Tongue image classification plays a very important role in the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) modernization. However, the number of training samples lab.led by the authoritative TCM experts is small since it is a hard work to confirm the type of the samples, which need a lot of time and human lab.r. Meantime the separable boundary obtained by these lab.led samples is rough and imprecise. Meantime unlab.led samples are abundant and easy to obtain. Transductive support vector machine (TSVM) is a method to reduce human lab.r and improve accuracy since the unlab.led samples can be joined to train the classifier to provide much more classification information during training. The experimental results show that the TSVM classifier can improve the right classification rate so it is a promising method in the TCM study.

Auditory masking is aggressively exploited by algorithms used for the lossy compression of audio signals. In compression of audio signals, the intent is to hide the noise introduced by the coding below the masking threshold, thus making the noise inaudible. This will render the coding process transparent, enabling better compression without audible degradation of the signal. In this article, we show that using masking properties of the hearing system allows for improved noise reduction. A novel method for noise reduction in speech signals is proposed. This method is shown to outperform non-auditory based methods, and compares well with other perceptually motivated noise reduction methods. It is found that the proposed method, Soulodre's PNRF combined with the ITU's PEAQ auditory model, have more musical noise but less signal distortion than the method proposed by Tsoukalas, which obtain marginally better results in informal testing results.

In this paper, we address the problem of automatic red-eye detection and correction. A four step, novel approach is presented where the first step consists of face detection in the input image. In the second step the face image is converted to gray-scale image in such a way that facilitates the detection of iris pair and its corresponding radius values. In third and fourth steps iris pair is located, and the central points of irises and their corresponding radius values are utilized to desaturate the redness inside iris regions. The desaturation scheme is adaptive to the severity of redness. Images with different severity level and size of redness are used to test the robustness of the proposed scheme. We also compare our correction schemes with two existing automatic methods.
