A geometric method of bubble volume computing based on 2-D high-speed image were introduced in this paper. An ellipsoid was constructed with three semi-axis extracted from bubble image. The volume of ellipsoid is approximately equal to the size of bubble. Correction methods are also described for error reducing. The feasibility and universal applicability of the geometric method have been verified by volume contrast and standard deviation analysis. Finally, gas volume fraction in two-phase flow can be calculated.

Image matching method plays an important role in the research of bubble tracking and bubble rising velocity. A method of wavelet transform and cross-correlation technique combination was developed for image matching. A method for how to get the template windows were detailed at the beginning, which was based on label sticking. The template window also should appropriately adjust to meet the requirement of wavelet transform. The experimental results have demonstrated that the matching method of wavelet transform & cross-correlation has a reliable accuracy and sharply reduced the computing time over the conventional cross-correlation technique.

In petroleum industry, oil-water two-phase flows widely exist in production wells, and their measurements are of significance in oil well logging, transportations and etc. One of the techniques in common use in oil-water two-phase flow measurement is the differential pressure (DP) meters with a theoretic model connecting the mass flowrate of the mixture with the differential pressures generated by the throttling element installed inside the pipeline. In this work, a series of oil-water two-phase flow experiments were conducted in a horizontal pipe of 50 mm diameter and the flowrates were measured by a V-cone meter with a diameter ratio of 0.65. Available correlations of DP meters that developed from gas-water two-phase flows are adopted on the analysis of the measured data from the V-cone meter. A modified correlation is proposed based on the analysis and comparison between the available correlations. The experiments results have shown that the proposed method achieves better accuracy in oil-water two-phase flow measurement than other DP correlations.

A multi-sensor fusion system is applied to the measurement of slug flow in gas/liquid two-phase flow. V-cone meter, correlation technology, cross-section system, and time fusion are adopted in this fusion method. Cross-section sytem is good at the flow regime recognition and cross-section void fraction calculation, while the V-cone meter with its differential pressure model does well in the flow rate measurement, they are complementary to each other. After time fusion, the measured data is cut into alternate combination of gas plug and liquid plug, different model are applied to them for V-cone meter to calculate the mass flow rate. The primary experimental result shows this method based on multi-sensor fusion is acceptable.

In this paper, an adaptive weight particle swarm optimization is proposed for multi-objective optimization. And it is applied to rolling schedules multi-objective optimization of tandem cold rolling. According to the demands of actual rolling schedules designing, power distribution, rolling energy consumption and slip rate are selected as objective functions. Then the multi-objective model of rolling schedules is established. The proposed algorithm is applied to rolling schedules optimization of tandem cold rolling. The result shows that the proposed method decreases the values of three objective functions simultaneously compared to actual rolling schedules. Furthermore the proposed algorithm has faster convergence speed than the adaptive weight approach GA.

This paper is concerned with the estimation of the domain of attraction for a class of linear continuous-time systems subject to both interval time-varying delay and actuator saturation. A new type of delay-range-dependent condition is firstly proposed using the free-weighting matrix technique to derive a tighter upper bound on the derivative of a Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional. Based on it, a state feedback controller is then designed with the solution of a set of linear matrix inequalities. An optimization problem with LMI constraints is formulated in order to find an initial set as large as possible to obtain a less conservative estimate of the domain of attraction for such systems. An example is carried out to illustrate the theoretical results.

In this paper, to further relax the restriction on the higher order nonlinearity in [7], a stable multiple model adaptive control (SMMAC) method is developed. First a new robust adaptive controller is designed, which can guarantee the stability of the closed-loop system. Then to improve the system performance, the SMMAC method is presented by switching between the robust adaptive controller and a conventional neural network (NN) adaptive controller. Theory analysis and simulation results are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

To deal with the variation of production operation of the mineral processing plant, the data-mining based feedback regulation strategy is proposed to compensate the open loop steady state setting of the production unit at the plant-wide level. Rough set and increment association rule learning are used for the feedback regulation rule extraction from the historical operation data. To realize the feedback compensator two steps are carried out: (1) Determining the variables to be compensated based on rough set, (2) Mining the compensation rules through the increment association rule learning and rough set. The efficiency of the proposed strategy is proven by the experiments.

A numerical boundary integral method for cross-sectional distribution of gas/water two phase flows

A clearer understanding of two-phase flows requires getting the distribution of gas/water two-phase flows non-invasively. A numerical method to get the cross-sectional distribution of gas/water two-phase flows, via acquiring the common boundary of the two domains, is presented. This approach is based on the boundary integral equations reduced from Green's formula and their derivatives, considering that the gas phase is isolating and the conductivity of water phase is known. The forward problem is solved by boundary element method, which shows considerable accuracy but much smaller matrix size compared with finite element method. The boundary integral equations with non-smooth boundaries are discreted, and their Frechet derivatives are linearized. An iterative method is adopted, and the initial guess is estimated with the aid of the Linear Back Projection Algorithm for electrical resistance tomography. Numerical results show that the method can locate the gas bubbles and determine their shape effectively. Residual error is defined to investigate the convergence processes. In the anterior steps, the processes converge more quickly for fewer elements; while in the posterior steps more mesh elements are needed to get better results. Element increment contributes to decrease the final residual errors, but it tends to be faint when the number of elements is considerably large.

Comparison of differential pressure model based on flow regime for gas/liquid two-phase flow

Gas/liquid two-phase flow in horizontal pipe is very common in many industry processes, because of the complexity and variability, the real-time parameter measurement of two-phase flow, such as the measurement of flow regime and flow rate, becomes a difficult issue in the field of engineering and science. The flow regime recognition plays a fundamental role in gas/liquid two-phase flow measurement, other parameters of two-phase flow can be measured more easily and correctly based on the correct flow regime recognition result. A multi-sensor system is introduced to make the flow regime recognition and the mass flow rate measurement. The fusion system is consisted of temperature sensor, pressure sensor, cross-section information system and v-cone flow meter. After the flow regime recognition by cross-section information system, comparison of four typical differential pressure (DP) models is discussed based on the DP signal of v-cone flow meter. Eventually, an optimum DP model has been chosen for each flow regime. The experiment result of mass flow rate measurement shows it is efficient to classify the DP models by flow regime.
