Isoforms refer to different mRNA molecules transcribed from the same gene, which can be translated into proteins with varying structures and functions. Predicting the functions of isoforms is an essential topic in bioinformatics as it can provide valuable insights into the intricate mechanisms of gene regulation and biological processes. Conventionally, gene function labels are standardized in Gene Ontology (GO) terms. However, traditional methods for predicting isoform function are largely limited by the absence of isoform-specific labels, sparse annotations, and the vast number of GO terms. To address these issues, we propose HANIso, a deep learning-based method for isoform function prediction. HANIso leverages a pretrained protein language model to extract features from protein sequences. It also integrates heterogeneous information, such as isoform sequence features, GO annotations, and isoform interaction data, using a Heterogeneous Graph Attention Network (HAN). This allows the model to learn the importance of different sources of information and their semantic relationships through the attention mechanism. Our method can predict function labels at both the gene level and isoform level. We conduct experiments on two species datasets, and the results demonstrate that our method outperforms existing methods on both AUROC and AUPRC. HANIso has the potential to overcome the limitations of traditional methods and provide a more accurate and comprehensive understanding of isoform function.

In recent decades, various surrogate-assisted evolutionary algorithms (SAEAs) have been proposed to solve computationally expensive multiobjective optimization problems (EMOPs). Nevertheless, designing an SAEA to handle high-dimensional EMOPs and balance convergence, diversity, and computational complexity remains challenging. Here, we propose a two-phase SAEA (TP-SAEA), which follows the idea of convergence first and diversity second, for solving high-dimensional EMOPs. In Phase I, a surrogate-assisted problem reformulation method is proposed to fast-track the Pareto optimal set in association with some reference solutions. Specifically, the high-dimensional EMOP is reformulated into an expensive single-objective one with low-dimensional decision space. Then, the surrogate-assisted optimization is utilized to obtain well-converged solutions. In Phase II, the high-dimensional EMOP is decomposed into two subproblems to explore subregions of the decision space that can effectively promote the diversity of the solutions. The two subproblems are optimized independently via surrogate-assisted optimization, aiming to push the population towards different regions of the Pareto optimal front. Experiments are conducted on EMOPs with 100 to 500 decision variables compared with four state-of-the-art SAEAs. The proposed TP-SAEA obtains well-converged and diverse solutions with only 509 real function evaluations. Generating Natural Language adversarial examples through an improved beam search algorithm

The research of adversarial attacks in the text domain attracts many interests in the last few years, and many methods with a high attack success rate have been proposed. However, these attack methods are inefficient as they require lots of queries for the victim model when crafting text adversarial examples. In this paper, a novel attack model is proposed, its attack success rate surpasses the benchmark attack methods, but more importantly, its attack efficiency is much higher than the benchmark attack methods. The novel method is empirically evaluated by attacking WordCNN, LSTM, BiLSTM, and BERT on four benchmark datasets. For instance, it achieves a 100% attack success rate higher than the state-of-the-art method when attacking BERT and BiLSTM on IMDB, but the number of queries for the victim models only is 1/4 and 1/6.5 of the state-of-the-art method, respectively. CondNet: Conditional classifier for scene segmentation

—The fully convolutional network (FCN) has achieved tremendous success in dense visual recognition tasks, such as scene segmentation. The last layer of FCN is typically a global classifier (1×1 convolution) to recognize each pixel to a semantic label. We empirically show that this global classifier, ignoring the intra-class distinction, may lead to sub-optimal results. In this work, we present a conditional classifier to replace the traditional global classifier, where the kernels of the classifier are generated dynamically conditioned on the input. The main advantages of the new classifier consist of: (i) it attends on the intra-class distinction, leading to stronger dense recognition capability;(ii) the conditional classifier is simple and flexible to be integrated into almost arbitrary FCN architectures to improve the prediction. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed classifier performs favourably against the traditional classifier on the FCN architecture. The framework equipped with the conditional classifier (called CondNet) achieves new state-of-the-art performances on two datasets. The code and models are available at https://***/CondNet. In this paper, we consider the problem of sampleddata active anti-disturbance control design for multi-rate control system subject to delayed sampled-data output. The plant considered in this paper is equipped with a slow-rate sensor and a fastrate actuator. In the presence of non-vanishing disturbance, a new output predictor-based observer is first proposed by only using the delayed sampled-data output, so as to effectively estimate system state and disturbance in the inter-sample time interval.A new sampled-data controller that updates at a fast-rate is then designed with the help of active anti-disturbance *** to prediction and active anti-disturbance techniques, the proposed sampled-data control method can effectively reject the influence of non-vanishing disturbance despite slow-rate sampling and delay of sensor. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed control method is demonstrated via simulation results of a practical example of the visual servoing control for an inertially stabilized platform.

Detecting safety clothing and helmets is paramount for ensuring the safety of construction workers. However, the development of deep learning models in this domain has been impeded by the scarcity of high-quality datasets. In this study, we construct a large, complex, and realistic safety clothing and helmet detection (SFCHD) dataset. SFCHD is derived from two authentic chemical plants, comprising 12,373 images, 7 categories, and 50,552 annotations. We partition the SFCHD dataset into training and testing sets with a ratio of 4:1 and validate its utility by applying several classic object detection algorithms. Furthermore, drawing inspiration from spatial and channel attention mechanisms, we design a spatial and channel attention-based low-light enhancement (SCALE) module. SCALE is a plug-and-play component with a high degree of flexibility. Extensive evaluations of the SCALE module on both the ExDark and SFCHD datasets have empirically demonstrated its efficacy in enhancing the performance of detectors under low-light conditions. Dentists judge the quality of root canal therapy for each patient very time-consuming, and inefficient, lack of quantitative evaluation criteria, easy to cause judgment errors. At the same time, the traditional method of extracting the root canal image features based on experience is difficult to accurately extract the filling area of the root canal and the tooth area where it is located, resulting in low accuracy of root canal target segmentation, and thus affecting the accuracy of root canal treatment quality evaluation. In this paper, for the real root canal treatment images of patients, the CenterNet network was used to detect the root canal target of root canal images. Then, according to the test results, the U-Net full convolution neural network was used to segment the root canal filling region and its tooth region. Finally, the segmented images were quantitatively evaluated according to the professional evaluation index of doctors. The experimental results show that the coincidence rate between the evaluation results of this method and the evaluation results of professional doctors is 83.3 %, which can better complete the quality evaluation of root canal therapy for patients, effectively improve the work efficiency of doctors, and has reference significance for the application of artificial intelligence in medical field.

Non-local operation is widely explored to model the long-range dependencies. However, the redundant computation in this operation leads to a prohibitive complexity. In this paper, we present a Representative Graph (RepGraph) layer to dynamically sample a few representative features, which dramatically reduces redundancy. Instead of propagating the messages from all positions, our RepGraph layer computes the response of one node merely with a few representative nodes. The locations of representative nodes come from a learned spatial offset matrix. The RepGraph layer is flexible to integrate into many visual architectures and combine with other operations. With the application of semantic segmentation, without any bells and whistles, our RepGraph network can compete or perform favourably against the state-of-the-art methods on three challenging benchmarks: ADE20K, Cityscapes, and PASCAL-Context datasets. In the task of object detection, our RepGraph layer can also improve the performance on the COCO dataset compared to the non-local operation. The number of leaves at a given time is important to characterize plant growth and *** this work,we developed a high-throughput method to count the number of leaves by detecting leaf tips in RGB *** digital plant phenotyping platform was used to simulate a large and diverse dataset of RGB images and corresponding leaf tip labels of wheat plants at seedling stages(150,000 images with over 2 million labels).The realism of the images was then improved using domain adaptation methods before training deep learning *** results demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method evaluated on a diverse test dataset,collecting measurements from 5 countries obtained under different environments,growth stages,and lighting conditions with different cameras(450 images with over 2,162 labels).Among the 6 combinations of deep learning models and domain adaptation techniques,the Faster-RCNN model with cycle-consistent generative adversarial network adaptation technique provided the best performance(R^(2)=0.94,root mean square error=8.7).Complementary studies show that it is essential to simulate images with sufficient realism(background,leaf texture,and lighting conditions)before applying domain adaptation ***,the spatial resolution should be better than 0.6 mm per pixel to identify leaf *** method is claimed to be self-supervised since no manual labeling is required for model *** self-supervised phenotyping approach developed here offers great potential for addressing a wide range of plant phenotyping *** trained networks are available at https://***/YinglunLi/Wheat-leaf-tip-detection.

Byzantine-Resilient Multi-Agent Distributed Exact Optimization with Less Data

This paper studies the distributed multi-agent resilient optimization problem under the f-total Byzantine attacks. Compared with the previous work on Byzantine-resilient multi-agent exact optimization problems, we do not require the communication topology to be fully connected. Under the redundancy of cost functions, we propose the distributed comparative gradient elimination resilient optimization algorithm based on the traditional assumptions on strongly convex global costs and Lipschitz continuous gradients. Under this algorithm, we successfully prove that if the number of in-neighbors of each normal agent is greater than some constant and the parameter f satisfies certain conditions, all normal agents' local estimations of the global variable will finally reach consensus and converge to the optimized solution.
