In this work, we maximize the secrecy rate of the wireless-powered untrusted amplify-and-forward relay networks by jointly designing power splitting (PS) ratio and relay beamforming with the proposed global optimal algorithm (GOA) and local optimal algorithm (LOA). To guarantee secure communication, the destination-based artificial noise is sent to degrade the reception of the untrusted relay, and it also becomes a new source of energy powering relay to forward the information with power splitting (PS) technique. Simulation result shows that LOA can achieve satisfactory secrecy rate performance compared with that of GOA, but with less computation time. It also manifests that both proposed algorithms outperform the benchmark method.

Verb errors are one of the most common grammar errors made by non-native writers of English. This work especially focus on an important type of verb usage errors, subject-verb agreement for the third person singular forms, which has a high proportion in errors made by non-native English learners. Existing work has not given a satisfied solution for this task, in which those using supervised learning method usually fail to output good enough performance, and rule-based methods depend on advanced linguistic resources such as syntactic parsers. In this paper, we propose a rule-based method to detect and correct the concerned errors. The proposed method relies on a series of rules to automatically locate subject and predicate in four types of sentences. The evaluation shows that the proposed method gives state-of-The-Art performance with quite limited linguistic resources.

Many large-scale systems benefit from an organizational structure to provide for problem decomposition. A pivotal problem solving setting is given by hierarchical control systems familiar from hierarchical task networks. If these structures can be modified autonomously by, e.g., Coalition formation and reconfiguration, adequate decisions on higher levels require a faithful abstracted model of a collective of agents. An illustrative example is found in calculating schedules for a set of power plants organized in a hierarchy of Autonomous Virtual Power Plants. Functional dependencies over the combinatorial domain, such as the joint costs or rates of change of power production, are approximated by repeatedly sampling input-output pairs and substituting the actual functions by piecewise linear functions. However, if the sampled data points are weakly informative, the resulting abstracted high-level optimization introduces severe errors. Furthermore, obtaining additional point lab.ls amounts to solving computationally hard optimization problems. Building on prior work, we propose to apply techniques from active learning to maximize the information gained by each additional point. Our results show that significantly better allocations in terms of cost-efficiency (up to 33.7 % reduction in costs in our case study) can be found with fewer but carefully selected sampling points using Decision Forests.

Artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm is a novel heuristic algorithm inspired from the intelligent behavior of honey bee swarm. ABC algorithm has a good performance on solving optimization problems of multivariable functions and has been applied in many fields. However, traditional ABC algorithm chooses solutions on the onlooker stage with roulette wheel selection (RWS) strategy which has several disadvantages. Firstly, RWS is suitable for maximization optimization problem. The fitness value has to be converted when solving minimization optimization problem. This makes RWS difficult to be generally used in real-world applications. Secondly, RWS has no any parameter that can control the selection pressure. Therefore, RWS is not easy to adapt to various optimization problems. This paper proposes a tournament selection based ABC (TSABC) algorithm to avoid these disadvantages of RWS based ABC. Moreover, this paper proposes an elitist strategy that can be applied to traditional ABC, TSABC, and any other ABC variants, so as to avoid the phenomenon that ABC algorithm may abandon the globally best solution in the scout stage. We compare the performance of traditional ABC and TSABC on a set of benchmark functions. The experiment results show that TSABC is more flexible and can be efficiently adapted to solve various optimization problems by controlling the selection pressure. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.

Despite numerous efforts on blur measurement of partially blurred images, there still lacks an effective blur measure that is both pixel-wise and locally sharp consistent. The paper proposes a novel method with two contributions to overcome this limitation: 1) A new pixel-based blur metric, Multi-resolution Singular Value (MSV), which leverages the average singular value of high frequency bands to measure the blur of each pixel, and 2) a locally continuous strategy, maximum-likelihood estimation (MLE) based refinement, that ensures local continuity by imposing the local sharp consistency on pixel blur in a local correcting process. Experimental results show that our method is effective to smoothly measure the partially blurred images without local discontinuity. © 2014 IEEE.

This paper proposes to solve the task scheduling problem in cloud computing by using a load balance aware genetic algorithm (LAGA) with Minmin and Max-min methods. Task scheduling problems are of great importance in cloud computing, and become especially challenging when taking load balance into account. Our proposed LAGA algorithm has several advantages when solving this kind of problems. Firstly, by introducing the time load balance (TLB) model to help establish the fitness function with makespan, the algorithm benefits from the ability to find the solution that performs best on load balance among a set of solutions with the same makespan. More importantly, the interaction between makespan and TLB helps the algorithm to minimize makespan in the same time. Secondly, Min-min and Max-min methods are used to produce promising individuals at the beginning of evolution, leading to noticeable improvement of evolution efficiency. We evaluated LAGA on several task scheduling problems and compared with a Min-min, Max-min improved version of genetic algorithm (MMGA), which does not use the TLB strategy. The results show that LAGA can obtain very competitive results with good load balancing properties, and outperform MMGA in both makespan and TLB objectives. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.

Speech enhancement is crucial for speech recognition accuracy. How to eliminate the effect of the noise constitutes a challenging problem in speech processing. This paper presents a new technique for speech enhancement in a noisy environment based on the empirical mode decomposition (EMD) algorithm and wavelet threshold. With the EMD, the noise speech signals can be decomposed into a sum of the band-limited function called intrinsic mode functions (IMFs), which is a zero-mean AM-FM component. Then wavelet threshold of the IMF components can be used to eliminate the effect of the noise for speech enhancement. Experimental results show that the proposed speech enhancement by de-noising algorithm is possible to achieve an excellent balance between suppresses noise effectively and preserves as many target characteristics of original signal as possible. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Non-subsampled contourlet transform (NSCT) is the combination of the multi-scale analysis and multi-directional analysis in processing high-dimensional signals and has better approximation precision and better sparse description. A novel and efficient fusion method of infrared image and visible image based on NSCT is proposed. Firstly, source fusion images can be decomposed into low-frequency coefficients and high-frequency coefficients using the NSCT. For the low-frequency coefficients, the average fusion algorithm is used. For the each directional high frequency sub-band coefficients, the larger value and region average gradient maximum criterion is used to select the better coefficients for fusion. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can achieve better result compared with the traditional image fusion algorithms. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Search-based method using meta-heuristic algorithms is a hot topic in automatic test data generation. In this paper, we develop an automatic test data generating tool named particle swarm optimization data generation tool (PSODGT). The PSODGT is characterized by the following two features. First, the PSODGT adopts the condition-decision coverage (C/DC) as the criterion of software testing, aiming to build an efficient test data set that covers all conditions. Second, the PSODGT uses a particle swarm optimization (PSO) approach to generate test data set. In addition, a new position initialization technique is developed for PSO. Instead of initializing the test data randomly, the proposed technique uses the previously-found test data that can reach the target condition as the initial positions so that the search speed of PSODGT can be further accelerated. The PSODGT is tested on four practical programs. Experimental results show that the proposed PSO approach is promising. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.
