The paper focuses on the implementation of a model based predictive control(MBPC) method, for Continuous Stirred Tank Reactors. First, the modelling problem of a single irreversible exothermic reaction, taking place in a perfectly mixed continuously stirred tank reactor(CSTR) is presented. The dynamic model consists of differential material and energy balance equations. The control strategy is investigated and evaluated by performing simulations and analyzing the results. The disturbance rejection capacity of the control system(regulatory control performances) have been tested and compared with those obtained using a classical Proportional Integral Derivative(PID) based controller. The results show that this control strategy has good performances and can be efficiently used to control the CSTR.

In the papermaking industry, the stability of the pulp concentration determines the quality of the paper. However, the change of the pulp concentration is in a state of fluctuation for a long time and the pulp concentration control system has the characteristics of large lag, non-linearity and time-varying. It is difficult to achieve the desired control effect by using the traditional PID controller in the concentration control process. Therefore, use of dynamic matrix control algorithm to design the controller can solve the problem of disturbance and modeling complexity. In this paper, dynamic matrix control algorithm and PID control simulation results show that the dynamic matrix control algorithm has better control quality. The output satisfies the constraint limit with higher probability, and the output constraints and performance index can be met. © 2018, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

This paper studies the delay robustness problem for tracking control of second-order systems subject to unknown input delay and uncertain nonlinearity under PID control. The basic issue is to find the largest allowable input delay under PID control can achieve robust tracking in spite of the uncertain nonlinearity. First, the uncertain nonlinear delay system under PID control can be transferred into a delay system with time-varying uncertainty. Second, we develop the largest allowable time delay under fixed PID controller parameters by solving the generalized eigenvalue problem (GEVP). Third, a genetic algorithm (GA) is proposed to achieve the largest allowable delay and the corresponding PID parameters, which consists with the solutions under GEVP. The first-order uncertain nonlinear delay systems under PI control is investigated as well. Finally, two examples are given to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Optically induced electrokinetics(OEK)-based technologies,which integrate the high-resolution dynamic addressability of optical tweezers and the high-throughput capability of electrokinetic forces,have been widely used to manipulate,assemble,and separate biological and non-biological entities in parallel on scales ranging from micrometers to ***,simultaneously introducing optical and electrical energy into an OEK chip may induce a problematic temperature increase,which poses the potential risk of exceeding physiological conditions and thus inducing variations in cell behavior or activity or even irreversible cell damage during ***,we systematically measure the temperature distribution and changes in an OEK chip arising from the projected images and applied alternating current(AC)voltage using an infrared *** have found that the average temperature of a projected area is influenced by the light color,total illumination area,ratio of lighted regions to the total controlled areas,and amplitude of the AC *** an example,optically induced thermocapillary flow is triggered by the light image-induced temperature gradient on a photosensitive substrate to realize fluidic hydrogel *** studies show that the projected light pattern needs to be properly designed to satisfy specific application requirements,especially for applications related to cell manipulation and assembly.

In this paper, we first consider a pinning node selection and control gain co-design problem for complex networks. A necessary and sufficient condition for the synchronization of the pinning controlled networks at a homogeneous state is provided. A quantitative model is built to describe the pinning costs and to formulate the pinning node selection and control gain design problem for different scenarios into the corresponding optimization problems. Algorithms to solve these problems efficiently are presented. Based on the developed results, we take the existence of a malicious attacker into consideration and a resource allocation model for the defender and the malicious attacker is described. We set up a leader-follower Stackelberg game framework to study the behaviour of both sides and the equilibrium of this security game is investigated. Numerical examples and simulations are presented to demonstrate the main results. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Temporal-spatial cross-correlation analysis of non-stationary near-surface wind speed time series

Temporal-spatial cross-correlation analysis of non-stationary wind speed time series plays a crucial role in wind field reconstruction as well as in wind pattern ***,the near-surface wind speed time series recorded at different locations are studied using the detrended fluctuation analysis(DFA),and the corresponding scaling exponents are larger than *** indicates that all these wind speed time series have non-stationary ***,concerning this special feature( i.e.,non-stationarity)of wind signals,a cross-correlation analysis method,namely detrended cross-correlation analysis(DCCA) coefficient,is employed to evaluate the temporal-spatial cross-correlations between non-stationary time series of different anemometer ***,experiments on ten wind speed data synchronously collected by the ten anemometers with equidistant arrangement illustrate that the method of DCCA cross-correlation coefficient can accurately analyze full-scale temporal-spatial cross-correlation between non-stationary time series and also can easily identify the seasonal component,while three traditional cross-correlation techniques(i.e.,Pearson coefficient,cross-correlation function,and DCCA method) cannot give us these information directly.
