Electrical Resistance Tomography (ERT) technique has great prospective in industrial measurement and monitoring with merits of non-intrusive, non-radiant, visualization and etc. However, the application of this technique is restricted by its real-time performance. In this paper, the scheme of the Operating-Strategy-Configurable ERT system based on PXI module instruments has been proposed. The Operating-Strategy-Configurable ERT System can work in different working Strategies including 16-electrodes mode, 8-electrodes mode and 4-electrodes for different flow regime, 16-electrodes mode is used for imaging, 8-electrodes and 4-electrodes mode for regime identification and monitoring The result shows that, when the ERT system is working in dual-plane mode, the sampling speed of each plane is 625 frames/s at 16-electrodes mode, 1562frames/s at 8-electrodes mode, and 3125 frames/s at 4-electrodes mode. It has improved the system real-time performance. The characteristic value which is extracted by the wavelet from the measured data of each cross section shows that the system has a good capacity of identification flow regimes.

We develop a novel virtual stereo vision sensor which contains just single high-speed camera and two reflector sets to measure three-dimensional feature parameters of bubbles in the gas-liquid two-phase flow. The measurement principle of the binocular stereo vision sensor and the virtual stereo vision sensor are analyzed in detail. According to the mathematical model of the virtual stereo vision sensor, the structure parameters of virtual stereo vision sensor are optimized based on the actual size of view field, and the three-dimensional measurement error is analyzed. The three-dimensional modality and motion parameters are tested on the upstream bubble producing appliance. The experimental results show that the three-dimensional distance error of the virtual stereo vision sensor is better than 0.132mm and the relative error is better than 0.5%, and the three-dimensional motion trail of bubble is reconstructed.

Electrical resistance tomography (ERT) techniques have been developed rapidly during the past decades as an advanced measurement and visualization tool. Single drive pattern in ERT could provide an acceptable solution in some applications, while for most complex applications additional information is required for comprehensive understanding of the process under investigation. Recently, individual driven system has been studied for various measurements, but there are poor sensor integration and data fusion approaches in practice. In this paper, any ERT imaging method is considered as a classifier, and then a fuzzy clustering based fusion method has been developed to fuse these classifiers towards better ERT image quality. This proposed method is applied to image the same investigated objectives under eight typical current drive patterns. Simulations show that the proposed method can provide image of higher space resolution than any individual drive pattern.

The investigation of the two-phase flow measurement is important in industrial processes investigation. The research of the flow regimes identification has more significance. As a new instrument, virtual instrument combines computer resources, measurement and control hardware, data analysis and graphical user interface software together, which has a wide range of applications in practice. Neural network and LabVIEW are combined and applied in flow regimes identification, which advance the capability and the developing efficiency of the testing system. This paper introduces the software of gas-water two-phase flow regime on line identification based on LabVIEW with the method of neural networks.

The target is to clear out control variables and requirements for clean small-scale wood pellet combustion (th). Experimental runs were carried out in the form of design of experiments (DOE) with two commercial 15 kW pellet burners, namely a horizontal gas-burner and a conventional horizontal burner in a 20 kW commercial pellet boiler. Analysed variables were fuel power, draught, air flow, and fuel feed period, and researched variables were CO, O2 and efficiency. The target was to identify and characterise separately the magnitude and direction of the effect of each factor. After process identification and variable optimisation, the results shows strong influence of the studied control parameters on the efficiency and the emissions. The effects and interactions between different process variables were rather similar with both burners. The major effects for CO levels were fuel feed and additionally draught affected in case of wood gas combustion. Additionally, the effects on combustion efficiency is described by draught, air feed and fuel feed period. Furthermore, the fuel feed period affected the excess air level in case of direct combustion principle. It was noticed, however, that the combustion properties and optimal parameter values vary significantly between the two cases.
