This paper introduces a new class of switching vector median filter. The proposed algorithm first uses four directional masks to analyze the color difference between the central pixel and its neighborhood pixels in the RGB color space and classify each color pixel into noisy pixel or noise-free one, and then employs the standard vector median filtering operations in the detected noisy locations to restore the corrupted pixels and leave the noise-free ones unchanged. The simulation results show that the proposed method excellently suppresses impulsive noise as well as preserving the image details well, and significantly outperforms the existing vector filtering solutions in terms of both the objective measures and the perceptual visual quality.

present an application of a novel enhancement technique for enhancing medical images generated from X-rays. The method presented in this study is based on a nonlinear partial differential equation (PDE) model, Kramer's PDE model. The usefulness of this method is investigated by experimental results. We apply this method to a medical X-ray image. For comparison, the X-ray image is also processed using classic Perona-Malik PDE model and Catte PDE model. Although the Perona-Malik model and Catte PDE model could also enhance the image, the quality of the enhanced images is considerably inferior compared with the enhanced image using Kramer's PDE model. The study suggests that the Kramer's PDE model is capable of enhancing medical X-ray images, which will make the X-ray images more reliable.

In this paper, we propose a new image codec, which called embedded zerotree wavelet coefficients envelop coding (EZWCEC). The coefficients envelop is characterized by describing the global tendency of the significant wavelet coefficients. Based on the empirical analysis and experimental results, our EZWCEC algorithm restores the trend of the significant wavelet coefficients and estimates the magnitude of some insignificant coefficients on the decoder. Unlike other zerotree coding algorithms such as Said and Pearlman's SPIHT using three lists, EZWCEC only uses two lists during encoding and decoding. So the memory requirement for the hardware implementation is reduced significantly. Although PSNR values for EZWCEC are lower than SPIHT's and JPEG2000's, our experiment results have shown that EZWCEC can dramatically improve the visual quality of reconstructed at low bit rates (e.g., below 0.1bpp).

Most of existing approaches on event detection in sports video are general audience oriented. The extracted events are then presented to the audience without further analysis. However, professionals, such as soccer coaches, are more interested in the tactics used in the events. In this paper, we present a novel approach to extract tactic information from the goal event in broadcast soccer video and present the goal event in a tactic mode to the coaches and sports professionals. We first extract goal events with far-view shots based on analysis and alignment of web-casting text and broadcast video. For a detected goal event, we employ a multi-object detection and tracking algorithm to obtain the players and ball trajectories in the shot. Compared with existing work, we proposed an effective tactic representation called aggregate trajectory which is constructed based on multiple trajectories using a novel analysis of temporal-spatial interaction among the players and the ball. The interactive relationship with play region information and hypothesis testing for trajectory temporal-spatial distribution are exploited to analyze the tactic patterns in a hierarchical coarse-to-fine framework. The experimental results on the data of FIFA World Cup 2006 are promising and demonstrate our approach is effective. Copyright 2007 ACM.

Rotationally symmetric triangulation (RST) sensor has more flexibility and less uncertainty than traditional laser triangulation because of the abaxial rotationally symmetric optical system. Error and uncertain factors in this kind of sensors are studied in this paper, especially the system uncertainty factors from the error of manufacturing and adjustment. Geometric error model of RST which met the Scheimpflug condition is presented. Based on this model, it is shown that an incident laser spot which departures the rotational axis of the optical system will influent the measurement result quite a lot, and also a tilt detector and optical system aberration will have a smaller effect. At last, Simulation and experiment results are given to verify the analysis.

Knowledge transfer for the classification of very high resolution panchromatic data over urban area is investigated. Invariant feature are extracted with some morphological processing. The well-known spectral angle mapper (SAM) is proposed as a measure of transferability. Support vector machines (SVMs) are used to fit a separating hyperplane in a vector space defined by the extracted spatial features. The hyperplane is then used to classify other data set without any new training. Several experiments are presented. Results confirm the usefulness of spatial feature when the classification of two images from two separates data set is considered.

The paper proposes a new network intrusion detection system based on fuzzy neural network by redesigning the intrusion detection system's architecture and arithmetic. In order to overcome the difficulty of specifying the membership function of rules depending on experiences of experts in multi-dimension space.,neural network is introduced to distinguish non-linearly input/output characteristics of complex system and to generate rule sets and membership functions automatically. The new architecture adopts the network processor to collect and analyse the data in the low layer of network.,and to establish a prototype system. This system demonstrated in this experiment appears to be better intrusion detection ability, moreover, which is able to detect unknown attack and plays down false alarms.
