Numerical modelling of gas outburst from coal:a review from control parameters to the initiation process

Among all methods for investigating the complex phenomenon of the coal and gas outburst,numerical modelling is the most comprehensive one that can consider all involved parameters and simulate the complex multi-physical *** main aim of this paper is to review recent numerical modelling studies concerning this disastrous phenomenon observed in coal *** paper aims to analyse these studies comprehensively and identify any existing research gaps that could be addressed in future research *** this end,the concepts and equations that have been used in previous studies to simulate the solid and fluid behaviour during outburst initiation and how these equations are coupled to consider multiphysi-cal interactions were *** strengths and deficiencies in past outburst modelling work were ***,potential research topics for future studies were discussed in three categories;looking into the outburst phenomenon in the scale of the particles which is mostly focused on the discrete element method,conservation of the energy as a method to quantitively assess outburst initiation,and the application of statistics in both applying the heterogeneity in the models and assessing the possibility of the outburst occurrence.

Along with the development of smart energy, we take typical integrated energy systems (IES) into research considering various coupling modes and constraints, building a model of the IES for combined cooling, heating and power system, and propose the using of gas micro-turbine as a power supply. On this basis, the three dimension particle swarm optimization algorithm is applied to conduct operational and management research in one typical day, which provides a reference for the economic and low-carbon planning and operation of the IES, moreover demonstrates the superiority and effectiveness of the integrated energy systems compared to the traditional discrete energy systems. Furthermore, the paper gives the effective steps of allocation and optimization methods and vision of integrated energy systems. © 2024 IEEE.

Asteroids,as the primitive building blocks for the formation of our solar system,could reveal its evolution mechanism,and have attracted more and more attention from the public and professional institutions in recent *** physical properties,such as rotational period,spin axis and overall shape,can be inverted from ground-and space-based photometric *** the inversion process is very time-consuming,this paper combines the genetic algorithm with the Levenberg–Marquardt(LM) algorithm,and presents a hybrid optimization algorithm based on a Cellinoid shape model for the inversion of rotational periods,which greatly improves the inversion *** proposed hybrid algorithm is applied to the synthetic lightcurves generated for an assumed Cellinoid shape model and the inverted rotational period results are consistent with the preset ones with a reduced search time,compared with the LM ***,multiple numerical experiments on the periods are performed on lightcurves and sparse observations of real asteroids to confirm that the proposed method can perform well in improving computational efficiency.

In renewable-dominant power systems, renewable energy sources such as wind power and photovoltaics become the main contributors to electric power and power generation. Due to the wind and solar resources across different time and spatial contexts, as well as the different types of load response resources, their uncertainties differ significantly. Compared to traditional power systems, renewable-dominant power systems not only experience a notable increase in uncertainty on the power supply side, but also exhibit significant changes in the characteristics of uncertainty on both supply and demand sides. Focusing on the uncertainty on both supply and demand sides of renewable-dominant power systems, this paper finds the decision dependent uncertainty on both supply and demand sides, reveals the mechanism of the decision dependent uncertainty on both supply and demand sides, puts forward a quantitative characterization method of the decision dependent uncertainty by using mathematical modelling method and joint probability distribution theory, and realizes the optimal solution. According to the example simulation results, the proposed method and constructed model can effectively quantify and characterize the decision dependent uncertainty on both supply and demand sides of renewable-dominant power systems. Moreover, the computational results show a high degree of agreement with actual conditions, thereby validating the rationality and correctness of the research methods employed. © Energynautics GmbH.

The discontinuous dynamical problem of multi-point contact and collision in multi-body system has always been a hot and difficult issue in this *** on the Gauss’principle of least constraint,a unified optimization model for multibody system dynamics with multi-point contact and collision is *** paper presents the study of the numerical solution scheme,in which particle swarm optimization method is used to deal with the corresponding optimization *** article also presents the comparison of the Gauss optimization method(GOM)and the hybrid linear complementarity method(*** differential algebraic equations(DAEs)and linear complementarity problems(LCP)),commonly used to solve the dynamic contact problem of multibody systems with bilateral *** results illustrate that,the GOM has the same advantage of dynamical modelling with LCP and when the redundant constraint exists,the GOM always has a unique solution and so no additional processing is needed,whereas the corresponding DAE-LCP method may have singular cases with multiple solutions or no *** numerical examples,the GOM is verified to effectively solve the dynamics of multibody systems with redundant unilateral and bilateral constraints without additional redundancy *** GOM can also be applied to the optimal control of systems in the future and combined with the parameter optimization of systems to handle dynamic *** work given provides the dynamics and control of the complex system with a new train of thought and method.

In cases of insufficient lighting conditions, the obtained images of optical systems usually suffer from heavy noise, which subsequently has a negative impact on tasks like image segmentation, target detection, and edge extraction. Image denoising requires preserving the integrity of original information while eliminating irrelevant data from the signal. Regularization is an effective way to improve the performance of denoising algorithms, it achieves this by introducing additional constraints to ensure stable solutions. In this paper, we propose a hybrid regularization method which is based on the weighted combination of the L0-norm and L1-norm of image gradients. In order to obtain reliable denoising results, we have also developed a highly efficient alternately minimization algorithm to solve the resulting complex optimization problem. The algorithm utilizes variable splitting and Lagrange multipliers to determine the optimal solution, effectively transforming the initial problem into a simple convex optimization problem and a quadratic optimization problem, which can be rapidly solved in frequency domain. In the end, we conducted experiments to prove the efficiency of the proposed method. The results show that it is stable, efficient and the quality of the denoised images is comparable to some state-of-the-art methods. © 2024 SPIE.

Practical continuous-variable quantum key distribution with feasible optimization parameters

Continuous-variable quantum key distribution(CV-QKD) offers an approach to achieve a potential high secret key rate(SKR) in metropolitan areas. There are several challenges in developing a practical CV-QKD system from the laboratory to the real world. One of the most significant points is that it is really hard to adapt different practical optical fiber conditions for CV-QKD systems with unified hardware. Thus,how to improve the performance of practical CV-QKD systems in the field without modification of the hardware is very important. Here, a systematic optimization method, combining the modulation variance and error correction matrix optimization, is proposed to improve the performance of a practical CV-QKD system with a restricted capacity of postprocessing. The effect of restricted postprocessing capacity on the SKR is modeled as a nonlinear programming problem with modulation variance as an optimization parameter,and the selection of an optimal error correction matrix is studied under the same scheme. The results show that the SKR of a CV-QKD system can be improved by 24% and 200% compared with previous frequently used optimization methods theoretically with a transmission distance of 50 km. Furthermore, the experimental results verify the feasibility and robustness of the proposed method, where the achieved optimal SKR achieved practically deviates <1.6% from the theoretical optimal value. Our results pave the way to deploy high-performance CV-QKD in the real world.

The fault transient characteristics of power grids have undergone a fundamental transformation as a consequence of the advent of hybrid scale access to power grids by new energy sources. Nevertheless, the existing stand-alone equivalent model is unable to accurately characterise the fault transient characteristics of the hybrid light-water-wind electric field/cluster. Furthermore, the simulation computation of the stand-alone equivalent model is considerable in scale and the simulation efficiency is low. This paper proposes a particle swarm neural network-based clustered equivalent modelling method for a light-water-wind hybrid electric field. Firstly, a transient model of the light-water-wind hybrid electric field is established, and the characteristic influence factors of faults are constructed through theoretical analysis. These include the distance between the light-water-wind hybrid electric field and the point of common coupling (PCC), the input of current limiting measures on the DC side, the light, the water speed, the wind speed, and the reactive power at the outlet. Subsequently, the Euclidean distance is calculated for the set of characteristic influencing factors, and the initial centre of clustering of wind turbines is extracted based on the improved maximum-minimum distance method. Ultimately, the clustering equivalent modelling is accomplished through the utilisation of the aforementioned feature influencing factors and the classification initial centre as the training set. The simulation results show that compared with the single-machine equivalent model, The simulation error has been reduced from the order of magnitude of 10-2 p.u. to the order of magnitude of 10-4 p.u., while the simulation efficiency of this method is has been reduced from the order of magnitude of 10-2 s to the order of magnitude of 10-4 s. © 2024 IEEE.

Coastal zones are dynamic,rich environments,now densely populated,and increasingly challenged by human and climatechange *** long-term integrated coastal zone planning is needed to ensure sustainable environmental protection and economic *** this study,we reviewed the history of coastal zone planning since its birth in the 1950s based on the literature retrieved from the Web of Science(Core Collection)from 2000–2023,then summarized the tools and spatial allocation methods commonly used in the planning process,and finally proposed potential solutions to the challenges *** results show that after decades of development,coastal zone planning has changed from a decentralized activity to a targeted and integrated one,with an increasing emphasis on the ecosystem approach and the use of multiple planning *** analysis techniques and environmental modelling software have become increasingly *** programming and overlay analysis are common approaches when performing spatial optimization,but land-sea interactions and planning in the marine parts still lack in-depth analysis and practical *** are also aware that the challenges posed by the integration of administrative hierarchies,scoping and conservation objectives,stakeholder participation,consideration of social dimensions,and climate change are pervasive throughout the planning *** is an urgent need to develop more flexible and accurate spatial modelling tools,as well as more efficient participatory methods,and to focus on the holistic nature of the land-sea system to create more resilient and sustainable coastal zones.
