Accurate endpoint detection is a necessary capability for speech recognition. A new energy measure method based on the empirical mode decomposition (EMD) algorithm and Teager energy operator (TEO) is proposed to locate endpoint intervals of a speech signal embedded in noise. With the EMD, the noise signals can be decomposed into different numbers of sub-signals called intrinsic mode functions (IMFs), which is a zero-mean AM-FM component. Then TEO can be used to extract the desired feature of the modulation energy for IMF components. In order to show the effectiveness of the proposed method, examples are presented to show that the new measure is more effective than traditional measures. The present experimental results show that the measure can be used to improve the performance of endpoint detection algorithms and the accuracy of this algorithm is quite satisfactory and acceptable.

Adaptive cross approximation (ACA) algorithm as a kind of common matrix compression method is often used to analyze the electromagnetic radiation and scattering problems. In the region of far field, the impedance matrix is compressed by ACA method, and the extracted impedance matrix is accelerated filling by equivalent dipole-moment method (EDM). In the area of near field, the method of moments or the equivalent dipole-moment method is applied for filling the impedance matrix. The iterative near field preconditioning technique is used to solve matrix equation, so that fast calculation of radar cross section (RCS) can be achieved. Numerical results show that the computational efficiency is improved significantly via applying the presented method in this paper without sacrificing much accuracy.

The original antenna arrays are divided into a number of subdomains and high-level basis functions are constructed for each subdomain through their couplings, the resulting matrix can be largely reduced. Existing methods for the registration of blurred images are efficient for the artificially blurred images or a planar registration. They are not suitable for image mosaic of the source images from a real camera with an almost fixed optical center. We propose a registration method so that a distortion-free registration on naturally captured images can be obtained. It adopts a multi-resolution and robust feature based inter-layer mosaic together. In each layer, Harris corner detector is chosen to effectively detect features and RANSAC is used to find reliable matches for further calibration as well as an initial homography as the initial motion of next layer. Simplex and subspace trust region methods are used consequently to estimate the stable focal length and rotation matrix through the transformation property of feature matches. Experimental results demonstrate the performance of our proposed method.

In this paper, a technique for the extraction of roads in a high resolution synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image is presented. And a three-step method is developed for the extraction of road network from space borne SAR image: the process of the feature points, road candidate detection and connection. Roads in a high resolution SAR image can be modeled as a homogeneous dark area bounded by two parallel boundaries. Dark areas, which represent the candidate positions for roads, are extracted from the image by a Gaussian probability iteration segmentation. Possible road candidates are further processed using the morphological operators. And the roads are accurately detected by Hough Transform, and the extraction of lines is achieved by searching the peak values in Hough Space. In this process, to detect roads more accurately, post-processing, including noisy dark regions removal and false roads removal is performed. At last, Road candidate connection is carried out hierarchically according to road established models. Finally, the main road network is established from the SAR image successfully. As an example, using the ERS-2SAR image data, automatic detection of main road network in Shanghai Pudong area is presented.

Image matching is the first step in almost any 3D computer vision task, and hence has received extensive attention. In this paper, the problem is addressed from a novel perspective, which is different from the classic stereo matching paradigm. Two images with different resolutions, that is high resolution versus low resolution are matched. Since the high resolution image only corresponds to a small region of the low resolution one, the matching task therefore consists in finding a small region in the low resolution image that can be assigned to the whole high resolution image under the plane similarity transformation, which can be defined by the local area correlation coefficient to match the interest points and rectified by similarity transform. Experiment shows that our matching algorithm can be used for scale changing up to a factor of 6. And it is successful to deal with the point matching between two images under large scale.
