With the rapid advancement of large language models, academic topic identification and topic evolution analysis are crucial for enhancing AI’s understanding capabilities. Dynamic topic analysis provides a powerful approach to capturing and understanding the temporal evolution of topics in large-scale datasets. This paper presents a two-stage dynamic topic analysis framework that incorporates convex optimization to improve topic consistency, sparsity, and interpretability. In Stage 1, a two-layer non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) model is employed to extract annual topics and identify key terms. In Stage 2, a convex optimization algorithm refines the dynamic topic structure using the convex NMF (cNMF) model, further enhancing topic integration and stability. Applying the proposed method to IEEE journal abstracts from 2004 to 2022 effectively identifies and quantifies emerging research topics, such as COVID-19 and digital twins. By optimizing sparsity differences in the clustering feature space between traditional and emerging research topics, the framework provides deeper insights into topic evolution and ranking analysis. Moreover, the NMF-cNMF model demonstrates superior stability in topic consistency. At sparsity levels of 0.4, 0.6, and 0.9, the proposed approach improves topic ranking stability by 24.51%, 56.60%, and 36.93%, respectively. The make-to-order (MTO) manufacturers generally make production plans based on orders, which can help enterprises effectively avoid market risks, reduce market pressure and improve competitiveness. However, due to the characteristics of MTO production mode, the order static scheduling problem and rush order dynamic rescheduling problem have become more and more important for these MTO manufacturers. Therefore, in this paper, we take the packaging production line of a typical carbon black production enterprise as the research background to study the carbon black production line static and dynamic multiobjective scheduling problem. Firstly, multiobjective optimization models of both order static scheduling and rush order dynamic rescheduling are established. Then the improved MOEA/D algorithm combined the heuristic algorithm based on heuristic rules and discrete dynamic local search is developed to solve these two models. Based on the actual production data, eight instances of order static scheduling problems of different scales and four instances of rush order dynamic rescheduling problems of different scales are constructed respectively. Experimental results illustrate that the improved MOEA/D is effective and superior in solving these two problems.

Series of twenty-four compounds was the field for applying multi-parameter optimization (MPO) methods and qualitative approximations of structural activity relationships in order to determine the role of various physico-chemical and quantum descriptors used in QSAR modeling as independent variables. Anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) inhibitory activity was considered as a component in this study. In order to illustrate the quantitative relationships between the molecular descriptors and the activity of pyrazolone derivatives, we have applied a multiple linear regression (MLR) procedure. By adopting cross-validation with the leave-one-out method, we could estimate the predictability of models. Our results suggest a QSAR model based on the following descriptors: S, V, LogP, POL, Ref, HOMO, LUMO, E, , HBA, PSA and NRB, for the inhibitory activities against ALK. Results show high correlation between experimental and predicted activity values, indicating the validation and the good quality of the QSAR model. The necessity of managing a production system with less cost and pollution in such a competitive world has enticed the attention of many researchers. This paper deals with a multi-state two-machine flow-shop scheduling problem under Time-Of-Use electricity tariffs. The main issue is to assign a set of jobs to available time slots with different energy costs to minimize the total energy consumption costs. For this purpose, a new linear programming (LP) model is proposed, and several numerical results are solved using CPLEX Studio 12.9.0 solver to evaluate the effciency of the proposed model for the problem. The obtained results demonstrate that CPLEX solver is not able to find the optimal solution for the problems as large as 20 jobs and 90 periods during the 3600 seconds time limitation.

Due to the technological advances of micro-electro-mechanical sensor and wireless sensor network, gait analysis has been widely adopted as an significant indicator of mobility impairment for stroke survivors. This paper aims to propose an wearable computing based gait impairment evaluation method with distribute inertial sensor unit (IMU) mounted on human lower limbs. Temporal-spacial gait metrics were evaluated on more than twenty post stroke patients and ten healthy control subjects in the 10-meters-walk-test. Experimental results shown that significant differences exist between stroke patients and healthy subject in terms of various gait metrics. The extracted gait metrics are consistent with clinical observations, and the position estimation accuracy has been validated by optical device. The proposed method has the potential to serve as an objective and cost-efficient tool for rehabilitation-assisting therapy for post stroke survivors in clinical practice. © 2019, ICST Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering.

We study a multi-objective scheduling problem on two dedicated processors. The aim is to minimize simultaneously the makespan, the total tardiness and the total completion time. This NP-hard problem requires the use of well-adapted methods. For this, we adapted genetic algorithms to multi-objective case. Three methods are presented to solve this problem. The first is aggregative, the second is Pareto and the third is non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II (NSGA-II). We proposed some adapted lower bounds for each criterion to evaluate the quality of the found results on a large set of instances. Indeed, these bounds also make it possible to determine the dominance of one algorithm over another based on the different results found by each of them. We used two metrics to measure the quality of the Pareto front: the hypervolume indicator (HV) and the number of solutions in the optimal front (ND). Qualitative and Quantitative structure activity relationship (SAR/QSAR) analysis was applied to eighteen Quercetin derivatives using a combination of various physicochemical, steric, electronic, and structural molecular descriptors. A multiple linear regression (MLR) procedure was used to model the relationships between molecular descriptors and the chemotherapeutic activity of the Quercetin derivatives. The stepwise regression method was used to derive the most significant models as a calibration model for predicting the inhibitory activity of this class of molecules. The best QSAR models were further validated by a leave one out technique as well as by the calculation of statistical parameters for the established theoretical models. High agreement between experimental and predicted inhibitory values, obtained in the validation procedure, indicated the good quality of the derived QSAR models. This paper presents a new method of measuring hidden quality costs that are associated with a supplier. The hidden quality costs are the costs that could be identified, but hard to be quantified. Quantification of these costs is conducted based on several existing methods, such as Taguchi's quality loss function. This function has been proved to be successful over the last fifteen years for the improvement of product quality and process performance. It's a way to measure losses due to variability from a target value. To determine the target value for a product, most Taguchi experiments present it as a single quantitative quality characteristic. Whereas, the supplier's target value would be also qualitative. In this context the variability from a multiple qualitative quality characteristic is not common, due to its uncertainty and imprecision. Therefore, this paper presents an alternative approach for tackling such a problem using the Topsis method, and Taguchi's quality loss function. The paper also presents the validation of the proposed model through a case study.

University course timetabling problem refers to schedule a set of lectures, tutorials and practical works to a limited number of teachers, classrooms and time slots over a planning horizon while satisfying a set of hard and soft constraints. In this paper, we investigate Variable Neighborhood Descent approach to tackle a specific course timetabling problem related to the case of the Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences of Sfax in Tunisia. The objective is to minimize the total number of holes and the number of isolated lessons for all student groups. We have developed eleven specific neighborhood structures: six of these are designed for correcting the holes, while the other five are designed for adjusting the isolated lessons. Computations are made on real instances and numerical results show that our approach outperforms the existing solution with the elimination of 52.47 % of holes and isolated sessions on average. © 2017 Elsevier B.V.

In the hospital sector, simply looking for suppliers offering the lowest prices is not “efficient sourcing” any more. They undertake a thorough reflection on the procurement strategy to follow with various suppliers, of medicines and medical equipments. There is often a tussle between choosing a right sourcing strategy which says, whether the hospital should go for single or multiple sourcing. In this context we propose a mathematical model for supplier's selection problem by taking into account three criteria to optimize. The objective of the proposed model is to make a comparison between numerical results, obtained as a solution, for multiple criteria supplier selection problem. This model is developed to help making decision, to either one vendor (single sourcing), or many vendors (multiple sourcing). And then a comparison is made between their performances in terms of the domains in which each mode excels.
