In terms of the difficulty of vehicle tracking in complex environment of the visual surveillance system, an object tracking algorithm is proposed for the applications in practical visual surveillance systems for intelligent traffic. A block-based Gaussian mixture background modeling method for object detection is presented to reduce the computational complexity of moving vehicle object abstraction. An adaptive tracking algorithm fused with color features and texture features is described to better adapt the traffic scene variation. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively deal with the complex urban traffic conditions and the tracking performance is better than the conventional particle filter method and single feature based non-adaptive object tracking method.

This paper studied the calibration method for a type of embedded smart sensors which are integrated with inertial, magnetic and vision sensors. A set of calibration and modeling methods which are suitable for the low cost applications have been proposed. For the deterministic items and nondeterministic items, we used the method of modulus matching of the input vectors and the method of time series analysis to calibrate and modeling them respectively;for the relative rotation between the accelerometers' frame and the camera frame, we proposed a calibrating method which is based on the gravity vector and plumb line. The experimental and simulation results demonstrated the practicability and effectiveness of these methods.

By using this embedded smart sensor, we proposed a attitude determination method which is based on the quaternion and the epipolar geometry. The ultrasonic motor (USM) possesses heavy nonlinearities which vary with driving conditions and load-dependent characteristics such as the dead-zone. In this paper, an identification method for the rotary travelling-wave type ultrasonic motor (RTWUSM) with dead-zone is proposed based on a modified Hammerstein model structure. The driving voltage contributing effect on the nonlinearities of the RTWUSM was transformed to the change of dynamic parameters against the driving voltage. The dead-zone of the RTWUSM is identified based upon the above transformation. Experiment results showed good agreement be- tween the output of the proposed model and actual measured output.
