Carbon steels either with or without dispersed fine voids were deformed in compression at elevated temperatures and at various strain rates. All the flow curves exhibited typical feature of those accompanied by occurrence of work softening due to dynamic recrystallization. The deformation behavior, however, clearly changed by the presence of voids. The yield stresses and maximum flow stresses of the carbon steel with voids became higher compared with those without voids. Still more, the dispersed fine voids delayed the onset of dynamic recrystallization. The shape and distribution of the voids drastically changed depending on the testing condition, i.e., smaller void size and lower aspect ratio of the void shape were achieved at the lower strain rate and at higher temperature. The effects of the dispersed fine voids on high temperature deformation behavior were discussed in relation with dynamic recrystallization, grain boundary migration, grain boundary sliding and relaxation.

This paper develops a new framework for the analysis of byproduct gas supply in iron and steel industry. Based on the online theory, this paper studies the online balance assignment problem of the byproduct gas. In the production process, the online decision maker makes decisions to balance the supply of byproduct gas in the online case. Under some reasonable assumptions, the paper constructs a balance assignment model of the byproduct gas to solve the balance range unknown problem. First, this researcher attempts to analyze the special nature of the offline case and the characteristics of the online case under different scenes. Then the paper designs an online balance strategy with a competitive ratio of (1+3M/m)/4 without the knowledge of supply interval. This study provides some ideas and theories for the balance assignment and use of the byproduct in manufacture industry.

Feature selection is an NP-hard problem from the viewpoint of algorithm design and it is one of the main open problems in pattern recognition. In this paper, we propose a new evolutionary-incremental framework for feature selection. The proposed framework can be applied on an ordinary evolutionary algorithm (EA) such as genetic algorithm (GA) or invasive weed optimization (IWO). This framework proposes some generic modifications on ordinary EAs to be compatible with the variable length of solutions. In this framework, the solutions related to the primary generations have short length. Then, the length of solutions may be increased through generations gradually. In addition, our evolutionary-incremental framework deploys two new operators called addition and deletion operators which change the length of solutions randomly. For evaluation of the proposed framework, we use that for feature selection in the application of face recognition. In this regard, we applied our feature selection method on a robust face recognition algorithm which is based on the extraction of Gabor coefficients. Experimental results show that our proposed evolutionary-incremental framework can select a few number of features from existing thousands features efficiently. Comparison result of the proposed methods with the previous methods shows that our framework is comprehensive, robust, and well-defined to apply on many EAs for feature selection.

Duo to the periodicity of farm cropping, harvesting, seeding and spraying, the farm vehicle often operates the repetitive task. This paper considers the problem of iterative learning control for farm vehicle trajectory tracking. Two-wheel mobile robot kinematic model of farm vehicle is first established, and then the D-type iterative learning control law is designed. The convergence of the proposed iterative learning control law for farm vehicle is analyzed. It is shown that perfect tracking performance of farm vehicle can be obtained after some iteration. Two examples are also given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

With the raising of requirement of power grid operation to voltage control and reactive power management level, automatic voltage control (AVC) becomes a hot spot in the research. Due to the constraints in the management mode, the applied research of AVC is hitherto a blank in North America power grids. An AVC system, which is suitable to special management modes of a certain interconnected power grid in Northeast U. S. and can meet the demand of on-line operation, is designed and implemented. In the designed system, phase shifter models are added into power flow modules and during the computation of control strategy by optimal power flow (OPF) the static security constraints after the assumed faults are considered. Both the data and assessment results of long-term on-line trail-operation show that the reactive power and voltage level of the interconnected power grid can be improved by applying the designed AVC system, and both security and economy of the interconnected power grid can be enhanced.

Small scale wind turbines can be used in indoor facilities that are mainly either stand-alone or grid-connected systems. With grid contiguous turbines, the output from the wind turbine is directly connected to the existing mains electricity supply. For this purpose Improved Honey Bee Mating Optimization (IHBMO) technique is considered as an optimization algorithm to power system. Also the wind farm in form of doubly fed induction generator penetrating is formulated into a power system. Several technical issues arise with the close spacing of multiple wind turbines in a wind farm, individually one with a severely limited spatial footprint. Wake effect is one of the most important agents under consideration that can lead to fluctuations in the output power of a wind farm and significantly decrease its energy production. Thus it is desired to determine optimal positions for installing multiple wind turbines. In this paper we minimize the fuel cost and emission of thermal units simultaneously by changing the location and varying the sizes of wind farm. Simulation results show the effectiveness of our propose algorithm.
