The computer control system of a steel plant is composed of Siemens S7-400 PLC and configuration software WinCC. In order to achieve real-time control of water flow accurately in quenching process, this paper uses a combination of Smith predictor and PID controller to compensate time delay of system and overcome problems caused by the delay. MATLAB simulation verifies that this method can solve the time delay problem in quenching process, and provide a solution for real-time control of water flow.

The quadrotor unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has been a focus for unmanned aerial vehicles. Ground control system (GCS) is an important part of the quadrotor UAV flight control system, and it can promote the flight performance and safety of quadrotor UAVs. In this paper, a quadrotor UAV GCS is designed and implemented, and the GCS realizes the following functions, including receiving and storing of the flight data, the real-time localization utilizing the customization of electronic maps like MapX and Google Earth, the visual display of flight states via virtual instruments and the waypoint planning. Outdoor experiments have been done to verify the GCS's performance. It can be concluded that the proposed GCS in this paper can work stably, and it can guarantee the integrity of the flight data, the accuracy of the instruments display and map localization.

Due to the increasing cost of energy and the demand of reducing the environmental footprints, energy saving is becoming an important subject in the industry operation. To realize the energy consumption optimization of papermaking, the energy model should be established while the product quality and process model also need to be constructed, which are taken as the constraints for optimization. This paper describes the identification of a forming section of paper machines with Multilayer Perception (MLP) Neural Networks. The process model, product quality model and energy consumption model are established for the energy saving in papermaking. The real industrial step tests are performed and the data are used to model training and validation. The models are validated by means of mean-squared error (MSE), fit measure and Akaike's Final Prediction Error (FPE). The results show the effectiveness of the established models, which are suitable for the next work of energy optimization.

This paper concerns the asynchronously switched control problem for a class of switched stochastic systems with time delays under an average dwell time (ADT) scheme. By further allowing the Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional to increase during the running time of the active subsystem with the mismatched controller, the mean-square exponential stability condition for the resulting closed-loop system is .rstly derived. Then, the corresponding solvability condition for desired controllers is established. Finally, two numerical examples are exploited to show the validity and potential of the developed result.

Smith predictor is presented for monitor finishing automatic width control (M-FAWC) system to deal with the large transport time-delay. With the minimal settling time with a constraint, the optimal parameters of Smith predictor are tuned based on the mutative scale chaos optimization method to meet high performance of strip width. The simulation results of the M-FAWC system show that the optimized Smith predictor has better dynamic performance than the conventional PID controller, and the chaos optimization algorithm is effective.

In recent years, quadrotor helicopter has become a hotspot of the research about unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The data acquisition of the vehicle's attitude and position in real time is important to achieve autonomous flight control for quadrotor UAVs. In this paper, an ARM embedded system is employed as the main controller, and an attitude heading reference system (AHRS) is utilized as the main onboard sensor. By using C++ programming under Linux operation system, the data acquisition and processing of the AHRS is implemented, and then the attitude and position data of the quadrotor UAV are obtained in real time to provide reliable flight state information for the autonomous flight control. The on-board flight data is sent to ground control system and stored via a communication module based on the UDP network protocol.

Electromagnetic flow meters based on the principles of Faraday's laws of induction have been used successfully in many industries. In order to achieve velocity profile measurements in single phase and multiphase flows with non-uniform velocity profiles, a novel Imaging Electromagnetic Flow meter (IEF) has been developed which is described in this paper. The novel electromagnetic flow meter uses a microcontroller as the processing core to achieve the function of driving the uniform magnetic field, acquiring voltage signals with electronic system, matrix inversion calculation and result display. The work undertaken in the paper demonstrates that an imaging electromagnetic flow meter for liquid velocity profile measurement is an instrument that is highly suited for control via a microcontroller.
