energy integration, a fast and effective method to identify the inactive security constraints was proposed. Firstly, the definition of uncertain inactive security constraints and a necessary and sufficient condition to identify those were presented respectively. Considering the time-consuming identification, we relaxed the feasible region of original SCED model and utilized greedy algorithm to quickly eliminate part of inactive constraints. Then another necessary and sufficient condition was proposed and verified, where the remaining inactive constraints could be identified. Through the simulation of 24-time periods 9-bus system and 96-time periods IEEE 118-bus system, the speed and effectiveness of proposed method were verified. Moreover, the results can help dispatch operators to locate the transmission lines with the highest congestion risk. © 2014 Chin. Soc. for Elec. Eng.

Air-gap magnetic field distribution and inductance characteristics in a long primary sectional powered variable pole pitch linear induction motor

This study investigated the air-gap magnetic field distribution and inductance characteristics of a long primary sectional powered variable pole pitch linear induction motor (VPPLIM). A one-dimensional analytical model and a 2-D finite element model were used to analyze the air-gap magnetic field distribution in the VPPLIM with harmonic fields for uniformly accelerating the mover with a typical AC supply. The air-gap magnetic field distribution was used to develop analytical expressions for the self-and mutual-inductances of the motor and their characteristics. Transient stability assessment based on 2D combined attribute decision tree

A method for the power system transient stability assessment based on 2D combined attribute decision tree was proposed. Different from single attribute decision trees, the 2D trees combine two attributes as one automatically to improve its classifying ability in case of multi-dimension and nonlinear border among classes. In the proposed 2D tree, Gini coefficient based 2D combined splitting criterions was adopted and search method for splitting line in an inverse direction was developed. Case study was carried out in one-machine infinite bus system, IEEE 39-bus system and a real provincial system. Results show that, 2D combined attribute decision trees generated by the proposed method are smaller in structure, have the higher accuracy and generalization ability than that generated by the single attribute decision trees. Meanwhile, some important relationship between physical variables in power systems can be mined by the proposed method. Advantages mentioned above make that the proposed method is potential for real-life power system applications. © 2009 Chin. Soc. for Elec. Eng.

A dynamic multi-level temporal and spatial coordination method for orderly power utilization based on customer load curtailment cost characteristics

When there is power supply shortage or emergency event in power system, orderly power utilization needs to be applied to cut down electricity demand to maintain power supply for important electricity consumers. Current orderly power utilization fails to consider curtailment costs for different regions and customers, and ignores temporal continuity and production regularity of customer, leading to inefficient load curtailment scheduling. This paper proposes a dynamic multi-level temporal and spatial coordinated shortage allocation method considering customer load curtailment costs for orderly power utilization. Load curtailment cost function is established from individual customer level up to provincial electrical grid level. An optimization model is proposed to strategically rearrange customer load profiles across multiple periods. Case studies show that the method efficiently coordinates power shortage in temporal and spatial scale, and significantly brings down economic cost due to curtailment allocation. This model could help promote customer satisfaction level in orderly power utilization. © 2016, power System Technology Press. All right reserved.

The implementation of non-communication protection of double circuit line systems based on two independent relays has disadvantages like information shareless,complex connection and lack of economic. This paper researched the implementation of non-communication protection of double circuit line systems based on one relay - the integrated protection platform. Hardware structure of the integrated protection platform is described, and software flow of non-communication protection of double circuit line systems which implemented on the integrated protection platform is also described. Large number of RTDS experiments proved that, according to various asymmetrical fault and symmetrical fault, this protection scheme has reliable and sensitive action performance. It is proved that the implement non-communication protection of double circuit line systems based on the intergrated protection platform is feasible.

In the annular power distribution system, short-circuit fault of bus-bars will do fatal harm to aircraft, and it is necessary to protect the ring-net bus-bars. Protecting bus-bars has to meet the requirements that protection devices do not refuse to operate and backup protection devices do not act incorrectly. This paper builds a model about the annular power distribution system and stimulates the fault system based on MATlab. According to the fault features, directional blocking pilot protection is put forward. The results prove that the new method can achieve automatic isolation of the bus-bar at fault, ensures the safety of aircraft power distribution system, and it is of great importance to improve the reliability of aircraft power distributing.

The paper proposes faulted feeder selector in power distribution system with neutral non-effectively grounded. At first, the paper presents basic principle of single-phase-to-ground fault feeder selection based on traveling waves, which compares amplitude and polarity of the initial current traveling waves in all feeders. Then the implementation scheme, including hardware design and software flowchart is presented. At last field application of faulted feeder selector is introduced. The field operation results validated the correctness of faulted feeder selector based on transient traveling wave.

This paper presents a dynamic model of a Linear Fresnel Reflector (LFR) used to describe the evolution of the output steam enthalpy and the control strategy that was developed to allow coupling with Combined Cycle power Plants (CCPP) while respecting operational constraints. The modeling approach uses the principle of a moving boundary formulation of a two-phase flow region and results in a nonlinear finite dimensional state space description. In order to circumvent the problem of nonlinearities, a simple linearization-based approach is proposed, providing accurate simulation results. simulations illustrating tracking performances compatible with the CCPP coupling, as well as good (solar) disturbance rejection are shown.

With the large-scale integration of distributed generations (DGs), a centralized control approach is being challenged concerning communication efficiency, resiliency to communication failure, privacy, and scalab.lity. An autonomous decentralized control for DGs in distribution networks is proposed to ensure privacy while also reducing the computational burden. Meanwhile,a multi-agent reinforcement learning method considering privacy protection constraints is developed to solve the autonomous decentralized control problem. The effectiveness of the proposed control method is verified by the numerical example of the modified 141-bus distribution system test_feeder.

Maximum flow algorithm based on adjustment of net flow on nodes and its application

For calculating the maximum capacity transported from source node to sink node in a network, a maximum flow algorithm was proposed. Based on the concept of net flow on nodes (NFN) and layered increment network (LIN), the plus flow process (PFP) and minus flow process (MFP) on LIN were defined. By performing PFP and MFP on NLP over and over, the maximum flow problem was solved when the sink node can't get a mark again. Compare to the existing max flow algorithm, the proposed method needs no complex data structure in processing, which makes the algorithm implemented easily. Based on the algorithm, a thermal economic dispatch software package which includes fixed electricity plant was developed and had been put into practice and had a good performance. Furthermore, the algorithm runs in O(n2m) (n, m is the number of nodes and arcs of the network) was proved.
