Owing to the weaknesses of existing correlation detection methods in digital fingerprint matching, such as difficult to determine the threshold and low matching accuracy rate, a method proposed in digital fingerprint matching based on synergetic, which was applied in pattern recognition. Then, the experimental result indicated that the method proposed in the paper has a high matching rate. ©2009 IEEE.

There are some disadvantages existing in traditional artificial method of detecting road rut feature, such as consuming time, consuming energy, low accuracy and danger. In order to solve those problems listed above, a new method of detecting features automatically based on the laser image processing technology is proposed. The first step is to start pretreatments such as fuzzy compensating and enhancing the original images. Then adopting an improved watershed serial segmentation method, we can get binary segmentation images. Used multi-level filtering technology combined with statistical methods, the accurate road rut feature can be got. It has been proved by experiments that the detection method has high accuracy and stability. © 2009 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.

In this paper, a method of automatic pavement breakage extraction based on patching feature is presented for the requirement of pavement patching extraction with complex background on road surface. The median filter is adopted in the process of preprocessing, with improved noise attenuation and excellent edge response. After median filter, an algorithm based on patching feature space is incorporated into the process of segmentation. The comparison of various segmentation algorithms indicate that our approach can provide a better segmentation. A series of experiments have been performed to test the proposed algorithm. It is proven that the proposed automatic extraction method is advanced and effective. © 2009 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.

Owing to the effect of the high temperature, complex illumination and bad-imaging environment, there are a lot of difficulties in the target of character detection algorithm in complex background. For the requirement of identification and trace of steel billet in the procedure of manufacture and management, the ends of steel billets are all printed a series of digital characters before they are transported to furnace. Owing to the high temperature and the complicated-imaging background, the character detection of digital characters at ends of steel billets is more difficult than general character detection. For the former methods dissatisfied with practical demands, a method using an improved OTSU algorithm and extracted the target character by projection in this paper. © 2009 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.

The restoration of rotational motion blurred image involves a lot of interpolations operators in rectangular-to-polar transformation and its inversion of polar-to-rectangular. The technique of interpolation determines the quality of restoration and computational complexity. In this paper, we incorporate orthogonal chebyshev polynomials interpolations into the processing of restoration of rotational motion blurred image, in which the space-variant blurs are decomposed into a series of space-invariant blurs along the blurring paths, and the blurred gray-values of the discrete pixels of the blurring paths are calculated by using of orthogonal chebyshev polynomials' interpolations and the space-variant blurs can be removed along the blurring paths in the polar system. At same way, we use orthogonal chebyshev polynomials' interpolations to perform polar-to-rectangular transformation to put the restored image back to its original rectangular format. In order to overcome the interference of noise, an optimization restoration algorithm based on regularizations is presented, in which non-negative and edge-preserving smoothing are incorporated into the process of restoration. A series of experiments have been performed to test the proposed interpolation method, which show that the proposed interpolations are effective to preserve edges. © 2009 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.

A new method to detect laser parameter is proposed in this paper. The improved Michelson Interferometer is used as experiment system to detect parameter. In the proposed detection method, the interference images in variant atmosphere visibility by regulating the polarizer in the system simulate the transmissibility of laser. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme can simulate laser parameter in true atmosphere environment and has good application value. © 2009 SPIE.

We propose an automatic method for the segmentation of the brain structures in three dimensional (3D) Magnetic Resonance images (MRI). The proposed method consists of two stages. In the first stage, we represent the shape of the structure using Geometric Moment Invariants (GMIs) in 8 scales. For each scale, an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is designed to approximate the signed distance function of a desired structure. The GMIs along with the voxel intensities and coordinates are used as the input features of the ANN and the signed distance function as its output. In the second stage, we combine the outputs of the ANNs of the first stage and design another ANN to classify the image voxels into two classes, inside or outside of the structure. We introduce a fast method for moment calculations. The proposed method is applied to the segmentation of caudate, putamen, and thalamus in MRI where it has outperformed other methods in the literature. © 2009 Springer Berlin Heidelberg.

Because of noise and clutter, the infrared target detection even becomes more difficult. In this paper, we present an automatic seed selection method based on an improved mountain cluster algorithm to be employed in infrared target segmentation. The original image was projected to x and y coordination firstly. Then the modified mountain clustering algorithm is employed on the projection data to obtain the cluster center which is applied as the seed point for region growing. This approach has been performed on a field infrared image. The experimental results show that the proposed method can provide satisfactory segmentation result. © 2009 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.
