Natural Human-Computer Interface requires integration of realistic audio and visual information for perception and display. An example of such an interface is an animated talking head displayed on the computer screen in the form of a human-like computer agent. This system converts text to acoustic speech with synchronized animation of mouth movements. The talking head is based on a generic 3D human head model, but to improve realism, natural looking personalized models are necessary. In this paper, we report a semi-automatic method for adapting a generic head model to 3D range data of a human head obtained from a 3D-laser range scanner. This personalized model is incorporated into the talking head system. With texture mapping, the personalized model offers a more natural and realistic look than the generic model. The model created with the proposed method compares favorable to generic models.

To preserve the sharp features and details of the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image effectively when despeckling, a despeckling algorithm with edge detection in nonsubsampled second generation bandelet transform (NSBT) domain is proposed. First, the Canny operator is utilized to detect and remove edges from the SAR image. Then the NSBT which has an optimal approximation to the edges of images and a hard thresholding rule are used to approximate the details while despeckling the edge-removed image. Finally, the removed edges are added to the reconstructed image. As the edges are detected and protected, and the NSBT is used, the proposed algorithm reaches the state-of-the-art effect which realizes both despeckling and preserving edges and details simultaneously. Experimental results show that both the subjective visual effect and the mainly objective performance indexes of the proposed algorithm outperform that of both Bayesian wavelet shrinkage with edge detection and Bayesian least square-Ganssian scale mixture (BLS-GSM).

We study the transport properties of a p-InMnAs/n-InAs/Nb junction where a p-InMnAs can be regarded as a spin injector. Differential conductance of the n-InAs channel is measured as a function of injection current from p-InMnAs or from Nb at 20 mK. A conductance minimum appears at zero-bias voltage with no current injection. As the injection current from p-InMnAs increases, the minimum gradually disappears. This conductance behaviour is very different from that of the injection case from Nb. We also calculate the conductance in the n-InAs channel by taking account of the exchange field in the InAs channel that is induced by InMnAs ferromagnet. The difference between the conductance behaviours on injection current direction can be explained by the inverse proximity effect that the exchange field is also induced in the superconducting electrode.
