Cosmology with fast radio bursts in the era of SKA

We present a forecast of the cosmological parameter estimation using fast radio bursts(FRBs)from the upcoming Square Kilometre Array(SKA),focusing on the issues of dark energy,the Hubble constant,and baryon *** simulate 105and 106localized FRBs from a 10-year SKA observation,and find that:(1)using 106FRB data alone can tightly constrain dark-energy equation of state parameters better than CMB+BAO+SNe,providing an independent cosmological probe to explore dark energy;(2)combining the FRB data with gravitational-wave standard siren data from 10-year observation with the Einstein Telescope,the Hubble constant can be constrained to a sub-percent level,serving as a powerful low-redshift probe;(3)using 106FRB data can constrain the baryon density?bh to a precision of~0.1%.Our results indicate that SKA-era FRBs will provide precise cosmological measurements to shed light on both dark energy and the missing baryon problem,and help resolve the Hubble tension.

Andrias davidianus(Chinese giant salamander,CGS)is the largest and oldest extant amphibian species in the world and is a source of prospective functional food in ***,the progress of functional peptides mining was slow due to lack of reference genome and protein sequence *** this study,we illustrated full-length transcriptome sequencing to interpret the proteome of CGS meat and obtain 10703 coding DNA *** functional annotation and amino acid composition analysis,we have discovered various genes related to signal transduction,and 16 genes related to *** have also found vast variety of functional peptides through protein coding sequence(CDS)analysis by comparing the data obtained with the functional peptide ***-Pro-Ile predicted by the CDS analysis was released from the CGS meat through enzymatic hydrolysis,suggesting that our approach is *** study suggested that transcriptomic analysis can be used as a reference to guide polypeptide mining in CGS meat,thereby providing a powerful mining strategy for the bioresources with unknown genomic and proteomic sequences.

Adam-family methods for nonsmooth optimization with convergence guarantees

In this paper, we present a comprehensive study on the convergence properties of Adam-family methods for nonsmooth optimization, especially in the training of nonsmooth neural networks. We introduce a novel two-timescale framework that adopts a two-timescale updating scheme, and prove its convergence properties under mild assumptions. Our proposed framework encompasses various popular Adam-family methods, providing convergence guarantees for these methods in training nonsmooth neural networks. Furthermore, we develop stochastic subgradient methods that incorporate gradient clipping techniques for training nonsmooth neural networks with heavy-tailed noise. Through our framework, we show that our proposed methods converge even when the evaluation noises are only assumed to be integrable. Extensive numerical experiments demonstrate the high efficiency and robustness of our proposed methods.

Due to the rapid propagation characteristic of the Coronavirus(COVID-19)disease,manual diagnostic methods cannot handle the large number of infected individuals to prevent the spread of ***,new automated diagnostic methods have been brought on board,particularly methods based on artificial intelligence using different medical data such as X-ray *** imaging,for example,produces several image types that can be processed and analyzed by machine and deep learning methods.X-ray imaging materials widely exist in most hospitals and health institutes since they are affordable compared to other imaging *** this paper,we propose a novel Convolutional Neural Network(CNN)model(COV2Net)that can detect COVID-19 virus by analyzing the X-ray images of suspected *** model is trained on a dataset containing thousands of X-ray images collected from different *** model was tested and evaluated on an independent *** order to approve the performance of the proposed model,three CNN models namely Mobile-Net,Residential Energy Services Network(Res-Net),and Visual Geometry Group 16(VGG-16)have been implemented using transfer learning *** experiment consists of a multi-label classification task based on X-ray images for normal patients,patients infected by COVID-19 virus and other patients infected with *** proposed model is empowered with Gradient-weighted Class Activation Mapping(Grad-CAM)and Grad-Cam++techniques for a visual explanation and methodology debugging *** finding results show that the proposed model COV2Net outperforms the state-of-the-art methods.

The fracture risk of patients with diabetes is higher than those of patients without diabetes due to hyperglycemia,usage of diabetes drugs,changes in insulin levels,and excretion,and this risk begins as early as *** factors including demographic data(such as age,height,weight,and gender),medical history(such as smoking,drinking,and menopause),and examination(such as bone mineral density,blood routine,and urine routine)may be related to bone metabolism in patients with ***,most of the existing methods are qualitative assessments and do not consider the interactions of the physiological factors of *** addition,the fracture risk of patients with diabetes and osteoporosis has not been further studied *** this paper,a hybrid model combining XGBoost with deep neural network is used to predict the fracture risk of patients with diabetes and osteoporosis,and investigate the effect of patients’physiological factors on fracture risk.A total of 147 raw input features are considered in our *** presented model is compared with several benchmarks based on various metrics to prove its ***,the top 18 influencing factors of fracture risks of patients with diabetes are determined.

The paper is devoted to developing scientific principles, methods, means, and information technology of model-oriented verification and evidence-based assessment using functional safety and cybersecurity cases for programmable systems of critical applications (PSCA). In particular, information and control systems important for the safety of nuclear power plants (NPPs), aerospace systems, railway domains, etc., developed using Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) and hardware platforms are reviewed. The goal is to ensure the guaranteed completeness and reliability of its functional safety and cybersecurity assessment by developing and implementing a set of formal and semi-formal methods and tools that consider defects of different nature - physical, design, trojans, and vulnerabilities that can be attacked and lead to a fatal system failure, which results in damaging the critical IT infrastructure. The methods shown are based on integrating algebraic, tabular, graph models, and case assessment methodology. The methods are implemented as appropriate technologies for evidence-based verification and evaluation of PSCA. For formal methods, a prototype of a translator of Very High-Speed Integrated Circuits Hardware Description Language (VHDL) code is developed into an algebra of behaviors. It provides evidence-based verification and a framework and tools to design reports on assessing the cybersecurity and functional safety of programmable systems. © 2023 IEEE.

The paper presumes to bring about the development of a new technique for the optimization of urban transport in the city of Oran, Algeria, using graph theory, reinforced by the Dijkstra algorithm, all in a bid to help the transportation network become more efficient within the city. It thus involves rigorous data collection and management of the lines of urban transport and bus stops which are geo-referenced. Clustering takes place between the stops taking into consideration the geography and the data in traffic using the DBSCAN method of clustering to simplify the network for further analysis. When the time comes to derive the shortest path within this structured network, the Dijkstra algorithm comes to play. In this case, it makes not only the route optimization process much easier but also brings down the travel times from one place to another, which has a big boost to overall system efficiency. The integration of these techniques represents a step change in urban transport planning and can provide key insights and tools to practitioners and decision-makers in this field that may find applications in other cities facing the same challenges. © 2024, The Authors. ChatGPT, an AI-based chatbot, offers coherent and useful replies based on analysis of large volumes of data. In this article, leading academics, scientists, distinguish researchers and engineers discuss the transformative effects of ChatGPT on modern education. This research discusses ChatGPT capabilities and its use in the education sector, identifies potential concerns and challenges. Our preliminary evaluation shows that ChatGPT perform differently in different subject areas including finance, coding, maths, and general public queries. While ChatGPT has the ability to help educators by creating instructional content, offering suggestions and acting as an online educator to learners by answering questions, transforming education through smartphones and IoT gadgets, and promoting group work, there are clear drawbacks in its use, such as the possibility of producing inaccurate or false data and circumventing duplicate content (plagiarism) detectors where originality is essential. The often reported "hallucinations" within GenerativeAI in general, and also relevant for ChatGPT, can render its use of limited benefit where accuracy is essential. What ChatGPT lacks is a stochastic measure to help provide sincere and sensitive communication with its users. Academic regulations and evaluation practices used in educational institutions need to be updated, should ChatGPT be used as a tool in education. To address the transformative effects of ChatGPT on the learning environment, educating teachers and students alike about its capabilities and limitations will be crucial. © 2023 The Authors
