Pathological myopia (PM) is the leading ocular disease for impaired vision worldwide. Clinically, the characteristic of pathology distribution in PM is global-local on the fundus image, which plays a significant role in assisting clinicians in diagnosing PM. However, most existing deep neural networks focused on designing complex architectures but rarely explored the pathology distribution prior of PM. To tackle this issue, we propose an efficient pyramid channel attention (EPCA) module, which fully leverages the potential of the clinical pathology prior of PM with pyramid pooling and multi-scale context fusion. Then, we construct EPCA-Net for automatic PM recognition based on fundus images by stacking a sequence of EPCA modules. Moreover, motivated by the recent pretraining-and-finetuning paradigm, we attempt to adapt pre-trained natural image models for PM recognition by freezing them and treating the EPCA and other attention modules as adapters. In addition, we construct a PM recognition benchmark termed PM-fundus by collecting fundus images of PM from publicly available datasets. The comprehensive experiments demonstrate the superiority of EPCA-Net over state-of-the-art methods in the PM recognition task. For example, EPCA-Net achieves 97.56% accuracy and outperforms ViT by 2.85% accuracy on the PM-fundus dataset. The results also show that our method based on the pretraining-and-finetuning paradigm achieves competitive performance through comparisons to part of previous methods based on traditional fine-tuning paradigm with fewer tunable parameters, which has the potential to leverage more natural image foundation models to address the PM recognition task in limited medical data regime. A vehicular network underpinned by the 3-tier vehicle-edge-cloud infrastructure enables an efficient and safer travel experience. The compute-intensive vehicular applications are often offloaded to the edge and/or cloud servers to enhance the applications' Quality of Services (QoS). The underlying edge-cloud servers consume a high among of energy. Consequently, it becomes crucial to optimizing energy consumption in the offloading process. Current energy-efficient offloading strategies in 2-tier vehicle-edge infrastructure, do not account for cloud computing energy consumption. In this paper, we address this void by proposing a machine learning-based energy-aware offloading algorithm, which optimizes the energy of the edge-cloud computing platform. The offloading strategy is enabled by the Support Vector Machine (SVM) regression model machine learning algorithm used for the edge-cloud power prediction. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is a promising approach in energy savings. © 2021 Elsevier B.V.. All rights reserved.

It is crucial to understand the glucose control within our ***/metabolic surgeries,including laparoscopic sleeve gastrec-tomy(LSG)and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass(RYGB),provide an avenue for exploring the potential key factors involved in maintaining glucose homeostasis since these surgeries have shown promising results in improving glycemic control among patients with severe type 2 diabetes(T2D).For the first time,a markedly altered population of serum proteins in patients after LSG was discovered and analyzed through *** A-IV(apoA-IV)was revealed to be increased dramatically in diabetic obese patients following LSG,and a similar effect was observed in patients after RYGB ***,recombinant apoA-IV protein treatment was proven to enhance insulin secretion in isolated human *** results showed that apoA-IV may play a crucial role in gly-cemic control in humans,potentially through enhancing insulin secretion in human ***-IV was further shown to enhance energy expenditure and improve glucose tolerance in diabetic rodents,through stimulating glucose-dependent insulin secretion in pancreaticβcells,partially via Gαs-coupled GPCR/cAMP(G protein-coupled receptor/cyclic adenosine monophosphate)***,T55-121,truncated peptide 55-121 of apoA-IV,was discovered to mediate the function of *** collective findings contribute to our understanding of the relationship between apoA-IV and glycemic control,highlighting its potential as a biomarker or therapeutic target in managing and improving glucose regulation.

Diabetes is one of the top 10 causes of death worldwide. Health professionals are aiming for machine learning models to support the prognosis of diabetes for better healthcare and to put in place an effective prevention plan. In this paper, we conduct a comparative analysis of the most used machine learning models in the literature to predict the prevalence of diabetes mellitus type 2. We evaluate the models in terms of accuracy, F-measure and execution time with and without feature selection using a real-life diabetes dataset. The detailed analysis is in the paper. © 2020 IEEE.

Subspace clustering is a classical technique that has been widely used for human motion segmentation and other related tasks. However, existing segmentation methods often cluster data without guidance from prior knowledge, resulting in unsatisfactory segmentation results. To this end, we propose a novel Consistency and Diversity induced human Motion Segmentation (CDMS) algorithm. Specifically, our model factorizes the source and target data into distinct multi-layer feature spaces, in which transfer subspace learning is conducted on different layers to capture multi-level information. A multi-mutual consistency learning strategy is carried out to reduce the domain gap between the source and target data. In this way, the domain-specific knowledge and domain-invariant properties can be explored simultaneously. Besides, a novel constraint based on the Hilbert Schmidt Independence Criterion (HSIC) is introduced to ensure the diversity of multi-level subspace representations, which enables the complementarity of multi-level representations to be explored to boost the transfer learning performance. Moreover, to preserve the temporal correlations, an enhanced graph regularizer is imposed on the learned representation coefficients and the multi-level representations of the source data. The proposed model can be efficiently solved using the Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM) algorithm. Extensive experimental results on public human motion datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our method against several state-of-the-art approaches. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. CDOpt: A Python Package for a Class of Riemannian Optimization

Optimization over an embedded submanifold defined by equality constraints c(x) = 0 has attracted much interest over the past few decades due to its wide applications in various areas, including computer vision, signal processing, numerical linear algebra, and deep learning. For solving such problems, many related optimization packages have been developed based on Riemannian optimization approaches, which rely on some basic geometrical materials of Riemannian manifolds, including Riemannian gradients, retractions, vector transports, etc. These geometrical materials can be challenging to determine in general. In fact, existing packages only accommodate a few well-known manifolds whose geometrical materials are more easily accessible. For other manifolds that are not contained in these packages, the users have to develop the geometric materials by themselves. In addition, it is not always tractable to adapt the advanced features from various state-of-the-art unconstrained optimization solvers to Riemannian optimization approaches. Here we introduce a user-friendly Python package, CDOpt (available at https: //***/ under BSD 3-clause license), for solving a class of Riemannian optimization problems. CDOpt is designed to complement existing Riemannian optimization packages by transforming Riemannian optimization problems into their unconstrained counterparts through the constraint dissolving approach. We prove that the when the penalty parameter in the constraint dissolving approach is sufficiently large, Riemannian optimization problems and their unconstrained counterparts are equivalent. Therefore, solving Riemannian optimization problems through CDOpt can directly benefit from various existing solvers and the rich expertise gained over the past few decades for unconstrained optimization. Channel Estimation for RIS-Aided Multi-User mmWave systems with Uniform Planar Arrays

In this paper, we adopt a three-stage based uplink channel estimation protocol with reduced pilot overhead for an reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-aided multi-user (MU) millimeter wave (mmWave) communication system, in which both the base station (BS) and the RIS are equipped with a uniform planar array (UPA). Specifically, in Stage I, the channel state information (CSI) of a typical user is estimated. To address the power leakage issue for the common angles-of-arrival (AoAs) estimation in this stage, we develop a low-complexity one-dimensional search method. In Stage II, a re-parameterized common BS-RIS channel is constructed with the estimated information from Stage I to estimate other users' CSI. In Stage III, only the rapidly varying channel gains need to re-estimated. Furthermore, the proposed method can be extended to multi-antenna UPA-type users, by decomposing the estimation of a multi-antenna channel with J scatterers into estimating J single-scatterer channels for a virtual single-antenna user. An orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP)-based method is proposed to estimate the angles-of-departure (AoDs) at the users. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm significantly achieves high channel estimation accuracy, which approaches the genie-aided upper bound in the high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regime. In software-defined networks(SDNs),controller placement is a critical factor in the design and planning for the future Internet of Things(IoT),telecommunication,and satellite communication *** research has concentrated largely on factors such as reliability,latency,controller capacity,propagation delay,and energy ***,SDNs are vulnerable to distributed denial of service(DDoS)attacks that interfere with legitimate use of the *** ever-increasing frequency of DDoS attacks has made it necessary to consider them in network design,especially in critical applications such as military,health care,and financial services networks requiring high *** propose a mathematical model for planning the deployment of SDN smart backup controllers(SBCs)to preserve service in the presence of DDoS *** a number of input parameters,our model has two distinct ***,it determines the optimal number of primary controllers to place at specific locations or nodes under normal operating ***,it recommends an optimal number of smart backup controllers for use with different levels of DDoS *** goal of the model is to improve resistance to DDoS attacks while optimizing the overall cost based on the *** simulated results demonstrate that the model is useful in planning for SDN reliability in the presence of DDoS attacks while managing the overall cost.

In a nonlocal game, two noncommunicating players cooperate to convince a referee that they possess a strategy that does not violate the rules of the game. Quantum strategies allow players to optimally win some games by performing joint measurements on a shared entangled state, but computing these strategies can be challenging. We present a variational quantum algorithm to compute quantum strategies for nonlocal games by encoding the rules of a nonlocal game into a Hamiltonian. We show how this algorithm can generate a short-depth optimal quantum strategy for a graph coloring game with a quantum advantage. This quantum strategy is then evaluated on fourteen different quantum hardware platforms to demonstrate its utility as a benchmark. Finally, we discuss potential sources of errors that can explain the observed decreased performance of the executed task and derive an expression for the number of samples required to accurately estimate the win rate in the presence of noise.
